Hi all-
Sorry to have been absent the last several days, we had some stress here. Thankfully all is well, but my vacation relaxation bank was pretty well wiped out. It feels like the cruise was months ago.
DD's been sick since we got back with a bad sinus infection, but I got her off to FCAT each morning and then home for the afternoons. DH was traveling in Las Vegas for work the whole week. I was fighting a cold, not feeling awful, but a little run-down. Was scheduled to sub for the first time Friday. Meticulously got ready the night before, went to bed early.
Friday morning, the phone rings at 6:20am, never a good thing. It's my Dmom. Ddad is on his way to the hospital by ambulance. She found him in the kitchen, thinks he had a heart attack. Dad had had a very bad cold also since we got back. I didn't think a heart attack was a likely scenario, but was of course concerned. (Dad has an unusual cardiac condition, but completely asymptomatic. He's healthy as a horse--and very well-monitored.)
I got DD on the bus and headed to the hospital. Good news, no heart attack or stroke. Bad news, no one knows what happened. Dad isn't convinced he passed out. If so, just for a fraction of a second. He remembers being dizzy in the kitchen and then hitting the ground. They admit him for observation overnight with plans to release Saturday. He has another dizzy, sweaty spell when the physcial therapist came to evaluate him. No release Saturday. Lots of cardiac tests. They put him on anitibiotics for the cold. (It was really bad and DD and one Dnephew were both on antibiotics.)
I start thinking and researching. DH is a fainter. If he gets really run-down, he's going to faint. I suspected and hoped that was going on with Dad. No one had looked at his ears (go figure), but ear infections/viruses can cause dizziness/vertigo/fainting. Saturday, Ddad looked and felt better. Went for more tests. Sunday morning, they release him--just like that! Without any test results!! He continued to look/feel better though and was happy to be home. We all thought that the antibiotic was definitely helping.
Today, he went to his cardiologist to review test results. Everything looks good. Impossible to tell what caused the dizziness/faint. Dr's best guess is a vaso-vagal syncopic episode (what Pat has) or labyrithitis (ear disturbance from the cold). (That Internet medical degree is a big help for me!) He doesn't expect it to happen again. Told Dad to not get run down, stay hydrated--and if he feels that way again, get on the floor. Gave him a Rx for physical therapy (his back is really sore from the fall to the hard tile floor). End of chapter, we hope!
It was a scary, stressful few days. Pat finally gets home late Saturday night and has a bad cold himself. Typical man (sorry guys), he takes to bed for the last two days, groaning about how he can't go on like this much longer. I'm betting by Thursday golf he'll be better.
So, now I need a new cruise to get back that relaxed feeling. I lost my 3 cruise pounds, so I'm ready to go back to non-stop eating. I actually started looking last night for FL resident discounts, but nothing on a 7-night. Glad to see lots of you have your return plans already! (We'll have to see if next year brings me a FT teaching job before booking anything during school.)
Thanks for listening to me babble. I still haven't gotten my photos off of my camera yet... I will post them when I do.
Happy Monday and St. Patrick's Day to all!
