The only thing more difficult than getting on this Alaska cruise will be getting my DM from Georgia to Vancouver BC without getting on a plane :scared1:.

She only travels by train. How many days does it take to drive across the USA?

Tracy Arm Fjord with Sawyer Glacier at the end is beautiful. I'll see if I can post a pic later when DH comes home.

Pretty cool to see ice floating in the water.

In Juneau, it's fairly easy to get a bus to Mendenhall Glacier.

Wendy we were there in 2006 with Princess. We got fairly close and did hear on calfing not that we saw anything. I have heard from recent visitors that it has receded quit a bit.

This is in the Castaway Cay Newsletter as well:

At the D23 Expo on September 11, we
unveiled the lobby character for the all-new
Disney Dream…Admiral Donald Duck!
You’ll find him sitting in the middle of the
lobby, being the focal point of all who visit
the new ship (Just like Donald wants it!).
The all-new Disney Dream, scheduled
to set sail in early 2011, will be unveiled
live in New York City on October 29!
Beginning at 4:15 p.m. EST
, you can
watch the streaming video of the unveil and
be part of the action at disneycruise.com.

Where are the prices for the PC cruise, am I missing something or are they not released until booking on 9/28? Please let me know if they are posted anywhere, I would love to have some time to digest the price options before its time to book if possible...

The pics from Alaska cruises are beautiful. Thanks for posting them.
:cheer2::cheer2:

Why do you need a retractable roof? It's not 20 degrees and snowing year round in Alaska!

It may not be snowing, but it can be rainy and cold. My cousin just returned from a 14 day Alaska cruise. She said it rained and was in the 60s everyday.

As long as you book directly through DCL on 9/28, they can just apply the onboard booking discount and credit. You don't have to cancel and rebook. You keep you cabin and your dining time. We've done this several times. If you later want to transfer it to a TA, you can.

Thanks for the clarification.

If I have an existing cruise for 2010 with a 10% discount and OBC, am I correct in thinking I have to call on Sept 28th to transfer my cruise to 2011 and get the discount too? I will not be able to do it on-line?

I don't know if I can trust a travel agent to be quick enough to do this for me.

Yes, just call and transfer the reservation!
I never use a TA - I like to keep control of my own reservation!

What CC newsletter!!!? You would think after 12 cruises we would be getting this by now. GAH!!!!

So -- in terms of weather, what would be the BEST time to sail to Alaska?

The weather is very unpredictable in Alaska but you would be surprised at how warm it can be. We went the first part of July and it was 60-70sF but they said the week before was close to 90sF. July and August would have a better chance of warmer weather than May-June-September.

Exactly! :thumbsup2

Anyone know when the drydock is scheduled for in Oct 2010??
We're supposed to sail on her for the 1st time on Oct. 24th and may be bringing the in-lawas along too! It would be neat to be on her right after she goes through drydock!

My wife got all excited when I told her the news and started talking about possibly combining the Alaska cruise with the Vancouver to LA cruise. I thgouth they would be back to back, but the last Alaka cruise is Aug 30 and the Vancouver to LA cruise is Sep 20. Does anyone know what the Wonder will be doing in between? Dry dock maybe?

It's online at the DCL website, when you've logged on. On the left side there's tabs like: Member benifits; My Cruises; Compass Newsletter ( it's under that one.)

Sorry all, I'm a little sad by this announcement. We were really looking forward to another Western or maybe a Southern Caribbean cruise the summer of 2011. Was there any mention of when the schedule will be out for Dreams?

Alaska would be nice, but we live near PC and with a new ship in 2011, it would be impossible to justify the added expense of having to travel across the country. From the posted info, looks like the Dream will be doing the 3/4 day cruises which is also good for us as that should make checking out the new ship a little more affordable! ;)

So are these new California based Itineraries to Vancouver the result of the Wonder being moved to LA when the new ships are done? I know that may seem like a silly question, but I wasn't clear if these new Vancouver destinations are...permanent.

My wife is so excited about the Alaska Cruise, but there are so many choices now. We have been dying to get on another Disney Cruise since our first for our Honeymoon but money is so tight. Still maybe we can book now and pay slowly.

We live in the Bay Area. I want to see that ship in SF! Too bad we can't get on in SF. But being on that cruise and having it stop by home would be so weird but cool.

Ask Caroline, Patsy. She was going to drive to CA for the PC EB repo last year.
