The pin has nothing to do with the MagicBands unfortunately (or fortunately? depending on your opinion). On my trip in April I had to create a pin for my KTTW card. It's just an added security measure.

Interesting. Thanks! I didn't recall being prompted for a PIN in previous years, but either I didn't think much about it before or just plain forgot. :scratchin

Anyone down Aug 25th - 31st and not planning on using their planet Hollywood voucher I would love to use it. I didn't do a package this year just room only with AAA tickets so I miss out on the voucher.

This question was finally posed to me yesterday by my 5 year old! I came through with a big "I don't know... but I'll try to find out!" :confused3 So I'm looking to my August friends for help...what did you tell your kids when they were still young enough to believe but smart enough to figure out that something was up??! Need help because there's NO WAY I'm letting the magic die even a little bit yet!:wizard:

When my kids were younger and asked, I told them the characters weren't allowed to talk to strangers.

QOTD! KtP had a wait time of over 3 hours for Test Track yesterday! What is the longest you would wait for your favorite ride?

Typically we'll wait 20 to 30 mins. However, last year for Soarin' even with a FP it was over an hour.

20 minutes. 25 max. That's more my kids' limit than my limit, but I don't see the point of waiting in long lines when you could be doing other things. I've also only gone during low season, so we'll see how many rides we get to ride next month!

On another note, I'm thinking of starting my kids on pin trading. Thoughts? I would have started them last trip, but I didn't know we'd be back so soon! Now with this trip and a cruise coming up, I thought it might be a good pastime for them.

DD10 has been pin trading since her first trip at 3. She mostly collects. She has a hard time parting with any of her pins. I will order pins from Disney store for her birthday and christmas as well. I like the pins because they're small, so collecting doesn't take up a lot of space. Otherwise we'd end up with far too many stuffed animals. :)

OMG how will we do this with toddlers?!?! This is our first line waiting trip!!

We make friends with families around us in line. We have met some really wonderful people from all over the world. We actually had so much fun with a family one time, we met them the next day too.

I am really stressed about this whole FP+ thing. I know it's likely we won't be affected this trip but I'm afraid of what it will do to any future trips. I work in education so we're likely to always go in the summers even when we're going childless. I can't imagine having only 3-4 FPs in the MK. I can live with it for the other parks but not for MK. I'm starting to feel like this might be our last trip and that's just adding so much stress to me about this trip. I just can't believe that Disney is moving forward with something that so many people have expressed dislike for, it just doesn't make sense.

Is anyone else worried about this stuff... should I just unfollow all the threads about it and wipe it from my memory for now?

There just doen't seem to be enough info out there yet. I don't think there is anything to worry about. I'm hoping that for those who would like to do a bit more planning there will be an extra aid in FP+, and it will certailnly be easier than digging cards out. I lost my photopass on the last day of a 10 day trip one time. Luckily I had written the number down, but we won't have to worry about that anymore with the bands. Don't be nervous. :goodvibes

We were asked to create a pin. I thought it would be to use our KTTWC.

Did they ever ask us for a PIN for KTTW cards before? I don't remember having to answer that question in previous years.... :confused3

The pin has nothing to do with the MagicBands unfortunately (or fortunately? depending on your opinion). On my trip in April I had to create a pin for my KTTW card. It's just an added security measure.

I thought it had to do with the fact that with RFID capability, people were concerned about their cards being near a reader and accidentally picked up, so they added the PIN as a second measure. I'm not sure how much validity there is to that theory though. Either way, the PIN was added when the KTTW cards went RFID.

Good to know. I didn't think the PIN was always there, but I wasn't sure.

Regarding using a PIN as a security measure, I had the same thought about accidental purchases. I know RFID technology is generally coded to work within a certain distance between the reader and the chip (so, for example, tap-to-pay technologies are generally activated with a much shorter distance to prevent walk-by activation). However, I just recently experienced this myself when I was at the library using self-checkout. The book you are checking out is only supposed to be added to your account when it is actively laid down on the square. But somehow, my account picked up a book that a boy was holding while standing next to my station. Thank goodness I noticed it popped up in my account, otherwise, I would have been extremely shocked to be billed for an overdue Pokemon book! When I went to the customer service desk to get them to remove it from my account, they were shocked, as well as the family that was checking out next to me (who had to be notified to rescan it again into their account). Just makes you think!

Yeah, we didn't have RFID KTTW cards last November when we went so the PIN thing was a first for us too. It really is a security measure to ensure that your card doesn't get used by anyone who isn't supposed to have it. Originally they wanted no PIN which would encourage people to spend more money, but I think the focus groups and security folks prevailed in that one.

I'm a tech guy so I like the use of tap to pay and other RFID things. It's an incredibly flexible technology. That's what they use at BOG to deliver your lunch to you with the rose. Rumor has it that when you have the MagicBands you won't need the rose anymore because your meal will be coded to your band and then the sensor in the table will tell the servers where you are. :thumbsup2

I don't know this is my first grown up trip and first trip in property lol. On the cruise you did not need a PIN number.

I had to use a pin on my last trip for sure (February). It was for the KTTW cards and I had to use my pin when charging something to my card.

5 weeks from today we'll be at DHS. :cool1: It's getting closer but still seems crazy far away for some reason. :confused3

My wife picked up a couple of shirts over the weekend from Old Navy and some blank ones to do some crafts with.

No Mickey Mail yet, but I'm expecting it today. Don't think it will have MagicBands in it though. Still a lot of fun to get.

I've been checking the website somewhat obsessively lately and it does seem like they've fixed a lot of the bugs that were in it. All of my reservations are showing up properly and fast. The links for FP+ and MagicBands don't really give you any info, but they work consistently. Hopefully it keeps up.

Started to go over our plans for the trip with our traveling companion this past weekend and that's got me a little nervous. Of course we had made these plans before she decided to join us and while she hasn't objected to anything I'm a little nervous that her ideas may conflict with our ideas and cause drama. She hasn't chimed in on anything up until this point but I'm just hoping there isn't something she wants to do that will cause conflict. Going to have to get together with her soon, maybe this week, and talk about the plans.

I hear you. Traveling with others always seems like a good idea and like it will be fun but then it turns out the other people have opinions lol.

I know right? Doesn't everyone know that nobody does Disney better than me and my family? :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: How dare someone want to do something that I don't want to do or that conflicts with my plans? :lmao: The nerve!

Those are my dates, and I can send you my voucher when it arrives, we never use it. (:

I believe it has names on it like the rest of the vouchers, so they may verify that information. I don't think I've had them verify my name before (that I remember), but I have had them converse with me about where we were staying and verify the date of redemption in relation to the package dates that are listed on the ticket.

I need to go to Old navy and see what I can find for DH and I. The kids are already set for our trip.

I hope I don't have any conflicts as well now that my SIL and BIL decided to join us. I have so many plans that it would really bumb me out if they started drama.

2 weeks 2 weeks 2 weeks!!!!

DH almost ruined the whole surprise yesterday though when he spilled that we were going on vacation. (The kids weren't even aware of that part yet, let alone whe we're going or for how long)
