ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

Thanks everyone. My obsession over this is truly sickening. Right now I have 2 breakfasts- CM and Hollywood & Vine and Biergarten dinner for buffets and Yak & Yeti lunch and BOG dinner. I thought the table service w little ones would be overkill but then I kept adding more of them figuring we would need the break/something different. There are 2 days of no table service so I don't want to worry about 'wasting' those credits by not having an ADR and having to use them as QS credits. We are going to have to buy or have our own groceries for breakfast the other days anyway bc a snack won't cut it as a meal for us. We eat three meals a day lol. I can see snacks being mickey bars or other treats which is why dessert at every meal is not appealing- would rather have apps. I guess I am leaning on not adding it this trip and keeping track of expenses to see how we did compared to dining plan. Are you sick of this yet????

Oh, I am with you!! Despite KNOWING the DDP won't save us money, and despite saying over and over and over again that I know we will do better OOP and that I don't want to be tied to a dessert over an appetizer, I still get these fleeting moments of, hmmmm, I wonder....

Oh, and I can't even add it this trip with the package we have. And I'm still wondering. :rotfl2: So I'd say you are perfectly normal :rotfl:.

Time for a happy dance....

DW and I are registered for the Tinkerbell 1/2 marathon pixiedust: and the Neverland 5k at Disneyland in January!!!!!!!

I am SOOOOOOOOOOOOO excited!!! I've never been to DL, and only to CA once. I feel like I need to learn all new things to head over to the other coast!

:cool1: Super awesome!!! :cool1:

California is high on my bucket list. I can wait to visit there one day.

As for being registered for the marathons.....I bow to all runners :worship: . You are better women than I. Let's just say that I'm not the most athletic soul on earth :rolleyes2 . I happen to very much love that old saying "I'm in shape....round is a shape :) ".

You will have tons of fun planning this new adventure. Are you taking the boys or will this be a couples trip for you and the wife?

Just heard about this thread on the Resort Boards Poly thread! We go EVERY Aug. and are headed to the Poly 7/31-8/8. Can't wait!!!

Ha! I keep wanting it to be a "deal" but for us I don't think it really will be! When I do the paper and pencil my husband and I pay about half oop that we would on the dining plan. Even with the expensive character meals I think oop we will still spend less on those days. Am I doing this wrong???

See... And I have gone over this time and time again, and each time I do, I come up with the same thing... What I pay OOP is exactly the same as DDP, but with DDP I get desserts... So, even though the DDP isn't free this time around - I'd rather have the convenience of it + the desserts for the same price. :lovestruc

Have you seen this link before? It shows the daily cost of the different plans, as well as some examples of eating with and without the plan: http://www.wdwinfo.com/disney-dining-plan.htm.

Although I haven't priced out our own meals, we always go with the dining plan. Because I am budget conscious, if I didn't have the plan, my vacation would quickly become less of a vacation. Instead of enjoying the meals and drinks and desserts that are included, I would be forcing my family to order appetizers as meals, drink free water, and forego the dessert. Although there is nothing wrong with that approach, that is how we live our life on a day-to-day basis at home. When I'm at Disney, my family wants to eat at Disney without the food police (me) telling them what they can and cannot eat. So, although I still believe there are cost savings involved with getting the plan, even if those savings aren't realized, the shear convenience factor is worth it for me.

In the past, I know it was assumed that having the regular dining plan saves you approximately the amount of tips at your sit-down meals. Whether or not that is still true, the dining plan gives us freedom to choose meals and restaurants without looking at price. Furthermore, knowing everything is paid for up-front means a worry-free vacation for everyone!

You'll be fine at DL. A few things are in strange places. Winnie the Pooh is VERY different and they still have Toontown and it's VERY different than WDW's old Toontown, it's really cool. We LOVE DCA and spent more time there than DL...

I definitely agree with it being nice to have it paid for ahead of time. Nothing like post vacation credit card blues!!!

Yay! Congrats! :cheer2: I love Disneyland! I actually grew up going there, but haven't been in about 6 years since we moved east...well, since the military moved us. My husband likes WDW better though so it all works out, except that I've been very homesick lately for California! :sad1: Enjoy our planning and the races!

I agree with you as well its just nice to have it all paid for upfront and all you have to worry about is the tip! I'm not sure if we would save money out of pocket or not but we are going to eat at least two meals a day so might as well have them paid up front and done with. I think if it were just DH and I we might do out of pocket but with 3 girls it just easier to have it all worked out before.

You will have tons of fun planning this new adventure. Are you taking the boys or will this be a couples trip for you and the wife?

Lol...you could run! Believe me, if I can do it anyone can!

As of right now it looks like the boys won't be coming. That decision was harder to make than getting up at 6am to run nine miles the other day! I am still so torn, but the biggest issue is school, followed by expense (we are going to Rome in April and I'm crossing my fingers for a BB for August), followed by logistics. Both races start around 5 am, which means we will be getting up around 3:00 and I just think it will be a lot to worry about getting them settled somewhere and getting us to the starting line on time. There is a little part of me that is still thinking maybe my mom could fly out with them after school Friday and we can all head home Monday (MLK day). We plan to go out on Wednesday as the 5k is Friday morning and we will need to be at package pick up by Thursday afternoon.

So we shall see... But then I try to alleviate the guilt by realizing this is something we've been training for and working towards for a long time now, and I don't think it's a bad thing for them to realize that as adults we can have goals for ourselves that can be individually achieved and rewarded. Plus DS17 will be going to WDW for his class trip in March (add that to the expense list!) and the others will have senior trips in the future. And we are spending 10 days at Disney this August after just having done the Disney cruise....have I convinced anyone yet that I shouldn't feel guilty lol??

No lol. It's that Disney brainwashing that gets you every time!! I don't know if anyone remembers I ordered that limited edition AK t-shirt for DS15 back in April. DW ordered something from Disney.com the other day and I got the shipping confirmation email today. I just realized I never got that t-shirt! So I called customer service, long story short, the item sold out, and they never notified me OR credited back my Visa!! Somehow after 20 minutes on the phone I ended up with a $40 online GC instead of $37.88 credited back to my Visa. And I went along with it! As if I need to order anything from Disney right now lol.

D~

I think if you enjoy the desserts and prefer that over appetizers or something else, the DDP is great! I prefer to eat my desserts a little while after dinner or while wandering around, so OOP is better for that.

To be honest, the most painful part of paying OOP is buying the mugs! I will ask the boys if they even want them this trip, but if they say yes, which they probably will, I will buy them. DW will drink the $100 worth of coffee by the end of the week so it'll balance out ;).

You'll be fine at DL. A few things are in strange places. Winnie the Pooh is VERY different and they still have Toontown and it's VERY different than WDW's old Toontown, it's really cool. We LOVE DCA and spent more time there than DL...

I've heard that Toontown is better. And I didn't realize they had Pooh. I knew they still have Mr. Toad, so maybe that's why I thought there was no Pooh. I am actually very excite to ride Mr. Toad again - that is the WDW attraction I miss most!

So, have you stayed at the GC or DLH? I was leaning towards DLH, DW wants GC. And how many days would you suggest we do? Also, I'm debating a rental car...do you know if you have to pay for parking if you stay on property? I am making my list of questions to take to the DL boards on here, but it looks like I found an expert right here in August :).
