ª"˜˜ª¤.¸Team August 2013 Thread! (Part 2)¸.¤ª˜˜"ª&#9733

HOLD ON TO YOUR HATS FOR THIS ONE....

I can't even believe I am typing this.. but we just cancelled our August trip:scared1:

It's a little sad. But not really. A) Because we are going December 13th (the kids don't know).
and
B) We are going to get our puppy!!

We've had our name and deposit in for a Labrador Retriever puppy from a very reputable breeder for months. We were set to get our dog in January. We've wanted a dog for a very very long time but put it off over and over until the kids were old enough to be responsible and helpful. For years I have done all day daycare and didn't feel it was fair to my clients to have a dog in the house because that's not what we originally agreed upon. So I waited.. and waited .. and waited.
This fall I will intentionally only have before and afterschool kids over the age of 6. All my toddler clients have grown up and will be in school full time. We decided this was a good time for me to train a puppy, and that during the before and after school period my daughter can keep the puppy occupied while we are in the daycare room. Before school puppy will be crated for half an hour after she leaves, but after school dd is home earlier than everyone else because she is in high school.
So today I got an email from the breeder that someone had cancelled their puppy (virtually unheard of.. she has huge waiting lists) and that the first person on the list to respond could move their date up.

I called my husband, had a quick pow-wow with my kids and they all picked PUPPY!!!!!!
My sister offered to watch puppy for our December trip as she is laid off for 3 months every winter and has a dog of her own.
So.. all signs pointed to puppy. Please understand we're all a little sad but so ready for our new family member that we are mostly just excited.
And the kids don't even know we'll go in December anyway! They just chose puppy because they are so ready!!

I know this sounds crazy unless you are a dog lover, but we've been blessed to go many times, and have another trip planned. I will be sad to no longer be planning with you but will still happily check in and wish you all well and to hear about your plans.
You guys are the best!!
From one VERY excited puppy mommy! (we pick him up in 3.5 weeks!!!)

We have two fur babies and I can totally understand being so excited! Having a dog is an awesome treat and responsibility. We love ours to no end, just like I'm sure you will! Enjoy your new family member and I'm sure putting the trip off will make the December trip an even better surprise! :thumbsup2 Don't be a stranger!

And I love the name Walt! :)

You made the switch! Did you change your dining plan at all?

Nope. DH fully approved the change and wanted the DxDP so he didn't have to worry about it. AND it was much cheaper than we had originally thought it would be? The early summer discount must have been more for the Poly than the late summer discount??

I will be cancelling my ADR's tomorrow. I don't think I have anything anyone would be dying for but I'll put them in here before I do. Maybe the Ohana for four at 6:50 on August 31st.

If only that was 2 days sooner. :(. I have been stalking the cancellation thread!

Congrats on your new puppy! And at least you don't have to worry about crazy August weather (speaking of crazy weather....anyone in Toronto right now??? :scared1:)

We are also flying out Dec. 13 for a surprise trip for the kids.
Enjoy your new addition. :goodvibes

Awesome! Poly and DxDP, with a bigger discount than expected, sounds wonderful!

It sounds like you made the right decision for your family, so that's all that matters! Your trip in December will be that much sweeter, and your kids will be so excited to find out they got a puppy AND were able to go to Disney after all. Congratulations on the newest member of your family! :thumbsup2

Pigletto, totally agree with the above response!! Enjoy your new puppy!

Traditions:

There are some things we do each trip, but the one that may be the least "traditional" is taking my son's photo with Zurg at the end of the Buzz Lightyear ride in MK. It's fun to see his growth compared to the previous trip.

This is too cute! I know I mentioned this, but I love my pics of the boys on Tom Sawyer Island each year. They sit in the same place and it is cool to see how much they have grown.

24 days and then 8 nights at the Poly!!!! :-)

I need to change my signature!

Very cool! I have never stayed at the Poly, but I think I could live there. Heaven on earth. Def the better beach, you have a view of the castle and the nighttime float parade!!!

For those of you who have it, the Walt Disney World Modern Marvels is on H2 (History Channel 2) right now!!

I'm in Toronto - wow, highway was at a standstill on the way home - never tried to drive in anything like it before. It is still coming down. Just checked the crawl space and water is coming in - oh no always something :-(. I hope it lets up soon it is still coming down in buckets here.

We're watching the passengers being rescued off the Go Train right now.

Another Torontonian here. My dad lost power at his place, but we didn't at ours, we're far enough away from downtown.

The pictures I'm seeing are unbelievable. Everything is flooded. Luckily my mom weather-proofed our leak-prone basement last year, otherwise it would be a disaster zone at my house. Hopefully the buses will be able to run tomorrow otherwise I won't be able to get to my summer class! That is, if the campus is even open.

We're about an hour and a half from downtown T.O. in Niagara. Just heard two HUGE claps of thunder. I haven't heard anything like that in a few summers and it's going to be a big one! I'm sorry to hear it was so nasty for all of you in T.O.
I should call my gramma. She's 87 and on her own in Etobicoke. I hope she isn't scared.

It's hitting me that my ticker just went from 46 days to 152:scared:
Think Puppy thoughts Pigletto!!!

It's a little tough, but most people don't have a trip so close to look forward to when they cancel. And heck the kids don't even know we're going in December and they are being absolutely great about it. They both said "We love Disney but we'll go back one day Mom. We're just happy to get a puppy!".
Good kiddos:goodvibes

Oh btw.. I am still totally going to hang out in this thread ok? Mostly because I don't know what else to do with myself and nobody chats in the December thread:rotfl:
