I just booked Dessert Party for Aug 23...was wondering if the 9:00 time slot means we will be closer to the front vs. the 9:15 people???? Anyone know how that works?

Thanks!

August Reservations for the Dessert Party opened up this afternoon. (At least on-line) It sounds like some people are having problems calling in. I scored our reservation for the 22nd. Woo Hoo!

WooHoo!! I just reserved August 21!!!

Question, as I have never done this before, there were two time options, 9:00 and 9:20. I opted for 9:20. Does it make a difference?

It is?! I have never noticed that to be the case after all my years here. Seeing the city empty has never been my experience. That would definitely be strange!

Apparently I was at Disney World as a 1 year-old, but since I don't remember that... My first time seeing the castle was at 30, in 2007. My son was 5. I cried, so I was happy to have giant sunglasses hiding my face. :goodvibes

Yes! Well maybe not the touristy mid-town area, but when I lived on West 19th and 7th, as soon as summer hit, I could get parking in front of my building anytime I wanted - it was great!

Good greif, I just booked the party for the 21st, too. I don't know if we'll keep it. I told DH we would do the party OR the family magic tour, but I couldn't resist. DS6 has asked multiple times if we can do it again. I'll see which one the kiddos pick.

ETA: The kids voted and it was unanimous. We're doing the dessert party again. It actually works out really well. We have BOG at 4:45, and the next day is our rest day. It will be a late night, but I'm kind of glad they chose the party.

From what I understand it doesn't matter where your table is because everyone stands by the railing anyway.

They assign tables based on the order ADR we're made. Since it just opened up, you should have a decent spot. Yes, many people stand on the rail, anyway.

Thank all of you for your kind words! We found out that the deployment is for sure going to happen, will be 12 months, but won't be until next June. He'll leave right as our son turns 2 and come back right as he turns 3 (he missed his birth too :sad2:) but I'm keeping positive. We get a whole year together until then!

QOTD
I also was introduced to the big pink birthday cake castle and remember being confused! :rotfl: I can't wait for my kids to see it!

Also got a ressie for the dessert party on 8/30!

:welcome: to our thread! Glad to have you along! Your trip falls just before ours.....we are there from the 23rd to the 31st. It will be here before we all know it!

The days seemed to be going so slow for awhile there, but now they are flying by. I hope you have a wonderful time!

We will be staying those exact dates but at YC!!
:)
It will be our youngest daughter's first trip too!

My DD is so excited, she can hardly wait to leave. It's all she talks about. I hope your family has a great time!

:welcome: We're at AoA in a Cars suite (hoping to get switched to Nemo) from 8/17-8/23. Maybe we'll run into each other. Check out the facebook page too for more collaboration.

That would be awesome. I joined the group on FB. :)

last year we were in the second row of seats and we were able to sit in our seats and still see the fireworks perfectly fine--even with people standing at the railing.

And, now that I'm on an actual computer instead of my cell phone: AUGUST IS OPEN AUGUST IS OPEN AUGUST IS OPEN AND I GOT THE DAYS I WANTED!!!!!

Looked at a lot of different Disney stuff today. I priced out APs again after the price increase and it's still not a worthwhile investment for us. If we skipped the water parks it might be worth it but it would barely be breaking even or maybe a couple dollars ahead for our upcoming trips. It seems like the break even point for the APs is about a 12 day stay if my math is right. Since we're likely doing 4 days this trip and 5 days next trip it just wouldn't be worth it. If we were hopping *and* doing the water parks we could probably justify it, but we're not really into hopping so there's not much value there for us.

With everyone talking about the Dessert party I looked into that a bit. The dates we are going to be there are open (I thought it might be cool for our last night there) but I don't know if I'm really interested in spending that much for a place to get junk food and watch fireworks that my kids don't care much for. We thought about using the headphones that they use at the race track to help with the sound, but not sure they'd be very interested in that.

I mentioned it to my wife and she told me that a friend told her about the Pirates and Pals Fireworks cruise so I looked that up too. We could probably do that but it conflicts with our Chef Mickey's dinner, which is sold out the night we have it booked so we can't even adjust it. It's something to look forward to for June though.

We're 2 and 1/2 months away and I think this time is going to go by quickly. :cool1:

You can get a microwave in your room?? I never heard of that. How does this work?

Well, as far as I know it runs on electricity and it makes micro waves. These waves excite the water molecules in the food. ;-)
I read you just have to ask for one at check in and it's first come first serve.

Yikes I was just reading a thread about how hot it is already and how terrible it is etc. Then lots of people chimed in and said they went once in the summer and would never do it again and so on and so on and so on!!! I just shouldn't read these threads as then I think maybe the end of August wasn't such a great idea but then I think when else could we have gone that isn't crazy busy with a child in high school. I know a family that goes just about every other year in August and they love it and spend all day in the parks. So now I'm just confused  by it all. I know lots of people take brakes in the afternoon and I was just leaving that up in the air to see how we did. I think for the frist part of the trip when we are at Universal etc. I was thinking it would be easy to do that there as we are staying on resort and could walk but I'm not so sure it's as easy at WDW and our DHS day and AK day the parks close at 6 and 5 so I don't think we will want to leave the park on those days. Maybe I'm being silly thinking we should get as much as we can done since DH said he wasn't going back for a third time as there were to many other places he wanted to see....we didn't do as much as I would have liked our first trip as we went at the beginning of March at is was busy and I didn't have a clue what to do.
So I would love to hear from those of you who leave the park and those of you who don't leave the park in the afternoons....and really just how bad is the heat and if its so bad why is the summer one of the most popular time of the year...is everyone just mad?:lmao:
I think at this point I would love to get this trip going so I can stop thinking about the heat and the storms etc. and just start to enjoy it! I don't get this crazed about other trips though I do like to plan so I know what I'm doing and how to get from point A to point B! Only 75 more days till we leave and 83 until we are at Disney!

WooHoo!!!!!! :banana::banana::banana:

I'm so glad I checked the boards! I wasn't even all that sure I wanted to spend the money, but once I saw it was open, I just jumped on it :rotfl:. Now I'm super excited!!! I haven't even told anyone in the family yet. DS17 was talking to DW when I was booking it with this giddy grin on my face. He said I think she's buying something on the computer. DW responded, "she looks happier than she has in two weeks - who cares what she's buying!" Wait til they find out :lmao:

:lmao: ok, I deserved that :rotfl:. I had just never heard that microwaves were available in the rooms before - you learn something new every day here on the DIS :cool1:

We were going to play it by ear, but now that I've been working on our itinerary, I decided to build in break time. We usually leave the parks anyway mid-day, but sometimes we stay all day and make it an earlier night. Since we really want to take advantage of late nite extra magic hours, a mid-day break is really the only way to go. Plus, we figure it will help us beat the heat and not feel so whiny and stressed from pushing too hard. I feel better now that we know we will go back to the hotel for a little while in the afternoon! :beach:

Is 8:20 p.m. an o.k. time? Wishes is at 9:00 pm the night we are doing the dessert party. I have never done this before. I saw an 8:00 and then an 8:15, but I got kicked off the site and when I went back in, only 8:20 was offered.

Although they give you a time, your table already has your name on it before you even get there. So it really doesn't matter when you line up because you know your table will be there waiting--along with all those FABULOUSLY fun desserts!!! Don't forget to get your picture taken!! PP photographer is there and they get beautiful shots with Castle in the background!!!

I think I also participated in that thread. Yes it's Africa hot. And this is our 4th year in a row doing it so fun can be had:thumbsup2
Trust me, I have no interest in throwing my money away year after year on a miserable experience. This is when we can go and we always have a blast. Just plan for breaks, hydrate OFTEN, and take it easy. You'll have fun too:wizard:
