Ditto here!

So, as a QOTD, have you/would you plan a Disney trip without your kids? If so, did you/would you feel guilty? And, do your kids know where you are going?

Personally, I wouldn't. Jake loves to travel, and its our privilege to have him along on our vacations. We love spending time together and sharing new experiences with each other, and we have a blast doing so. There is absolutely no reason for us not to take him with us.....DH and I will have plenty of time to travel as a couple once he's on his own :thumbsup2 .

On a purely practical side, he would have no one to stay with when we were gone, so it wouldn't be a possibility anyway. While my mom would love his company (and he would love hers), she doesn't drive and lives in a different city which would be problematic with his school, work and sports commitments. DH's parents have little to nothing to do with our family on a regular basis, and it would be punishment to allocate him to their care during our absence (DH has a brother 2 years younger than Jake who is a NIGHTMARE....no way I would force Jake to endure his antics while we have the time of our lives on vacation). And having him stay alone? Not a chance ;) . He's an awesome kid and very responsible but he's still a teenager :rolleyes2 .

When he's older, I hope Jake will continue to try and join us when we embark on our next adventure. I would love to have him and his significant other (and even his kids) along for the fun. The memories made and shared with others tend to be the ones we cherish the most. As long as DH & I have our own separate bedroom to retreat to at the end of the day, its all good :rotfl: .

Sending hugs and prayers your way Sarah. May your August trip be filled with pixie dust and wonderful new memories for you and your sister!:flower3:

Hello my team August friends!

The past few months have been quite busy for me, as many of you know my mom had been in very poor health and unfortunately she was not able to recover. She was removed from life support and passed peacefully on the 23rd.

I realize more that ever that I really need this August trip. Since I am taking my sister for her first ever trip, my mom was overjoyed that her girls were going to have a vacation together. So now it's time to put myself back into planning and catch up on everything I've missed. It's going to take me a few days to catch up on everything but I'll definitely have everything updated.

Thanks to everyone for your concern while I was away!! :grouphug:

Sorry for your loss, you and your family are in my prayers.

We haven't taken a trip without them, and I don't imagine we ever would! We love bringing them everywhere with us, especially Disney. Although, that is one of the things I love about Disney cruises. We still get to do Disney with our girls, but it's easier to have adult time, too. No need to leave them at home when there is a kids club around!

This thread is moving fast! I had an unexpected visit to the hospital yesterday for excruciating abdominal pain. It felt like something was about to rupture, and it turned out be a kidney stone. One day away, and I come back to five pages?!? Has anyone had a kidney stone before? I hope I never get one again!

My mom gets kidney stones at least once a year. They are terrible. I hope you're ok.

I don't think I would take a long trip to WDW without my kids until they are grown. I would feel guilty. However, I was in California several years ago, and my cousin and I went to DL for a day. It was a blast we hadn't gone together since we were kids ourselves. I did miss my kids and called them from the park. That was a mistake.

:thumbsup2. Everything you said. Only I do have people I could leave them with.. I just don't want to:rotfl:
I will leave them for an overnight, or maybe even a weekend. We just roll as a family. It's how we do things I guess. I've mentioned before that dd goes on and on about getting DVC so we can have family vacations with significant others and grandkids when those days come. I don't know about that because I picture a cottage or maybe a condo in the mountains for that. But time will tell I guess.
I did leave dd alone overnight when we went to a basketball tournament. I know this kid.. she's too much of a worry wart to try and pull anything. She had a friend stay with her and my next door neighbour was home for emergencies. She did fine besides leaving a mess and eating all the junk food:rotfl:

Seriously though, we love to travel. It's higher on our priority list than many other luxuries, so we skip those things and it all works. Although we've now eaten out or ordered in every night for the past two weeks which really isn't in the budget, but that's life...

We're in the same camp as you. We love to travel and having our family spread out all over the world requires that we travel if we want to see them. My mom is the only family we have locally so if we want to see anyone else it's a 20 hour car ride or a 15 hour flight to be able to see them. We save for these trips and find ways to do it as inexpensive as possible and plan them 6-12 months in advance so that we can enjoy life. We live in a modest home and carry no debt and that gives us the freedom to give our children wonderful experiences.

Hello :wave2:
We recently booked our trip to Disney from 8/1-8/8.
I just found this thread. I'm super excited for the trip and have been a bit overwhelmed with all of the ADR's. As of now I think we have a good plan going. I ordered our personalized maps which I hope don't take forever to arrive. As you see in my pic I have a 9 yr old DD and a 19 month old DS. He will be 23 months when we go on our trip. We'll be staying at POR in the Royal Suite which I fell in love with once I saw them. We have never stayed at Disney as long as we will be this trip. It will also be our first time staying onsite. We have never done all 4 parks on the same trip either. It will be our first time going to AK and DH first time at Epcot as well. We looked in renting DVC points but I think it's too short of a time period to get what we wanted. Maybe next trip.
I hope to read the previous pages to get to know you guys better.:)

I am a bit late to the game, but we are going the first week of August!!

7/31-8/2 offsite (Sea World)
8/2-8/8 - CR

I will post more details later to be added to all the great lists at the beginning of this thread. :-) But in the meantime, hello fellow August WDW DISers!

Good morning! :-)

So I haven't read all 100 pages yet of the thread, BUT my family (DH, DS6 and DD2) will be at CR August 2-8. (Offsite 7/31-8/2 with a trip to Sea World 8/1)

As for ADRs, here is what we have at the moment:

8/2 - Chef Mickey's 6:30pm

8/3 - Yak and Yeti 12:30pm
1900 Park Fare 7:20pm

8/4 - Hollywood & Vine 8:25am
50's Primetime 1:30pm
Tony's Town Square 7:30pm

8/5 - Coral Reef 12:10pm
Le Cellier 7:10pm

8/6 - Crystal Palace 8:35am
Via Napoli 7:45pm

8/7 - Cinderella's Royal Table 4:20pm
Thinking Wishes Dessert Party 9pm

8/8 - O'Hana 9:55am

The kids don't know we're going yet! We want it to be a surprise this time around! :-)

My wife and I will be staying at CR Aug 1- Aug 8. We will be celebrating our 2nd Anniversary. Thank you for all of the helpful information!

We're joining team August as well! We were originally going in June, but got a great offer for August in the royal room at POR--so excited to be there August 11-22!

Ok, so here are my ADRs. They are all dinners, minus the last day, which is a breakfast.

8/12 Biergarten 5pm

8/13 Liberty Tree Tavern 5:25pm

8/14 Rose and Crown 5:35pm

8/15 Sanaa 5:25pm

8/16 Kona 9am

Now, for lunches, we'll be doing CS meals. On 8/15 we are going to DHS and hitting Pizza Planet for lunch for sure.

I would like to go to BOG on 8/13 but I'm not sure on what the wait will be like by then, and don't really want to subject my kids to a 30+ minute wait for lunch. We don't have hopper passes, so the places we're eating dinner at is where we'll be for the day. What CS meals do you guys highly recommend. Keep in mind we're a family of 5 with an almost 2 year old (who will have his own food).

I'm open to anything...so no holding back!

Sooo sorry!! These are the REAL dates
8/6 to 8/10 Disney's Contemporary Resort Club Level
8/11 to 8/15 Disney's Polynesian Resort Club Level

August 25-29

Old Key West Resort

ADRs- (so far)

8/27 @ 9:30am - Crystal Palace

8/28 @ 12:20pm - Hollywood and Vine

I'm going to try to put up the Lime Green Mickeys but we are staying with friends and I do not know if they will be ok with it (but they are Disney Fanatics so they might).
Our friends are DVC members and they book the villa for us and our mutual granddaughter. We have a few days of total spoiling time with the grandbaby with no parents around!!! :cool1:

My first time on the board but am super excited to be going back for 2nd trip Aug 21-31. First time at Disney was last August and we're hooked. We're booked at POFQ, 2 adults, 2 DS,one 11 one turning 10 while at Disney! We have 10 nights with park hopper/waterpark and dining and came in $6000 - like everyone we are awaiting late summer discounts as we'd like to bring this down any way we can! Willing to move to POR preferred room if we need to for a discount- sometimes FQ is less and fewer rooms avail. Has anyone stayed in AB? Some seem to love, some not so much but those are the only preferred rooms (though I think my boys would like that more than princess rooms! LOL). Since we are in Toronto we also had airfare - our "deal" was $1800 for 4 (already paid). This is a big trip for us so am in hyper planning mode!

Please add us for August. We will be at the GF from the 17-23. My husband, 21year old son & 25 year old nephew. Haven't been since 2008 and I can't wait!

Wow our little thread is moving right along, how exciting! I'm up to page 120 so far. Will work on more later. Hope everyone is having a great day :thumbsup2

:grouphug: I'm very sorry for your loss. You are right about needing this trip. My father passed 1/09 and my mother 3 months and 18 days later. One of the few things that kept me going was knowing I was headed down to POR for 11 days. It helped get through the days. Same thing happened two years later when I lost my brother (at 49) You need a focus. Something to look forward when you are so sad.

My mom gets kidney stones at least once a year. They are terrible. I hope you're ok.
Thanks, I'm doing good. They said there is some swelling around my kidney, but it will subside. Thankfully, the CT scan didn't show evidence of any more stones, so that's good news, too.

Ugh, that is frequent! The doctors kept telling me, once you get them, you are more likely to get them again. It can be genetic for some, and diet for others. I'm hoping I can at least do everything diet-wise to prevent any more in the future!

I think I speak for all of us when I say

THANK YOU!!!!!!!

for all the hard work you put into managing the lists on this thread. :thumbsup2

You rock! :cool2:

Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

I highly reccomend Sanaa! The setting is gorgeous, the food is unique and delicious. We have almost identical dining plans except for Liberty Tree. We are not going to Sanaa this time (no repeats allowed!) but Boma instead. Enjoy your solo trip! :)

Good to hear! I'll see if I can go there during my trip. Funny how we have almost the same plans for dining.

Has anyone done the Family Magic Tour or whatever it's called at MK? Trying to decide if it'd be a good addition to our plans or not...DS6 and DD2...

I've never done it, but I was eyeing it too. I don't think we are gonna do it this time, but maybe next! Always a good reason to keep coming back, haha!!

Thanks, I am feeling better. I have much respect for anyone who had to assist me yesterday--I was quite the handful, to say the least! :)
