I was told by the CM when I added a day to our package at Pop not to do online check in since we come in the day before our package starts, it felt wrong so what say you all shall I do online for our arrival night or not?? TYIA for opinions!

Are you picking up tickets ahead of your package start date? If so, that's why. Otherwise you will be checking in for RO with no tickets attached to your KTTW card.

For a 6 or 7 day trip I am with you and vote to fly. We've considered driving and may if plane tickets are too high for the next trip but there are four of us. Is your dh a nervous flyer (which I can totally relate to)? Or is it a cost thing? If it's cost, I came across this calculator today that you may want to go over with him..http://www.befrugal.com/tools/fly-or-drive-calculator/.

Another vote for flying for that length of a trip. If you have a couple of weeks to work with, then a road trip can be a lot of fun and not cut in to the prime of your vacation time. But for a shorter trip, its nice to get there and enjoy as much time at your destination as possible.

The fly vs. drive calculator was rather interesting. I ran our dates and put in our family-specific data, and the costs came out within $50 of each other. I have always told people (those well meaning folks who always preach about the savings of driving) that its just as cheap for us to fly out of Syracuse vs. drive, and now I have the proof :thumbsup2 .

On a totally unrelated note, I found my SPF 100 sunscreen yesterday  . We happened to be in our local Giant Tiger discount store, and there was a big Banana Boat display in their seasonal section. Got the second last bottle. Bring on the sunshine ...... we are ready!!! :cool2:

DH,DS, and myself will be visiting for the 4th time August 11-17. We have booked at CSR. This is our second time staying at this wonderful resort. We have also done AKL but my son prefers the pool at CSR.

Looking forward to resort hopping this year, never have done this so I am excited, this should help on choosing a resort for our next trip. Always planning!!!

Gina I was looking at Jetblue last night out of Syracuse (about 3 hours away for us I think) and it is soooo much cheaper than out of Buffalo for the same dates in December! If the prices aren't good when Southwest opens up their schedule I'd think of driving to Syracuse for sure.

And 100 SPF? Clearly you have the same tolerance for the sun that dd and I do:rolleyes1
Dh and ds have that lovely olive Italian complexion. Dd and I tend more to our British roots.:rotfl:

ETA) just checked again. Non stops for our December dates from SYR..1055. Non Stops from Buffalo?..1575. Definitely worth the drive IMO.

Jetblue out of Buff for my August dates right now are around 1900.

I just checked out the calculator, too! We fly out of Pittsburgh. According to the calculator, we're paying $38.50 more to fly than drive. That's a no brainer. Total travel time door to door to fly was about 7 hours. Total travel time driving was 1 day, 7 hours, 30 min! I think that $38.50 is well worth it.:thumbsup2

Hey! We'll be checking into AKL on the 2nd! :-). And hey, love the username. I'm an English teacher and so therefore, a definite bookworm and library geek. ;-)

Oh, awesome! I can't even put into words how excited I am to be at AKL. We were originally booked at POP, and then a family member with DVC offered us points so we really lucked into it!

Welcome!! Another former English teacher and book geek over here, so I too, love your screen name!

Wonderful! I have my teaching certification for English 7-12, but decided to go on to grad school to get my masters in library science. Now I've just graduated and hoping to find a job as a librarian soon!

So....some folks kind of touched on this in the budget QOTD a week or so back, but let's make this an official QOTD all on its own:

Do you have a pet (or pets) that require care during your trip?

Do you board them, have a neighbour watch over them, or take them to you parents house to be "babysat"?

Does it cost you anything, and if so, how much?

Do they care if you are gone (and are mad as heck when you get home?) or do they thoroughly enjoy the temporary accommodations with the kennel/dog-sitter/grandma/neighbour?

And if you are willing.....please post a pic so we can all admire your fur-baby (or I also suppose that could be a feather baby for those with birds :rotfl:).

I'm a few days late but still wanted to share! We have two cats that are pretty rambunctious - Merlin and Samwise, who are each about a year old now. My brother-in-law or one of our friends usually comes over once a day to feed them, scoop poop, and play with them a bit. We don't pay them or anything but we encourage them to use our video game systems (DH and his friends are nerds ;) ) while at our house. So they usually share for an hour or two each day playing video games, which is nice because then the cats get some cuddle time in too :thumbsup2

Here's Samwise, doing what I call his "modeling" pose:

And here's Merlin, back around Christmas time:

Aside from the extra drive for you (its shorter for me, being from the "east"), you will really like the Syracuse airport. Its even smaller, I think, than Buffalo. The only strike against it is that there are far less places to grab something to eat there......one café-type place and that's it. We're not big airport eaters at the best of times, though (keep in mind that airsickness is often a problem for me :rolleyes1) so that's never been a huge issue. DH and DS have yet to starve :rotfl: . For that substantial of a price difference, I would do the extra drive in a heartbeat.

We never fly anywhere, but for kicks, I tried the calculator. It said it would cost us $200 to drive (which is true) and $1000 to fly. Made me feel better about taking the time to drive instead of fly! :)

Thanks for posting! The offer is a little odd, and it looks like MouseSavers has already edited some of the information, but I'll be glad to have something. Looking forward to playing with quotes on Disney's website on Thursday!

Yes, I actually just saw this! I am going to delete the copy and just keep the link so people can stay current!

looks like this may help me after all!

Wow.. a lot of exclusions on that offer. In fact, in some places the summer discount was much better. It looks like this offer is directly targeted to fill the rooms that weren't booking well. Leads me to believe it's going to be busier than I had hoped. I guess we'll see.

Same here. It costs us about $250-$300 to drive (just gas, we drive straight thru, so no overnight costs) and we're paying just over $1,000 to fly this year. Hard to justify that extra $700, but we have other concerns this year. Next year, back to driving :thumbsup2
