For those of you that booked with the Yacht Club please check out Magical Vacations travel if you haven't. They get group rates on blocks of rooms and I know they have Yacht Club available for the end of August. I originally had Beach Club booked with them but cancelled (it's sold out now.. they only get certain rooms at certain resorts). Anyway.. the rate on a Standard room worked out to like $130 a night or so. It's a HUGE savings.

On another note..
I was wondering. Do any of you have the personal misting fans? Do you like them and what brand or model do you recommend? We bought some once but they were huge, leaky and bulky so they were a waste. If someone has a recommendation for something smaller that works well, I'd love to hear it:)

We still have those big bulky fans from 2006. But they have a strap attached so we keep it strapped to DF's backpack. It can hold a lot of water but what I learned from my last August trip is to just fill up about a cup and re-fill in a washroom if you run out. That way, it keeps the load light and out of the way.

We still have a fan from when we visited in 2010. We didn't take it last year but we didn't need it in November. It will be brought along. The kids liked them. I don't know if the fan does much so just having a spray bottle to cool off with would probably accomplish the same thing.

Saw a neat idea on FB last night that I want to try if I remember to. When on vacation send yourself a postcard each day with what you did that day of your trip. When you get home and they all arrive you can bind them into a book with memories of your trip! :thumbsup2

That postcard idea sounds great!! I need to add stamps to my list of things to pack..

We have ones from previous trips too which we will definitely bring!! The kids love them! Thinking about those neck things that you freeze or something and they're supposed to keep you cool?? Was wondering if it would be helpful for DH...

That postcard idea sounds really neat. :-) I found a great idea for an autograph book...putting together a photo book of the kids with the characters from previous years (one character per page). Then they sign with a sharpie their page. Have extra pages in the back for new characters and you can add their pics to the next book. ;-)

We bought them for our trip last August. Ours were manufactured and distributed by Discovery Kids. You can see them here:

We purchased them at our local Giant Tiger for about $6 each. They're not huge, but their not tiny either. We had no problem with leaking.

What an excellent idea :thumbsup2 . I think I may double-up, and send a set to my mom too. She will get a kick out of getting a series of postcards from the places we visit.

This may be a silly question, but do you need to like wipe your face off after using a misting fan or does it evaporate pretty quickly in August heat? Would it make sense to bring something like face wipes instead?

For me, the mist doesn't produce great big droplets. Just a light mist that cools you off but doesn't leave that much water on you.

I'm pretty sure anything more than that would evaporate pretty quickly, just like you said.

I think you're talking about the Frogg Toggs Chilly Pad. We're thinking of getting these for the trip too. We're also looking at getting some shirts made outof similar material made by Columbia. Same concept that it keeps moisture off of you and cools down the core.

I ride my motorcycle to work in the Texas heat and often when riding home I'll soak down my shirt with water before I start a trip. Usually by the time I'm home I'm dry and it keeps my core temp down so I don't pass out in the 110 degree heat. :)

That's a good idea. Postcards are typically pretty cheap if I recall so sending a set home plus another set or two to some family is probably a good idea too.

That's exactly what we did! Great deal (Actually about $190 per night). It was sure hard to pass up the Grand Floridian at $257 a night! Holy cow. But I already had my heart set on the YC/BC and it IS another $500...

So waiting for my confirmation then grabbing the plane tickets - hopefully today.

Already have some dining lined up. New for us will be Coral Reef and Cape May. And some favorites, Akershus Princesses, Crystal Palace, Yak & Yeti probably.

Danny 25 will have an announcement tonight about late summer discounts.

I hope you all have a magical day, and get some pixie dust for your trips

Interesting!

There is a Walt Disney World "Monstrous Summer" press event supposed to be scheduled for tomorrow and Friday. It is rumored they will be announcing renovations to the Disney Magic and Wonder cruise ships, but I wonder what else will be announced?? I am waiting on late summer discounts, so I can't wait!

Danny25 has been giving the Dis information about discounts for about 2 years. The first time NO ONE believed it would come to pass, but word for word what he told us came true the day he said it would, and since then, he has continued to give us notice on when Discounts were coming and what the discount would be.

He didn't wait. Its posted: FD to start Sept 2. I know a lot of people will be upset to miss this in August but I'm relieved! Hoping for low crowds end of August!

Well he just updated and it looks like FREE dining for September dates - SORRY.

But do you think that maybe there isn't a discount for the last two weeks of August because they are already substantially booked? Do they do discounts to try and bulk up slower times or like as the mood strikes?

I think at this time they have enough bookings.

Our BC portion of our August trip is with *** and it is a huge savings! We would have saved a lot more had we not chosen to do a split with the Poly, but that was high on the list for this trip. They are very easy to work with as well.

Love this idea!!! I am going to attempt it. I'm not sure if I'll be able to follow through, but I'll try!

We used the Chilly Pads last time. I think I may cut them down - they do keep you cool, but the whole pad is a little large and bulky.

You will LOVE staying at the YC and trying out Cape May - it's become a must do for us.

Wow, I have to go check it out. Not that it's going to help me, but I feel like I've been following those threads forever. I do have to say that I am very surprised that Disney is going to allow 8/15-9/2 go without any discounts of any kind. It seems like those are typically slower weeks than mid summer, and mid summer got room discounts. Maybe people will switch up their dates or hold off and the parks will be less crowded.

I totally agree with you there. This will probably mean that the crowds will be lower the second half of August then they will be in Sept.

I kept trying for a quote from them, but no such luck, so...that's ok...I'm so excited for AKL this trip!!
