Good work.. you have him thinking about the next trip before the first trip:thumbsup2:rotfl:

However, I bet you when you get back you'll be planning a trip for next year within 90 days. We went for our first and only family trip to Disney in 2008. That was 8 trips ago:rolleyes1

My master plan was to talk him into DVC eventually  Gradually working up to it with a trip here and there!

On our first family trip my husband said that was it...once in a lifetime. Then we had another kiddo so we had to take him. Then I talked him into one more trip since he's free till he's three! It's a downward slope from here I'm sure! :lmao: He'll drink the punch once he's at Disney and sees the kids reactions! :thumbsup2

That's awesome! I never had said that it was a once in a lifetime trip when we took DD1 for her birthday but my wife said that if we do it for one we have to do it for the other, so we took DD2 last year for her birthday. Now of course we're going back this August and we're supposed to go next June for a friend's kid's birthday but they are thinking of not going so we may just go without them. :rotfl2:

LOL. We went to DLR last summer and DH made me "promise" that I wouldn't ask for another Disney trip until the kids were 14 and 10, which would be in 2022.

Then I talked him into maaaybe doing a WDW trip this summer. At a value. Bare bones stuff. Cheap as possible.

Well, as of yesterday...we're booked at the YC for August 24-31! :rotfl2: We got the *** deal, and I convinced him that being so close to two of the parks will make our trip go much more smoothly, and since he doesn't especially like Disney, doesn't he want everything to be as stress free as possible? LOL. He's still standing firm that while I can make him go, and I can make him act happy for the kids' sake, I can't make him like it. We'll see about that.:rotfl: I caught him having a genuine good time pretty frequently at DL, even if he denies it.

They may have the bookings they need with bouncebacks etc but those two events would not be enough. You have to figure that will fill two hotels.. if that when they have 24 hotels to fill. I think that the bookings for September were lower so they decided to offer free dining (way later than ever before) for that month but honestly this just falls in line with what they've been saying in their major economic statements. They said they were scaling back on the discounts because their economy has recovered. The discount structure took a radical departure from the past 4 or 5 years this year. They're offering them later, with more restrictions and with lower percentages off.

We've gone for the last week of August four years now. It's been steadily busier each year with last year being noticeably busier. I think the 2 major events may come in to play but it's all part of a larger picture.
I still think *something* will come out for this time frame because there is NO way that the last week of August is as busy as the rest of the summer by far. I'm predicting a room only discount though.

You're right that they won't fill up the entire property but I think it's a combination of things and those things are included. Like you I think *something* will come out, but it won't be substantial enough for me to move my reservation.

I took a look at YC after reading about the *** promo. It looks like a very nice room and would allow us a little bit more room to move about than the AoA LM rooms. At $190/night it would likely be about $400 more than our stay at AoA, but if we scaled back our DDP back to QS we wouldn't be spending more. We'll see what *** comes back with.

We haven't had one of these in a while so I thought I would throw one out there. Since so many couples here are celebrating their anniversaries...

Question of the day:

Which TS restaurant would you choose to celebrate your anniversary?

We did celebrate our anniversary last year at Disney :goodvibes and it was awesome! Our special dinner was at the California Grill, and we couldn't have asked for a better evening. Everything was perfect - our server was amazing, food was fantastic, wine choices were outstanding, and the atmosphere and view just blew us away. I'd go back there in a heartbeat!

That being said, I haven't been to any other signature restaurants, so I can't comment on which would be the "best". Cali Grill was definitely special :thumbsup2

What does TS stand for?

Your singing my song here:rotfl2:.It always starts out as a bare bones value trip.. it never ends up that way though. However, one thing that really worked was to decide yearly what we were willing to spend on vacations and stick to it. So once I have that number we're both happy because it's the limit and then I can plan until my little heart is content. I usually opt to save money now, so I can squeak 2 trips out of the budget. Dh also pretended to not like Disney. But he also pretends to not like the kids, the cats or me sometimes:rotfl2: In all honesty he just worries about the money but once it's all worked out and settled he's the one in all the pictures with the big grin on his face;)

Have you given any thought to no ddp at all? I know that can seem a little scary because with the DDP your costs are fixed and there are no surprises. But once I crunched those numbers inside and out and thought about what we eat.. it doesn't really work for us. I am willing to eat all counter service one day so we can work a special table service into the budget the next day. Or grab a pizza and snacks one night for dinner and go to Chef Mickeys for a character breakfast the next dat with the savings. We are big eaters but even we completely waste food on the DDP (mostly desserts). I plan this time to put our daily dining money in envelopes for each day. If we go under, we can roll it into the next day, if we max out maybe we skip a table service one day. It can work. But I do know how nerve wracking it is to worry about what to order and whether I am spending too much, so I do understand wanting to stick with a dining plan.

Without a doubt Jiko. We went as a family once a few summers ago, and then for a date night last month. We just love it!

Well since I've done it a couple of times before this is a no brainer... California Grill. Since it will be closed for my next trip Artist Point it is. Hardly a hardship.

Seeing that I am one of those couples, we choose BoG. Due to its newness and the decor being from Beauty and the Beast, which is her favorite movie, it was really a no brainer.

We usually celebrate our anniversary at Disney since that's where we got engaged (Alfredo's in Italy at Epcot actually). Most of the time we end up at one of the Italian restaurants because of this, but I'm not a fan of Tutto Italia, so Via Napoli it is this trip. Was going to do CRT, but decided to save it for our last night followed by the Wishes dessert party. :-)

Probably one of the restaurants where we can see Wishes while we're eating. Either that or possibly Tutto Italia in Epcot since we've never been there.

This trip was supposed to be a "value" trip doing counter service only so we can just go with the flow and keep costs down. We considered doing Chef Mickey's OOP on our arrival night and then we thought about adding Akershus at Epcot since the girls love princesses. If we add two TS meals it doesn't make sense not to go with DDP over QSDP. We like DP because everything is paid for up front and we're not thinking that we could be spending some of that money elsewhere. I've considered going OOP and just doing CS for meals but the wife wants the DP so we have the DP. I have crunched some numbers and the QSDP doesn't really save anything when you have kids unless you go to specific places that are more expensive. I've booked a couple of pre-RD ADRs with character meals if we decide to upgrade to DDP but it somewhat depends on the budget. When we get to about 45 days out we'll know all of the promotions available and have a better picture of what our budget completely is. I like the character meals because you can catch a lot of the characters and don't have to wait in lines for them so you can do other things. My wife and I are also on a weight loss kick and are eating a lot less lately though so we may also want to trim some of those meals down, even though food consumed at Disney has no calories. :)

So I made the mistake of getting a quote from *** for the Yacht Club. It's cheaper than our current booking at POR by $357! Now I'm not sure what to do. The only difference is that we have FD at POR which is sweet and a big savings for our family of 5. If we go with the YC, then all of our food is OOP. Decisions, Decisions....:confused3

Hmmm....well, if you can limit yourselves to spending $357 OOP for food, then it would make sense to switch. But, if it will cost you more than that to eat, I would opt for staying with the free dining (which I assume would be the way to go)!

I would stick with POR because I'm guessing you'd spend more than the $357 in food if you did the YC?
