Official 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games thread!

I think he shouldn't have posted it publicly. But I'm ok with athletes talking smack, I'd rather that they are passionate, real people.

This gets into a bigger argument, people complain that we only get cliches, and half answers from athletes, but a soon as one says what they actually feel, or think, we jump down their throats, no wonder we only get the boring talk, one game at a time answers from them.

Could be worse... In the documentary on the "Summit Series" ice hockey series in 1972 that pitted the Canadian NHLer's against the USSR Red Army team, they mentioned that when the Canadians got to their hotel in Russia they found that all of their beer had been stolen out of the team's cargo shipment for that leg of the series. Stealing beer from Canadian hockey players is not a good idea... I think that's the real reason that Canada won 3 of the 4 games played in the USSR!

Even worse, all their rooms were bugged (probably are all bugged for 2014 Olympics as well), there were KGB officers posted to each floor of the hotel posing as maids, or maintenance people. Those summit series were some crazy stuff.

"After the Cournoyer goal, the goal judge refused to put the goal light on despite the fact that it was signalled a goal on the ice. In response, Alan Eagleson (seated across the ice from the Team Canada bench) attempted to reach the timer's bench to protest, causing a ruckus in the crowd as he made his way to the timer's bench. As he was being subdued by the Soviet police, the Canadian players headed over and Peter Mahovlich jumped over the boards to confront police with his stick. Eagleson was freed and the coaches escorted him across the ice to the bench. In anger, he shoved his fist to the Soviet crowd, as a few other Canadian supporters also gave the finger to the Soviets"

No kidding. I remember when that happened, but didn't remember how brutal that series was until I saw the "Cold War On Ice" documentary. Wow! It was clear that after 40 plus years, both groups of players STILL don't like each other. On top of that, Bobby Clarke breaking the ankle of the top Soviet scorer with that slash... oh, my!

Looks like Max Parrot apologized (sort of)... "I'm sorry if I offence anybody. I just meant that it's not as fun to compete at the Olympics when the riders underlights aren't there."

Also appears he deleted his original slam.

:rolleyes2

Not if it's a one-off injury. But when several people have injured themselves due to the design of the course itself an intelligent person would take a moment to evaluate whether it's worth risking themselves when they have other goals to consider. It clearly wasn't worth risking his attempt at a record third gold medal in halfpipe, for Shaun White.

I hope nobody else is injured on the slopes (or anywhere else) and that the event is an exciting addition to the games.

And I still think Parrot is a poor sport.;)

My opinion as well.

If it is the same as Vancouver the CBC feed will not work in the US. Loved the mogels...looking forward to the skating...guess I won't be getting much done this morning! :)

(Said in the kindest voice, no snarkiness intended) CBC didn't cover the Vancouver games. I know because it meant we had to rely on NBC coverage. :sad1:

Sorry you are right CTV did Vancouver. Can you stream CBC?? I was under the impression you couldn't do either one...much like we can't stream the US networks. It would be great if you could...nothing beats watching live.

Where there is a will there is a way. You just need something that blocks/hides or redirects your IP address.

I do use proxies to access things this way & I'm sure that's possible for the CBC stuff as well. Don't know how much of that I'll actually use because of time availability, but I am grateful to be able to access the TV coverage for sure. Such better way of showing the events.

I would bet my house on the fact that shenanigans are going on during these games like phone and room bugging, Russian CIA-type agents everywhere, etc. (Is it still the KGB, or do they call themselves something different now?) Not trying to be a conspiracy theorist, but...

No doubt.

Cameras in the showers? Did you hear bout that one? :scared:

"Just when you thought conditions at hotels in Sochi, Russia, couldn't get any worse, the deputy prime minister let slip that visitors are being spied on while in the shower.

For days journalists attending the games have complained about incomplete construction, hotel rooms without door knobs, suspiciously colored water running from taps, and most notoriously two toilets in a single stall.

When confronted by reporters today, Dmitry Kozak, the deputy prime minister responsible for the Olympic preparations, accused the Western media of a bias against Russia, and said he had seen surveillance footage from inside hotel bathrooms that supported his claim.

"We have surveillance video from the hotels that shows people turn on the shower, direct the nozzle at the wall and then leave the room for the whole day," Kozak said, according to the Wall Street Journal.

A spokesman for Kozak later told the Journal that the deputy premier had misspoke and there were no surveillance cameras inside hotel bathrooms."

I have been watching the past 50 minutes of tonights first telecast and I have two observations....

1) No one says/yells triple axel like Scott Hamilton! You know its a major achievement when he gets excited...I still prefer Dick Butkus but I am old school and actually remember Peggy Fleming winning her gold medal.

2) Has Bob Costas ever warn glasses before on TV? I ask because I actually think he is wearing them (besides possibly needing them) because he has had way to much botox in his forehead. His left eyelid is drooping and eyelid droop is the main side effect of botox injections. When he was talking to the two reporters about the Russian gov't and Putin, his eyebrows and forehead never moved. They tried to move but it just never happened..:)
