Mom & Son Going Back with Dad + 1 - 10/3 - Rose & Crown and now Complete!

This is a brief break from the food porn, although there is some in the form of snacks. I wanted to do something special for DS & DSGF this trip so I ordered the Mickey's Grand Welcome plus some extra balloons. We got back to our room and found this ...

And the snacks inside the red bag ...

These light up are bringing me great happiness in my living room ...

Pricey? You bet. But well worth it. They were definitely surprised and really excited. The rice krispie treats were breakfast a couple of days. Some of the snacks game home and have been gracing my lunch box since we got home. And the pillow cases look really great on my bed!

Sunday morning brought more rain. Plan was to play mini golf after breakfast but we ended up changing the plan due to the rain. Sadly no mini golf this trip. But we did keep our breakfast at DS's only requested character meal - 'Ohana!

First up the fruit and my hot tea ....

The fruit was actually very disappointing. It tasted in a weird way like it had been frozen.

Next up ... the very best eggs on Disney property (IMHO) along with bacon, sausage, biscuits, potatoes and of course Mickey waffles!

We all really enjoyed breakfast but it took a really long time for the characters to cycle thru. Mickey, Pluto & Lilo came fairly quickly but we waited close to 45 minutes for Stitch.

Not a huge deal for us as we were going to EPCOT to deal with this ....

After spending time in a rainy Future World, we all wanted a snack so after Soarin' and the Living with the Land boat ride, we stopped for a snack at Sunshine Seasons ...

Strawberry Shortcake for Jay, Carrot Cake cupcake for Julia, specialty Orange cupcake for me and (I think) a coffee cake muffin with a banana for Andrew.

Inside of my very tasty cupcake .... this was actually a bit more lemony than orange-y.

Dinner was at Via Napoli. First up we split the fried platter of goodness ... aranchini, calamari, fried cheese and fried veggies ...

Andrew had his own order of the aranchini

All were very good. Not heavy or greasy. Nice, light crispy batter

Julia was chilly want wanted the tortellini soup .... she and I ended up sharing

Now before I posted my meal I have to say that I dream about the pizza here ... specifically the pizza with pepperoni, ham and olives. I have been coveting the thought of having this pizza for 15 months. So what did I order?

Yup. Spaghetti and meatballs. I am still wondering why. This was good, very good in fact. Just not what I really wanted.

Julia had the Quattro Formagi

She ate just about every bite and earned a "well done" from DS as it was really, really rich with all that cheese.

DH and DS split a medium sausage and pancetta

I did steal a slice and it was really good! Made me regret even more my dinner choice.

Of course we had to have the zeppolis for dessert ...

I seem to only have a close up of one covered in chocolatey goodness

VN is a must do every trip for this dessert alone!

After dinner we had our Illuminations Cruise ....

Not the best pic but no better way to see Illuminations!

As a bonus, the boats all went down to DHS in time to see the Frozen fireworks ....

Absolutely awesome! Jay and I actually caught them Sat night from our hotel room. Perfect view. Sunday night from the cruise and then Monday from in the Park. Disney did a really awesome job with this show.

Oh wow what a great day. The Grand Welcome was amazing, I especially like the pillows, they're very cute!

The SS cupcakes look yummy as does your VN meal and what a perfect end to the day :goodvibes

First, after my nephew's review and now yours, I'm really wanting to give Bongos a try. Next, your surprise gifts look awesome! What a fun surprise! :thumbsup2 As for Via Napoli...spaghetti??? Really Vicki? :lmao: And last, your Illuminations cruise looks like it was wonderful. It brings back memories of our Disney Divas cruise. That is something that I will always remember. :goodvibes

So, so many awesome things about your update. The hotel room magical gifts, the illuminations cruise & the food! I can totally tell you wanted to do WDW the best possible way & I love that. :figment: Ok so 1st of all, that orange cupcake looks delish!! I lovey, love orange flavors b/c they remind me of Florida, which reminds me of WDW. I'd have to try that,if they still have it. ::yes:: VN was a place I was uncertain about. I hesitated b/c I thought it was just a pizza, how could it be "that" good? Well, it is the best pizza I've ever tasted. So I'm gonna remember to get the zeppolis-no matter how full I am.

Your Bongo's meal looks great. After Barb's good review and now yours may have to give it a whirl. Though I did eat there when I was in college and all I recall was downing a pitcher of sangria all by myself. Shockingly that is all I remember ; )

Love the room spread for the kids. I can't believe how much it came with! Glad they loved it.

Still can't believe all the rain you all are experiencing. But at least you got out of it for one of my fav's too, Via Napoli. Though I can't believe you didn't have the pizza. I don't think I can ever pull myself away from its pure perfection!

You are having me convinced to add VN to our upcoming dining list. I really love the pics of the fireworks cruise, looks so magical.

All caught up! That rain really does change plans.....but we kept all our reservations regardless.....couldn't chance the $80 fee......lol Interesting that you didn't get charged.....I'm guessing if they didn't do it that day (or the next morning) that you won't be charged.

Agreed on our Divas cruise! As for Via Napoli - I know! I will be rectifying my mistake in about 190 days!

Yes on the pizza! We have a new brick oven pizza place in our town and the pizza is close, but not quite the same! And yes, I wanted our trip to be extra magical for DSGF!

Hmmm... would love a pitcher of sangria about now! From Bongos or VN!

Yes, you must go to VN!

Yeah, I don't expect to be charged at this point. Not sure why we weren't. Maybe the rain? Glad you made all of your plans! Loving your trip report!

Loving this!!! Signing in so I don't miss any of the fun (or food!!) :joker:

Welcome!

So Monday morning the weatherman said cloudy but only a slight chance of rain. OK! That we can deal with. We were off to DHS as I had booked us The Frozen Premium Package ...

As we were waiting to get in, the rain started. And I admit that I had a mini-pity-party-crying-breakdown. And then remember I was in WDW! So we trudged on. Unfortunately the Welcome Processional was rained out. We did catch a bit of it later in the week. So off to the Frozen Singalong!

I loved it! Even "Let it Go" which plays 3X a day on our music station at work!

After the show it was pouring. We had planned various QS snacks for lunch but it was just too miserable and wet. So I got on my phone and booked us an early lunch at Sci Fi.

The menu

Andrew and Julia both had milkshakes .... looks like chocolate

They also shared the onion rings but I don't seem to have a picture.

I tried the Sci-Fi Popcorn Treat - house-made popcorn soup with buffalo popcorn chicken and celery sticks drizzled with blue cheese dressing

The buffalo chicken was tasty but the soup was possibly one of the worst things I have ever tasted. The best I can describe is that it tasted faintly like the fake butter on movie popcorn. No corn taste at all. It was really awful.

Andrew and Jay both had the Build-Your-Own Angus Chuck Burger - on a brioche bun, flame-broiled beef patty topped wit your choice of the following: Swiss, cheddar, or American cheese, lettuce, tomato, jalapenos, caramelized onions, mushrooms, bacon, onion rings, or barbecue sauce

I know Andrew had the BBQ sauce & cheddar - not sure if anything else, probably jalapenos

Jay just had bacon & cheese

Julia and I both had the Smoked Turkey Sandwich - Smoked Turkey, crispy Bacon, Lettuce, and Vine-ripened Tomatoes with Avocado Mayonnaise on Multigrain Bread served with Cucumber Salad

I have to say that we were all disappointed with this meal. The turkey sandwich was pretty bland. The burgers not real hot and very processed tasting. We were glad Julia got to experience the "camp" of the movies but it will be a while before we go back.

After lunch we took some 'touristy' pics ....

... Had a must do meet & greet

Then were entertained by Olaf!

Somewhere along the way it finally stopped raining!

Still in disbelief from all the weather woe's your having. Hopefully some much deserved sun in on the way.

I can't get over that popcorn soup at SciFi. First, you found something I'd never heard of ; ) But second, there is no world in which that would work. Who knows what they were thinking.

Sorry your meal was a bust, but at least you got out of the rain.

Popcorn soup!? What in the world.. lol.

I'm glad Julia got to experience Sci Fi. The picture of she and Andrew with the milkshakes is really cute!

So sorry you ran into so much rain! I hope that the worst of it is behind you. Bongo's looked yummy but SciFi looked like a let down that is for sure.
Enjoying your report! :goodvibes

Wow.....Popcorn Soup, that doesn't even begin to sound good....... We did a dinner at Sci-Fi and really enjoyed it. Food hot & tasty, so we must have gone with the "A" team of chefs......lol

That darn rain.......I so feel that pain with you!!

Sorry your meal at Sci Fi was a bust :( That popcorn soup sounds disgusting :rotfl:

Looks like you all had a blast despite the big miss w/ sci-fi. Too bad b/c your turkey & cucumber salad looks amazing to me- Maybe a slice of avocado vs. the mayo would have been better.::yes::

I have had delicious corn soup in the past so I kinda thought it would be like that but no, not at all. It was awful. And yes, we had more rain than any of our previous trips for sure.

Popcorn soup!? What in the world.. lol.

Agreed. It is one place that was on our original planning list but was then removed. A plus of the rain that we added it back.

Thanks! Bongos was really good!

Yeah, you all had a ton of rain as well. Glad to hear your meal was better. Maybe ours was a fluke.

It really was!

Yes - avocado would have been wonderful!
