BAD BOYS BAD BOYS!! Undercover Security

Carolwoodpr, you and I are kinyard spirits. It is such a lovely feeling to be able to offer random strangers a good seat for a parade, more so if they have small children with them.

Thanks for sharing your experiences. For a second I thought you were talking about me when you told of the lady falling. A DISer happened to see me fall. No CM's nothing and even when I called to report the fall so that they could wipe up the water to avoid anyone else being hurt there was no reaction. A call to see if I was alright would have been nice. I was not going to sue because it had rained and I did not see the water.

Seems it matters who is around at the time as to what happens. Sure glad you were there for that lady.

I saw your post about slipping because of the crocs then someone chimed in saying crocs were not at fault. I was going to interject there because I was an avid crocs wearer myself. The second poster was half right. Crocs are NOT slippery. Until you have no more tread. Once you lose the tread it is like you are on ice when you step on anything wet. I live in Colorado where it is often wet, and I learned this quite painfully one year. So crocs themselves are fine to wear, but toss them when the tread is gone :)

And as for saving the bench, a CM 'caught' me. Two days in a row I ended up in the VIP section, and both days I saved the seat for someone else. It was the CM who asked if I saved it for someone 'worthy'. I had to laugh because that is exactly what I was doing. I start out saving it for my family. My son is 7, he would never sit for hours for a good seat. I don't expect any child of that age to sit for hours - it is miserable for them, and for the parents. But I do expect my son to be at the seat one hour before the fireworks, parade, whatever I am saving for. That is because any closer to the actual time it is very difficult to move in the crowds. Anyway, both days I was saving the bench I was able to give it to a young family with young kids. I told them to be there 1 hour before and the bench was theirs. Both families were so greatful, their smiles were worth it, and frankly with my back, I was going to be sitting there anyway.

Now, back on topic - as for the woman who did fall, I was able to find out that she was okay. Here knee was badly bruised as was her lip but nothing she had to go to the hospital for so that was nice.

Oh, and I did forget to mention this little incident that happened the same night. Two people snuck into VIP seating and security was there right away to escort them out.

I must also add that on our trip to WDW in October I will be looking for these 'tourist' security people.

Keep the stories coming because like others I am loving it!

When we were there last week we saw a K9 unit right outside of Peter Pan. We watched them walk towards Columbia Harbour House and stop on the other side. Two guys came from over by the Haunted Mansion line, talked to the uniformed officer with the K9 for a few minutes and then the uniformed officer and K9 went back and inbetween PP and CHH (where the restrooms are). Don't know what happened after that, but the two guys that came out of the HM area were dressed like tourists--but were obviously UC guys. That makes me feel a lot safer knowing they are there!!

Even if had not rained why would you sue? Isn't there some personal responsibility left in this world?

Forgive me for asking, but what makes the Disney undercover security so cool? Their job is just like any other undercover security. Undercover are all over stores everywhere. Again, forgive me for asking, but it is a job :confused3

My dream is to retire for Florida and work for Disney. I would move there and work there now if the money was right.

Because they "blend in" with the crowds, and when something goes wrong they "swoop down and bestow Peace, Harmony, and Safety" among the guests! THIS is why they are COOL!:thumbsup2

Ok these are moments where I was thinking WHERE IS SECURITY?
We always seem to witness the strangest and most bizarre incidents everywhere we go. These are three that I vividly remember from our recent Disney trips.
The first two happened in 2008 and I believe I have posted these before awhile ago.

Number 1
We are waiting in line for Muppet Vision 3D and a little girl probably around 8 puts her head on her brother shirt probably around 15. He slaps her across the face and says "what did I tell you about touching my shirt." The little girl started crying it was terrible.

Number 2
As we where leaving Epcot around 9.pm. I little boy around 2 years old drops his water bottle. The mom slapped him and threw him up against a bench we were terrified along with others but didn't know what to do. There were no CM's around. We all keep walking and we are pretty far away and we hear yelling again and her a bang the kid dropped his water bottle again and she threw him up against the bench AGAIN:scared1:. It was so unbelievable anyone could do this to their child! I wish I had done something but didn't know what to do.

The 3rd incident is by far the worst and went on for awhile this was August 2009 and this all happened without any security or CM's stopping it. It seems hard to believe but it is 100% true.

As we where exciting Buzz in tomorrow land and headed to the front gate for a dinner at Narcoosseeswhen we hear a woman yelling at her daughter who was probably 12. The girl wanted to go on the buzz ride which had obviously upset the mother for some reason. She started to yell at her for wanting to go on the ride she pushes her daughter on the ground grabs her by the hair and bangs her face into the pavement. The girl is crying and trying to get up and the mom pushes her down again and tells her to stop crying :confused3 when she gets up the mom drags her by the ear while yelling at her in Spanish i think? to the rest of their family probably about 10 others on the way the mom pushes her down again no one in her family helps her they just keep walking acting as if everything is normal. The mom keeps yelling at her hitting her as they exit tomorrow land. Some onlookers look like they are about to intervene when the mom eventually stops after what seemed like ages. If this mother does this to her child in front of everyone in tomorrow land I can not imagine what goes on at home. Myself and Disney dad witnessed the whole thing while the rest of our party was completely oblivious and kept walking toward mainstreet. My Dis dad was about to help the little girl but the mom finally stopped. It shook us up for awhile.

It is moments like these when I am just not sure what to do and how to help people in need and I am curious if anyone knows a phone number for Disney security?

"If you see something suspicious, dial 911" (Boston's mayor Thomas M. Menino.)
(Sound byte replayed often on the Howie Carr show, WRKO, Boston)

(added later) Oops, forgot to size up what happens after security finishes excoriating or berating or lambasting the same-family miscreant and goes on to the next assignment.

I do know a few police officers who have gone to Disney and the undercover security guys approached and asked if they were carrying their "off duty" pistol (department policy requires them to do so unless consuming alcohol while off duty). Appearantly the undercover security guys have been trained to spot the outline of a concealed pistol under a shirt (or they know what a police officer looks like off duty :rotfl:), so if they ask you to raise your shirt this is probably what they are looking for. Disney was polite and asked them to place their guns in a locker until they left the park.

I wouldn't doubt they know what a police officer looks like off duty.

I do.

I'm the daughter of a Federal Policeman and the SIL of a city policeman. I can spot a cop from a mile away because . . . well, they all carry themselves just like my dad. :cutie: The majority of the time I can tell you if they are actually carrying or not.

LOL Course, now it makes it sound like I think I have a "gift." :rotfl:

:)

I read this thread when it first started and told my mom about it so next trip we can be on the look out.
Well last weekend we went down to an amusement park in Oklahoma called Frontier City. We were on a bench having a snack and I looked up and a guy in a polo and shorts walked by. Hanging from his ear was one of those clear wires. I nudge my mom and pointed to my ear and she looked at him and we started laughing, sharing our inside joke. He went over and started talking to some kids that looked like the were up to no good and escorted the kids away. So my mom and I got our practice in for our next trip when we can play hidden security instead of hidden mickeys.

Yes, I am wondering about a number to call.
These reports of child abuse are seriously making me feel sick, but am I going to take on a group of 10? No.

I'm hoping a CM will chime in here to tell us what do do if we witness this behavior, but, in the mean time, next time I see a uniformed security officer at WDW, I'm going to ask him or her what to do/who to call.

Any of the other shenanigans that go on are, in my opininon, in another category. But, child abuse? We absolutely must find out how to safely intervene there.

Having done this type of work for years for other companies, I think people on the outside find it interesting because they often don't understand what we do or why there is a need for it until they are witness to it or thrust into the middle of it. When you look at Disney or your local retailer or local amusement park most people are so tied up in the experience that the don't think about what is being done to keep that experience safe. Once people realize that their are actually people "getting paid to do that" they are often fascinated by the work and entertained by what we do even when we consider it routine.

I am glad to know the work is being done by professionals and will be even happier if I don't need to witness it!

I would be very interested in this info as well.
It does seem to be more common everywhere, not just at WDW; I'm not talking about a swat on the rump now and then (please let's not start a debate about this being right or wrong, JMO), but often see severe abuse, by parents, siblings, and I have even seen a older child beating up on her parent.
How can we intervene, safely for all? (including me)

In April standing in line waiting on AK to open there was a k-9 unit walking around and thru the lines letting the dog sniff everyone...not sure if they were practicing or if that is normal now...hadn't seen it before...he was wearing a vest that warned not to approach or try to pet him-the dog not the human :-)

This one?

I've never seen that happening before, and I wondered if they'd gotten a tip, or if it was a regular occurence.

Gosh, that is horrible. I never witnessed any physical abuse at the parks but one day we were eating at Pizzafari in the screened in area and outside was a man yelling and screaming at his son for about 10 minutes and its not like this guy didn't know we could hear him:confused3 The son was crying as this guy was berrating him, at one point the kid was crying "You're hurting my feelings, stop yelling at me." It brought tears to my eyes and my DD(3) asked why the boy was crying. What do you say to that?

I've read that getting involved yourself in an abuse situation is a bad idea, because the abuser will take it out on the child later for "embarrassing" them.:rolleyes1 Probably the best thing to do is call 911 or get security. I believe I've read that if you call 911, Disney security will be the first to respond anyway.
