    If you could retire early...

I could quit working tomorrow, and do OK, but would have to be on tighter budget, and wouldn't be able to help my daughter out as much as I'd like in the future (she's 14 now--so college, car, etc on the horizon). If I continue working "just" 8 more years, I'll retire at 57 (government) with...

The Intersection of FIRE and Disney

I don't necessarily think 80% stocks in retirement is aggressive, since I'd have a pension & social security that will cover all my necessary expenses if needed. I would also have one years worth of living expenses parked in easy to reach stuff like CD's or money markets, so if the market did...

What's The Biggest Secret You've Ever Kept?.

Who the parents are for an adopted kid. The kid isn't mine, and I think they should be told, but it's not my place to tell them so I respect the adoptive parents wishes. The kid is now 26 years old, and all the adults knew, so it wasn't "secret" in that respect.

Anyone else into collecting Hallmark ornaments?

I used to buy a few every year, until I realized the Christmas tree had mostly decorations that were not Christmas related, and I had more than what I could put on the tree. Now, I have to REALLY like it to add to the collection.

Anyone here ever own or owned a time share

Yes, several. Happy enough with them. All bought resale for very little & I mostly knew what I was getting & it all fit with what I wanted. I take my sister & her family & we vacation together most years for 1 week. It's been great and our kids get to know each other better.

    Do you jiggle your leg?

Of course! Doesn't everybody? Mine is worse after I drink coffee, or am excited about something but have to sit still. And it's usually just my right leg.

SOLVED: With apologies - need help with HBO app

So I pulled up amazon prime on my phone, and HBO is showing under my channels, and will play just fine. Have you tried deleting the app & then reinstalling? If amazon couldn't help you, not sure what all else anyone can offer.

The Intersection of FIRE and Disney

Honestly, at 6 years left, you're paying mostly principle at this point. You can see how your mortgage breaks down every month, but I'd imagine the interest part of it isn't all that much. That's all you'd be "saving" if you paid off your house early. At 3.25 interest rate, I'd suggest just...

The Intersection of FIRE and Disney

I always calculated my net worth when I was married by just my numbers... they call it an IRA not MRA (for Married), LOL. It was just easier, as I had all my account info & took about 5 minutes to update #'s every month. Since it was just to show progress for me it didn't really matter, just...

Payroll tax “holiday.” Is your company going to do it? Can you decline?

I work for the federal government, and yesterday we were told all are doing it (civilian & military) and cannot opt out. I can't begin to state how I feel about not being allowed to opt out of this stupid crazy plan....

What are your go-to streaming services for content?

too many... amazon prime, netflix, HBO (thru Amazon), comedy central (thru amazon), disney plus, crunchyroll (anime for my daughter), and tubi (free with just a few commercials). Still paying way less than our old cable bill & mostly no commercials & shows I want to watch (vs. endless...

As a school child , did you relish or dread returning to school after summer?

I loved my summers. Always something to do--we had an above ground pool so could always swim, ride horses, explore the 15 acres my parents owned (and there were basically no neighbors behind & to the side of us--something like 80 acres of undeveloped land), plenty of books to read, movies to...

Any fans of the tv show Supernatural out there?

I watched to the season where they were going to end it a couple years ago. And they had the best viewer #'s ever, so they decided to continue it. So now I feel like they want to ride the show down to the bottom, vs. going out on top. I'm trying to catch back up, but man, it's hard. I just...

The Intersection of FIRE and Disney

Does anyone else keep a list of goals? Most of mine are financial based, although I've got some fitness/weight goals too. I've had my "top ten" (usually closer to 20 items) since at least 2009. I've got short term, middle, and long range goals. It's funny (sometimes sad) to read some of my...

The Intersection of FIRE and Disney

I don't think it's nuts to buy DVC, as long as you know/want what you're getting. But, are you talking buying resale or from developer? Resale will NOT get the discounts available to those who buy their points directly from Disney (like annual passes). To get those membership discounts, you...

The Intersection of FIRE and Disney

I wish everyone who is pursuing FIRE the best of luck. I'm endlessly fascinated by it, I know others can & have achieved it, but I don't think I could pull it off. I've got the funds, but not the gumption to stick to a budget each & every year. I guess I'd just prefer to keep my salary & help...

Do You Consider Yourself a Feminist?

Here's a couple of examples I know for how it's different for a man vs. a woman: I own a property in Louisiana (rental property). I paid the down payment, did the contract work to get it transferred to me, etc. and added my husband, because, well, we were married & it was a shared property...

Things on TV shows that bug you....

I've got lots. Geniuses in every whodunit type show. Hackers that can log into the most secure databases & find maps/floor plans/change the world with a few clicks. The systems I have passwords for don't work that smoothly. EVER. Dead bodies that don't pile up but instead magically...

    eBay question /on vacation

For e-bay, you just have to end your items, or risk late shipping. Sorry, but you deserve the late shipping dings for this. Eventually they fall off, after a year I believe. AND, if you sell more & ship on time, then the late ones are diluted. Vacations are a pain in this respect... I...

Anyone purchase a vacation home in Kissimmee?

I doubt it's a good investment, but I don't own there. Since I doubt that you live locally, you'll have to have someone manage it. Costs would be around 10% for that, taxes & insurance for the property can run high, and you'll have to pay for cleaning the property between each renter. And...
