Bag check guard opened wallet

After all security is for everyone else??? The guards should know that "you" are perfectly safe.

Sorry, but they get to open your wallet and anything else you carry around. There's no 'wallet" exemption. If you don't want it being seen then don't bring it .

As for liability??? you are standing right there LOL! If you can't keep an eye on what they are doing may I suggest you have too much stuff!

Sooooooo you'd rather trust crazy people, suicidal, homicidal, terrorists, etc, etc. (I know I'll get flamed for all that and yes it was different options not one lump sum)
But not a security guard because he or she could also be a magician. Ok then.

Who said anything about trusting crazy people, suicidal, homicidal, terrorists?

I wouldn't trust them obviously, but back on topic, I don't trust security guards--or anyone else--rifling through my cash.

If they want me to pull it out and show it to them, no problem. But I'm not trusting their fingers inside my money.

People still wear cargo shorts? :P

More things get stolen from security in airports than they actually stop contraband. Look it up some time. And if there was a crazy, suicidal, homicidal terrorist plotting nefarious things, they'd just do the crazy, suicidal, homicidal terroristic things at the checkpoint instead of in the park. And they would hide a knife in their shoe or pocket instead of a bag that's obviously being searched.

Airport security does NOT open anyone's wallet. In fact, you do not have to remove your wallet from your purse or backpack. The entire thing goes through the xray machine. A wallet is not a bag. A wallet is also very easily identified. If you all want someone pawing through your credit cards, bank cards and money then go for it. Not going to happen without my express permission and ME handling MY wallet. I just went through 4 levels of security in the Istanbul airport and no one opened my wallet even when they did a hand search of all bags. They have real terrorists and don't care about my money.

Security at LAS (Las Vegas) and ATL (Atlanta) both took me aside and searched my bags. They opened my wallet, took everything out and placed it on the table... so yea, if they want they'll open your wallet, and they don't have to ask permission.

I've had wallets, cosmetic bags, glasses cases, tampon boxes .....
All kinds of everything opened.

Even completely see through bags-I've unzipped when it's been extremely visible what's inside.

Maybe I just look dodgy- as the very rare occasion I've gone bag less-I've been randomly selected:rolleyes1

Funny stuff!

My husband and I just unzip EVERYTHING and have it ready for inspection. I agree that asking to open the wallet would have been appreciated, but I also have to ask how long the lines were and if he was just trying to "move it along". A woman ahead of me had to open her little zippered mirror the other day at AK, but she was asked to do it. I'm not sure what the security guard was expecting to be hiding in it, but he checked it out. The levels of search go up and down and I have a feeling it could very well coincide with any heightened security warnings. This is our world. Get used to it. The only other solution....bring the absolute minimum. I envy anyone who can walk into ANY park without a bag of any kind.

Wait...why would the guard ASK to open the zippers?? You can't refuse anyway (and still be granted entrance). the answer to "Can you/I open that zipper?" is ALWAYS "Yes" or else you don't get to go in. So why ask? To assuage feelings? Ain't nobody got time for that. Not with 20,000 people waiting to get in.

Right?

You don't have to let them search. You don't have to go to the park. But if you do you play by Their rules. And probably as soon as you started pitching a fit they would get nervous and really examine everything. They would want to know why you were so paranoid about what you were trying to sneak in

I hate To break this news to you but if you are selected for a full search by the TSA they will and can open everything you have including your wallet.

You do you have a choice people, you don't have to go to the park or get on a plane if you don't want to be subject to the rules. But the rules do you allow them to open everything you have with you. There's no wallet exception or diaper bag exception or whatever you came up with that you don't think they should look at. When you to hold the Item and control the search makes it easy for you to try to hide something. Do you really want a terrorist to be able to have stuff so you can protect your cash from a risk you made up?

And If something happens those of you screaming about Disney looking in your wallet will be all over them for failing to do a good job.

If you don't think explosives to cause major damage could be in a wallet you need to do some research.

I expect that most of this is. "they should know I'm safe and not bother me but anyone who looks like a terrorist should be searched in detail".

Who said anything about "pitching" a fit? I would ask them to take their hands off my money and allow me to handle it in however they deem necessary to know that isn't a cover for some sort of weapon. If that's considered paranoid, so be it. I just don't want to be ripped off.

Disney security guards are not the TSA. I don't know what screening procedures they've been put through to obtain their jobs, and I don't want anybody pawing through my money.

A stranger shuffling through my cash is a risk. And I'm not making anything up. There have been plenty of news reports about TSA agents stealing cash and valuables from travelers--probably more of those cases than actual terror attacks in the US.

There are ways to search items like wallets that do not involve human beings who may or may not have sticky fingers. It is not unreasonable to ask that your cash not be handled by them.

Most times we've passed through bag check - they announce at various times to please open all zipper compartments.

I once had to take a tiny camera out of a small zippered camera bag for them (already un zippered) - 'no' place to hide anything - but again their rights!

Really doesn't bother me - I only take $5-10 in the parks anyway as a 'back up' - seldom use it.

Just be happy they're not patting you down and having you empty your pockets like at a concert.

I do not mind going through metal detectors, I am fine with opening my small bag I carry, and I don't mind being wanded, but I really do not like this pat down nonsense I have been running into lately. I do not like being touched, and really do not want some strange person putting their hands on me. Last year, at the Allentown fair, they didn't have people patting down, but the year before, they did, and I told them I was fine with them looking through my stuff, but I didn't want anyone touching me, and they did let me just go through. Going to see Kiss at Allentown in a couple of days, so I'm hoping there won't be any issues.

I did have to get patted down at the airport a couple of times, wasn't happy about it, but I was prepared for that possibility. Definitely didn't think when I go to see a show or concert, I'd have to deal with some stranger touching me.

As far as the OP is concerned, I have had security at bag check open my tiny wallet, and little camera pouch that was in my bag while at WDW, and never thought anything about it.

She needs to talk to her doctor and to contact the manufacturer of her pacemaker to make sure skipping those detectors is necessary.

As I stated, She has. Since they've installed the detectors at airports she's been repeatedly told from her cardiologist to skip it and opt for the pat down, and has written documentation *from the doctor* stating that.

She's been told via phone and in writing by Disney security management that if she gets pulled for random screening to ask for a manual pat down, yet at the gates she gets turned back because of her refusal to go through the metal detectors.

I don't like that we've come to a point where all this security is needed but at the same time my wallet being unzipped (with or without my verbal permisson) isn't something to get me riled up especially when I know all my items being brought in are subject to being searched.

All I can say is that you all are a trusting bunch of people. If I had a lot of cash in my wallet, I would be very uncomfortable with a security guard going through my wallet. Sleight of hand is not that difficult to learn.

It's one thing for a guard to go through your bag where you have items like combs, lipstick and breath mints. It's a whole other ball of wax when we are talking about a guard handling your valuables.

We are the bunch of trusting people ? I am thinking bringing a lot of cash to a theme park with thousands of people from all walks of life is a terrible idea. I think the security guards would be the last of your worries after all there is going to be tons of cameras by the guards now the other hundreds of people not so much. That is why there is safes in your room.

Right?

Not ask if the security guard can open, they should ask the owner to open the zipper and show them what's inside.

Honestly I would have been surprised to have a guard do this as I haven't ever known them to do that before. And I still maintain Disney also should want their security to follow the protocol of asking the guest to open anything that appears to be a wallet. Their setting themselves up by not doing that.
