PizzeRizzo opens this fall!

I'm with LOL on this one....I found Via Napoli pizza was very overated. In fairness we only tried it once, but it wasn't good enough to get me back there a second time. Wolfgang Pucks is actually the best pizza I've had at WDW.

As far as fast food pizza which is what this place is...I just ask for it to be edible which would be a step up from the place it's replacing.

I haven't had Wolfgang puck pizza. Of course that is in Disney Springs which is also getting Blaze pizza later this summer. Pizza in the parks is what seems to be lacking but I do enjoy Via Napoli. Everyone has their own pizza preferences and Via Napoli fulfills mine. Someone like my dad however didn't like Via Napoli as much as he prefers a very thin, very well cooked pizza with only Italian sausage. It just all depends on the person.

Pucks pizza is better for the price.

Via Napoli is not bad...it's just what a lot of food at WDW gets: too much praise at a relatively high price.

Its like yachtmans and Le cellier to me...not nearly worthy the price for average taste

Rizzo seems like a very minor character in the Muppet pantheon to me. Not that I'm an expert.

Does he have some association with cooking or pizza, or did they pick him because his Italian sounding name allows them to retool P. Planet with only cosmetic changes?

Aren't you a bit surprised that there's a muppet tie in at all?

The two recent movies didn't effectively reboot the franchise...And the show bombed.
They keep trying to get mileage out of muppets and it hasn't worked since hensons death.

I believe in The Muppets Take Manhattan - Rizzo and his family run a restaurant or work in a restaurant - I don't remember exactly - which I'm pretty sure is what they are basing the restaurant on. It's really the first time Rizzo had a major role in the Muppets - and he subsequently took on a pretty big role. (Though not in the first new Muppet movie (The Muppets) where he barely appeared.)

Having a muppet rat running a restaurant is pretty on-point, even though Remy did it better later.

My comment I came to post is wondering if the restaurant will be open by October when we are there. I am thinking it is unlikely. Lately when Disney announces something for a season - it's usually right at the end of the season. My guess is they will try and get it open for Thanksgiving. (Though I suspect holiday attendance for DHS will be way down with no Osborne Lights.)

Oh, and I think Via Napoli pizza is pretty good, but don't know that I would use great. It's a very good wood-fired pizza. It really all depends on the style you prefer, I could see those that really like it.

What I don't get is anyone thinking any other pizza on property is any good. It may or may not be true, but I guess I always figured that people that like Disney pizza come from areas of the country that don't have good pizza. This is the same theory I have as to how Little Caesar's and Domino's stay in business - well that and that when you are in college, cheap trumps taste.

The first one did, it was it's follow up that didn't succeed

Funny thing is I thought the second was just as "good" as the first...

The first had better talent - maybe (Amy Adams is worth the price of glorious, red headed admission....

...
......um - where was I?)

But the movie itself was pretty much telegraphed reboot (I can think of a recent sci Fi flick that I've watched recently at home that is really playing out that way with time)...and was almost too short...which is rare.

The muppets fit that weird John Denver, Gordon lightfoot dominated niche of the late 70's/early 80's of pre technology...then got some good legs for kids with fraggle and muppet babies in the 80's...

But I don't think it really translates. In 20 years only senior citizens will be fond of the muppets.

Like lawrence welk ;)

Again...our brains are way too close to frequency. You nailed it.

I don't think it's a theory...it's almost scientific fact.

If you had throw the wretched papa johns on there as well...it would have been the closest I've ever come to 100% agreeing with you or anyone On here.

Even when the rumors started it was always supposed to stay a pizza place. The kitchen is getting renovated and that kitchen is shared by Mama Melrose. I don't expect Disney quick service pizza to be the best pizza on the planet. If you want good pizza go to via Napoli at Epcot or trattoria al forno at the boardwalk.

Right on!!

Our family loves pizza planet. We never went there expecting gourmet pizza. How silly to expect quality food for $12 in a Disney quick service restaurant. ;)

$12 is not a lot of money...for sure.

And some things at Disney parks aren't good.
The funnel cakes are awful...the hot dogs at caseys aren't good either...
That "meaty macaroni" they have on the kids menu ain't very good...

But part of the reputation...and the prices...at Disney parks are built on the perception that they took "amusement park food" to a new level and nobody can touch them there.

So I'm not gonna give a "pass" because my wallet has never gotten one anywhere else outside of pizza planet.

What about the Sesame Street crowd? Do kids still watch Sesame Street? They should at least know who Kermit is.

Sesame Street is still on however Kermit is not on Sesame Street. Elmo is still big and recognized by kids across America.

Though even here - where we have some pretty excellent pizza - there's still Pizza Pizza, and Papa John's - so I think there is some appeal to "cheap" when it comes to pizza. But I really don't get it - and I am not one that normally rally's against the quality of food at Disney - I think most QS is above average theme park food, some of it is quite good to excellent, and most of the TS restaurants are of good enough quality in my view. Even Tony's, which we tried for the first time was quite tasty, though again not compared to a really fine Italian restaurant - but again for a theme park sit-down restaurant, plenty good enough.

However, Disney pizza is just terrible. Our DD on some trips (when she was about 7) would order it everywhere - and it was just so, so bad. bread not crust, bad flavorless sauce, and thin cheese, ugh.

I like the comparison to Star Wars (and Jurassic World) - The first new Muppet movie was definitely made to recall an earlier time. The second one I didn't think was quite as good - but also really designed to parallel the great muppet caper.

I always thought that the Muppets having a network television show that requires high national ratings were never going to work - they simply won't be mainstream enough. However, I think there is PLENTY of places that they COULD work in this world of niche marketing. I didn't understand why they didn't go onto ABCFamily/Freeform, where the 1.5 million viewers would've been a rating boom. I could really see what you say - the Muppets disappear completely.

But that's whats odd about all this - they clearly knew the TV show wasn't doing well, yet are moving ahead with this as well as the rumored Muppets in Liberty Square attraction. It makes you think they still have plans for the Muppets - but it also could be incompitence on Disney's part as one division phases them out - another starts increasing their prominence.

I agree that the traditional QS round pizzas aren't good but I've found the newer flat breads to be pretty good. But that's my pizza preference, super thin crispy crust.

Kermit used to still make appearances back in the day. Of course that day is long gone. ;)

As for the Muppets show, it's hard to say what exactly went wrong there. The ratings started high and fell off but I wonder if it would have happened no matter how they portrayed the Muppets? I watched hoping for the old show and didn't like the changes. Would the old style have worked?

I think the problem for me was we didn't try Via Napoli for the first time until 2014 and after years of seeing everyone on DIS ranting and raving about it I was expecting to have the best pizza I have ever eaten in my life. Obviously with those expectations I was greatly disappointed. But you are correct, it is "ok". The Pucks pizza I actually enjoyed, but I had no expectations going in. Any other pizza I've had at WDW is basically the equivalent of frozen microwave pizza.

I actually enjoy Le Cellier and feel it gets a bad wrap on DIS because everyone is angry about the 2 credits. I admittedly don't eat out much and extreme hunger after a long day at EPCOT could play a factor on my taste buds...lol.

I will give you that, my DD had a flatbread at the Poly last year - and it was quite good. Definitely an improvement!

We never went to pizza planet. In fact, the only pizza we've had on property was during our last trip when the kids ordered a pepperoni pizza at POR. I was wondering if that was the same pizza as all of the QS on site.
