Disney Wonder - Galveston to San Jaun - January 20, 2017

LOL, Coconut vendors will be a over the place, especially in the touristy areas.

The Bacardi factory tour has always been free to the public. The last time I went I took my husband three years ago. What we did was we drove there and went to the visitors area/ shop. We checked in and they checked ID. once they did that they hand each visitor three tickets. While your waiting for your tram to come pick you up there is the store and a sitting area with a bar under a pivallion. You take your tickets over to the bar and you have your choice of adult drinks you can try. It's better to have one while you wait, then the rest when you get back (You get a basic mixology class during the tour, that way you can try something that you like)

Once the tram gets there you go over the the visitors area. Watch a video go thru the history and mixology class. Then you get back on the tram and go back to the pavallion. It's a really nice tour and the drinks are really good.

Another place to go to try so rum is the Don Q tour which is in old San Juan.

Bring walking shoes and water! You will need it!!!
Thank you for the info!!!
Could you give and address or location for the Don Q tour. Also, what are some must try dining locations in Old San Juan. We will be staying there for one night, and are excited about the chance to try new foods.

P.S.
I know the standard DH, DD, and DS, what does KH stand for?
And are you the firefighter or your husband? My husband used to be a firefighter when we lived in California. He tried to get on here in Texas, but the demand for firefighters when we moved was considerably lower than those that were interested (around 200 people showed up for the test portion of the first stage of applying in San Antonio, and there were only 8 openings).

Try this link:

As for the food it all depends on what you really want to try. You have a bit of everything in old San Juan.

Just tell me what you are looking for to eat and I can help you out.

As for the DH and KH it our initals for our names.

My husband and I our both firefighters. We work for the airports authority in Washington DC.

I will check out the link. And as for food, I have heard great things about the pork, and we love avocados and coconut. Aside from that, I have seen some very interesting fruits that we do not get up here.

I never would have guessed initials, and that is probably one of the most obvious things.
I have always thought of DH as Disney Husband, DW as Disney Wife, DS as Disney Son, DD as Disney Daughter, and so on. I was corrected on our last cruise when we were talking about abbreviations however. I was told that the capital D stands for Darling. Your way works to though.

Both firefighters, how neat. I hope you have the same shift, otherwise you may never get to see one another. And if y'all start talking fire with my husband, I would be utterly lost, and would have to entertain myself for the next several hours. LOL.

51 Weeks!!!!!!!

In 51 weeks we will be in Galveston, settling into our hotel.
In 51 weeks + 1 day, we will be boarding the Wonder to set sail to paradise.

Another way to look at it (but it doesn't sound as good ) is 358 days.
The only reason I bring that up, is because it is so much more lyrical.
:rolleyes1"358 days 'till we sail,
358 days,
You take one down, pass it around.....":rolleyes1
(by the way I was singing that to 100 bottles of beer on the wall, in case anyone missed that!!!)

Pork is awesome!!! Pork is in everything. Coconut is in a lot of desserts. The main meal we have when I'm visiting family is white rice and beans with a side salad and meat. :lovestruc Lol.. I just thought the initials will be simpler.

As for the same shift for my husband and I not happening. It works out that we are on different shifts. As for firefighter talk, you won't be lost. I try not to talk about it when I'm off. lol... So you can talk to me.

Are you making a magnet out of this?
Not sure, it would be a cute one.
I am hoping we can maybe pick one as a group, and then maybe we could each make a magnet from the design.
Or, maybe it would be a good FE. ......Hum.....Thanks for the idea!

Sorry to hear that y'all are on different shifts, but am glad to hear we can talk while the boys talk.
There are 2 places we are thinking about going in Old San Juan. I will look them up again tomorrow and see what you think about them.

The 2 places that we are thinking about trying are The Parrot Club, and Barrachina.
Are they any good? Any recommendations?

Both are very good! I have eaten at the parrot club and its beautiful inside and the food awesome! Some other good places to eat are cafe manolin, casa Lola, pani agua in the plaza de armas, and you can always go to piñones if your feeling adventurous. Piñones is a bar, club, vendor area and is a cash only area. It's doesn't open up till lunch time, but it has a beautiful view and is close to the beach.

If your staying more than a couple of days you could go to vieques, its an island off the coast, you have to take a ferry over, but is beautiful swimming and different sights.

Ponce is another favorite place of mine. It's a little more laid back and country compared to San Juan.

One place I'm going to try and go to this time around is Mayaguez. It's great surfing and beautiful there. I really want to take my husband around the whole island. It takes about three to four hours.

Just be in before school lets out. Because the roads in San Juan and the surrounding cities and towns get really crazy!!!

Hi everyone. Missed posting my Happy Monday this week. It was tax day, and I was buried under receipts!!!
I wanted to share some info with everyone (in case they missed it) that Disney had recently posted about the Zika Virus:

Zika Virus Alert for Caribbean Cruisers On January 22, 2016 Disney Cruise Line posted the following travel alert:

--------

As you may be aware, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has recently issued a travel alert for travelers to specific countries in the Caribbean and Latin America due to the Zika virus, a mosquito related illness. The precautions recommended by the CDC are similar to those to prevent other mosquito borne illnesses like dengue fever, chikungunya, and West Nile virus and include wearing long-sleeved shirts and long pants and using insect repellents containing DEET to avoid mosquito bites. While the most common symptoms are usually mild and include fever, rash, joint pain and pink eye, pregnant women should pay special attention to the travel alert and take necessary precaution to avoid mosquito bites. Additional information can be found under the Travelers Health section of the CDC website at http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices. As a result of this travel alert, clients who are pregnant may wish to modify their cruise reservation. An email will be sent to Travel Agents or Guests who have bookings that are affected by this travel alert.

--------

As of January 28, 2016 the CDC list of affected destinations in the Caribbean Basin included the following early 2016 DCL destinations: Barbados, Martinique, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Saint Martin/Sint Maarten, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Situations like this are always subject to change, so be sure to visit the CDC web site for the latest information http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices

Follow up to previous post.
There is no need to stress, just plan ahead, and be prepared for preventing mosquito bites on the trip.
We always pack bug bands (they are either sports bands, stretch spring like wrist bands, or snap on wrist bands), and peppermint spray when we are traveling anywhere there may be biting insects. You should be able to find the bug bands for sale the closer we get to summer (especially in Texas). I have seen them for sale at Wal Mart, Home Depot, Groupon, and Academy. One band per person should last the length of the trip, and these little things do a good job at keeping the bugs away.
As for the peppermint spray (or essential oils), we use this as an extra protection (plus it smells good). I am not sure why, but the peppermint smell keeps the bugs away as well.
Last year we took a cruise that went to Belize and Cozumel. There was a travel warning for illness caused by mosquitoes then also. We used our bands and peppermint spray (even on our Jungle Buggy adventure), and did not have any problems.

Are any of you guys on the Disney Cruising site on FB? Well I tried to let other fellow cruisers know about this page and they deleted my comment with the link saying I am violating there rules of the page sharing this link. All I was trying to do was to share with them our FE group etc. and I feel you guys are so informative. It really annoyed me. I even tried to tell them to PM me for the link and they deleted that too. Oy vey....

I am sorry to hear that.:(
I know that DIS has policies about not promoting FB, because people were miss using the discussion threads (I think it was like FB promoters, and travel agencies or something). But I don't think FB has a policy about DIS. Maybe (unfortunately), the people in that group have had a bad experience with DIS, and you happened to be the victim of their bad experience.
I am not a member of the FB group, but someone else in the group maybe.
On past cruises, we have had people that were part of both, and others that had very strong opinions about FB or DIS, and chose to only be part of one or the other group. I guess we are looking at the same type of situation.
Thanks for trying to get the word out about the FE though.
