I really want to know!!! Cancel your cruise because of the new policy.

Would you cancel a DCL cruise because of the new Alcohol carry on policy?

you are not going to find any cruise line out there that has a better deal.

I strongly disagree. Because of the ruckus started over the carry on policy, I've read many posts that have spoken very highly of other cruise lines, their policies and their prices. My wife and I are true, hard core Disney fans, but after taking a look at what others have recommended, we have already decided upon two cruises over the next year and neither one is DCL. One cruise is 55% of a comparable Disney Cruise, and the second is even less. Taking into consideration what's being offered, additional costs that will be accrued and overall value. Yes, there are plenty of cruise lines out there that have a better deal. Will I cruise DCL again? Hopefully, but the comparative costs make it difficult to commit.

So for maybe what? 50-100 bucks, one would cancel a trip because of booze, I still see an issue here with this...budgeting or not! I'm guessing if your that tight for money in the first place, carnival cruise maybe a better choice for you. Just saying....

I've seen that type of response so often in these boards when the two sides of the carry on policy are debated and I find it disturbing every time. Nothing as wonderful as someone saying, "If you find it financially difficult, but doable, to take a Disney cruise, then maybe you should consider a Carnival cruise, instead." I'm in that financially difficult category and we're still going to celebrate my son's completion of chemotherapy for leukemia. I apologize in advance if you still feel that, because of our financial status, we should forgo a Disney cruise and pick a cheaper competitor, instead.

Sorry, my message wasn't clear. I would not cancel a cruise or not book a Disney cruise because of this policy change.

Thanks for your recommendation of Carnival, but no thanks.

If you cancel because of the BYOB policy, you are not going to find any cruise line out there that has a better deal.
It is what it is.

I booked on Royal Caribbean a couple weeks ago and plan on getting the drink package. I consider that a much better deal than what my Disney cruise I canceled would have been. With the drink package added, our cruise on RC will still be cheaper than Disney - then I would have to buy drinks on top of that. One of my reasons for justifying my 4 Disney cruises in the past was their generous BYOB policy. That helped me justify some of the price difference. I can't do that now. I am using it in the opposite way for Royal Caribbean. I can justify purchasing their drink package, because in the end it will still be cheaper than Disney. Now instead of having a couple drinks in the room before heading down for dinner, we will go to a bar on board and have those drinks. In the end, I think I will be much happier with that option. I will know for sure in March.

On Princess I can bring all the wine I need for an entire cruise and pay around $75-$120 in corkage fees. So, yes, there are other options. But not for hard liquor.

$50-$100?
If I take a bottle of wine that I paid $100 for, and pay the corkage that Princess charges, ($15), my total sunk cost for that wine is $115. If DCL were to have that bottle on their wine list, (which is highly doubtful), they would sell it to me for $300-$350. So my savings for that one bottle would be $185-$235 if I were to be able to bring it on board. So assume that I am on a 10 day cruise. DCL let's me bring on 4 bottles, (two for me, two for my wife). I can drink those 4 bottles and then have to buy off of Disney's list 6 times. Each time I buy off of their list, I spend $185-$235 more than I would have spent if I were drinking my own wine. That savings, times 6 nights, is $1,100-$1,410. No. I don't think Carnival is a better fit for me because their wine policy isn't even as lenient as DCL's, and saving "50-100 bucks" is not the objective. Just saying...
Well, I got one for yah, why don't you take that difference in money and get a room in concierge..you get free drinks!

I'm not canceling what I have but I doubt I will book onboard. It is more about the decreased value of my vacation dollar than any one policy change. DCL continues to raise fares while taking away value added perks, raising rates for onboard extras and has a stale product. For those who routinely sail from PC, the itineraries, dining and shows have just gotten boring. If DCL wants my vacation dollar back they need to step up their game or reduce prices. Also, seeing how they treated their PIF customers with the alcohol change leaves me with a bad taste in my mouth. It shows how little they care about the guest once they have the money. The fact that they haven't tried to make good to those effected shows that they should have no problem doing the same thing again. I would rather not end up shafted by DCL.

Personally, I am offended and appalled by some of the comments on this thread. The assumption that you know or understand another's finances is absurd. Even worse is the assumption that you know why and how the policy change effects others and then you judge them on it. Wow.

I don't think you read the post at all if you think the stuff they call wine in the concierge lounge is going to meet the needs of JimmyV. Clearly all booze is the same to you which is why you don't seem to understand the more nuanced reasons why this policy is a big deal to some.

Oh really? Bwahaha....if you only knew!

Educate me someone: why would someone need a board's opinion to make a decision on a vacation booking?

Rule change, companies do dumb things...at the end of the day, its your dollar, its your time, and its your vacation. Do with it what you wish and makes you happy (even if your happiness is seeing others happy)

How many threads do we really need about the new alcohol policy????

I hope that this post/poll gives a better showing on how much people really hate this new policy, will they go that extra mile and cancel. And hopefully to show an overall picture of all DCL passengers; drinkers, non-drinkers, and drinkers that never bring a bottle on board like me. How much could this really affect DCL? One question I wish I had included was, I will not cancel my current cruise but will go somewhere else for our next one.

In a previous poll posted several day ago with a lot of traction (responses) asking; why DCL reduced the amount you can take on board, with only two options to choose from was ridiculous. I knew what the overwhelming response would be before I voted and seen the results. I was not at all surprised like one responded; that 90% of the responses went for what the pollster was looking to get. Which was greed.

And if people are getting tired of/don't care for/don't have an answer to; a subject line of a thread, they can skip over it and go to the next thread.

I'm not canceling. The old alcohol policy, to us, was a cool policy, a novelty really, but not something we were likely to take advantage of. When on vacation, we both like drinks that we wouldn't consume in our own home. To us, if it's a drink simple enough to concoct in our stateroom, it's not a vacation drink. We like the mixed drinks on vacation that use some of the random ingredients that aren't multipurpose enough to stock at home. I also will be WAY to consumed with photographing every inch of the ship on embarkation day to lug around heavy bottles of alcohol until my room is ready.

Now, admittedly, this our first cruise (first cruise period, not just with Disney). We have not watched the value decline as others have. We also booked early, at a price that worked out to be cheaper than a competing cruise line that we were considering (because we had expected Disney to not fall within the budget). But, quite frankly, as we compared apples to oranges, we decided on Disney, as the product we were being sold was more appealing to us, and the price was within the budget for this trip. The alcohol policy was not something I found out about until after booking, and therefore, it was not under consideration when comparing products.

Actually, the poll response was "profit", not "greed". There is a difference.
And of course the responses trended 90% in that direction. I am sure that you have been reading all of the posts by people who have received calls from DCL to address their concerns. These posts provide all sorts of explanations from Disney that are both contradictory and nonsensical. So of course it is profit driven. What other logical explanation could there be when the cruise line will only allow each person to bring on board 6 beers of 12 ounces each but will allow that same passenger to have 48 beers of 16 ounces each delivered to their cabin waiting for them when they board? And what other explanation but profit could there be when a couple can only bring on board 4 bottles of wine but that same couple can buy a wine package from the cruise line and have 14 bottles of wine waiting for them in their cabin upon arrival? Surely volumetric consumption is not the reason. So doesn't it have to be profit?
