Marathon Weekend 2016

Oops...meant Dumbo, so only half as bad. Lol....Dopey is on my mind because that's in January.

Hi, guys!

It's been a while, and I just wanted to say that this is the best pool of Disers ever!

Is everybody excited for January?
party:

There you are! I've been thinking about you - great to see your pretty face back around these parts!!

For anyone who has cheered on a full marathon runner during this weekend in the past, can you help me figure out a good "cheer on" location?
I will be staying the the Contemporary (Bay lake tower) and will have my toddler with me, so really will not be out and about until after 7am likely, so start line is not in the cards.
My "runner" will be probably in around the 50-75%ish of the runners is my best guess...so middle to back of the pack but not the total back of the pack.
What time do the mid-packers start hitting the Contemporary area and the Magic Kingdom area? When does the MK open for supporters (I will not have any special cheer squad package.)

And finally our other idea is to take kiddo to DHS since it is EMH morning and we will watch some of the kiddie shows and maybe try to see our runner go through DHS. When do you think the mid-packers may start running through DHS?

Here is what I do in RunKeeper to set up intervals (I only know the iPhone app by the way. I'm not sure if it's different):

  • On the 'Start' tab: at the top you can change type of workout and the actual workout. Select whatever is in your workout box
  • At the bottom there should be some "saved" workouts; select any of these and you can modify them
  • Click edit at the top right and you can modify the Workout details.
  • I changed mine to 1:00 steady, 1:00 minute slow. You can delete or add any details that you want.
  • I just put the two and then on "repeat" open selected "unitl I stop my activity"
  • Hit save at the top right.
  • Now you can select this workout
  • You will get audio cues at each workout interval
Perfect!! Thanks!!!!

IF you want to see your runner on mainstreet you'll have to head into the park earlier in the morning. You want have time to see them at the contemporary and main street. A couple years ago we stayed at the Contemporay and here's what we did to chear on a full runner.
Outfront of the Contemporary Mile 5 My guess is they'd be there between 6:45 and 7:ish
Outfront of the Poly Mile 7.5 Our runner was a little slower and was going to stop for pictures so we had time to take the monorail around to the Poly (2 stops)
Go and get a dole whip at the Pineapple Lanai or some Tongo Toast at Captain Cooks. (Spectating is hard work)
Take the walk through the Poly to the TTC and take the Epcot Monorail to Epcot and Walk into the park to find the big seating area by Norway (or whatever your favorite finish line chearing areas is and High five runners until yours gets there)

You might be able to fit AK in that loop too but on last years course it's only 6 miles from the Poly and I'd be concerned about issues with buses making it from the poly to there or from AK to the finish.
If we did go to AK I'd probably take the bus from there to Beach club rather than to the finish.

What's funny is, I read it as Dumbo and knew it as Dumbo. But still replied with Dopey since you did. Is that weird or what? haha.

Haha, it was my mind control making you do it. Or we are just so focused on these races that we know how we are all thinking. Ughhh...5 months to go

I am on the fence about signing up for the full. I've been going back and forth since registration opened! This would be my first full marathon (I've run 3 half marathons). Question for those of you who have run this event before... How did it work having your extra long training runs in December during the busy Christmas season? I live in Maine, so there is a good chance I would be doing December long runs on a treadmill. Any thoughts on feasibility of marathon training in December for a mom of 3 who works full time?

Maybe early morning treadmill runs? Is there a ymca with an indoor track near your area? Hopefully those will be some helpful options for you.

The marathon at the world is fantastic!!!!!

WOW that's is amazing! I've seen some cool handmade stuff on etsy for the Dopey medals but this is quite unique! Definitely share again later :-)

Thought it should quit lurking and introduce myself. Registered for the full, my first ever.

:welcome:

How exciting that the Disney World Marathon will be your first! My first will be the Dublin Marathon in 3 months, I'm pretty nervous for that too!

A fellow HP fan too! We just have to go every time, I love the new area in Universal. :D

Dublin is a great marathon. The course is very scenic, it's not too crowded, and there are plenty of bars at the finish line for rehydration and warming up. :drinking1

I live on the North Shore of Boston and managed to get all my runs done outside last December. I ran my longest runs early Sunday morning (I'd be out at 6:00 AM) before anyone was up (but then my kids are older). And in the last week of December you'll be starting your taper, so that shouldn't be so bad.

Ye I'm hoping it will be a good first experience, I'm from Dublin but moved to London only one month ago so it'll be nice to head home for it too! Plenty of bars indeed! We're definitely not short of pubs and bars! Hoping I'll be up for a drink afterwards!
