I was reading a thread comparing SM to 7DMT because I'd been wondering about SM specifically. I hate drops. Love coasters, upside down, fast, curvy, and huge drops in coasters are FINE, but King's Island's Drop Zone (now called Drop Tower, I believe) was the most terrifying ride I've ever been on. I don't know if it revealed my intense dislike or caused it. I know Splash isn't the same, but it's also not like a coaster exactly. I read some others are with me and are just not into it and some haven't been on it at all. I need to know if it a) feels like you might fall out and b) is just a long, sickening drop like the earth fell out from beneath you or is more like a steep/very steep glide. I was hesitant to try TOT, but I did and I loved it. Was nothing like I expected. I felt protected b/c of being enclosed in a "box". Not like Drop Zone where we were very high, exposed, and had to wait a long minute hanging out in the sky, pondering our immediate demise. The drop was actually a relief compared to that. Also, we have some first-timers going with us who really want to try this. Is it suitable for a plus sized person?

I was reading that thread too and I never realized that people have a fear of Splash Mountain!!! The only thing of any height at all is the one big drop you see from the outside. You can certainly check it out before going on. There's no harness holding you in at the shoulders, but you do have a bar-type thing that comes down across your lap.

I can't do big coasters--don't like going upside down or spinning at all. But LOVE ToT. And Splash is one that my whole family has done on every trip--even when my youngest DS was 5 and very, very hesitant about most rides--wouldn't even attempt BTMRR, hated Dinosaur, wouldn't go near ToT or Everest. But he loved Splash and it's still one of his favorites.

This really depends on the person too. My wife sat through BTMRR- screaming while my then 7 year old laughed. She went on Splash once, and refuses to go back.

The ride has just the one drop. That drop is fast and wet, but not frightening, at least to me. It's over so quick you don't have time to be frightened.
It's a fun ride. Nothing to be concerned about. It is a little more than Dumbo and Barnstormer.

IMO, the big drop in Splash is very similar to any roller coaster drop. Not at all like a straight up and down, Tower of Terror drop. If you can handle coasters, you can handle Splash, no problem.

I will not go on ToT again. I'm really not a coaster person (no six flags for me), but I think Space and Thunder offer a little enough thrill that I enjoy them. In other words, I like fast, but no drops or upside down. I don't love Splash, but I went on it again in June, and it was way more tame than I remember. I'd do it again if someone else wanted to do it.

I think Khali River Rapids has a more intense drop than Splash Mountain

this thread is interesting because for all of my visits to wdw i have never gone on splash for fear of the drop. i am terrified of drops and can't do rollercoasters at all. on the other hand i could ride soarin all day long and do fine on kali. i always feel so bad skipping splash but that drop, yes, it terrifies me. ps i'm fine on dumbo too lol

I'm not a coaster fan. I don't like seeing through the ride to the ground, so Barnstormer is actually not easy for me. I like BTMRR, but that is about my limit. So I was nervous before trying SM and KRR, but I loved both of them! On SM - The drop is more like a steep glide than the earth falling out from beneath you and you don't feel like you're going to fall out. I don't think being plus-sized would be an issue, not that I can recall anyway. This is one of my favorite rides and I'm a complete wimp about this kid of thing!

It is more like a steep glide.

Splash has a few gradually increasing drops (more like slides) until the big one at the end. I'm not a roller coaster person AT ALL and can't stand big drops. Splash is pretty much my limit for big drops. You won't feel like you're falling out of the boat. If you rode ToT and enjoyed it, you won't have a problem on Splash. I completely lost it on ToT. Never never never again! Hated those drops. Splash was fun. The thrill is more a fun thrill than a scary thrill.

so, are you guys saying that splash is really no worse than kali?? is that possible?
No, Splash is worse than Kali as far as the drop. Splash's drop is steeper, longer and faster than Kali's. Kali had zero fear factor for me. 100% fun, but too short. Complete drenching though vs a good splash on Splash.

My DH won't ride thrill rides and I can't convince him to ride Splash. He loves animatronics and so I know he would love every part of it but the drop. To someone who doesn't like thrill stuff, that drop looks huge and scary.

It's hard to vote but I'd place it in between Choices 1 & 2. I did vote for 2: "A little thrill, but no more than flying on Dumbo". The drop is not at all the type where you fly up out of your seat or lose your stomach. I guess I would describe it as a steep glide, like a slide. You most definitely do not feel like you might fall out. The anticipation of how much water you're going to get splashed with is the biggest thrill rather than the big "drop". If you're okay with Tower of Terror, Splash Mountain will be very enjoyable (and not scary) for you. The theming of Splash Mountain is so awesome and adorable -- you definitely must give it a try! The drop on Splash Mountain appears much worse when watching than it actually is when you're in the log. :)
