Internet deal on board - don't miss it!

I just got off the Magic and learned this lesson too late...

On the day you board the disney ship, you can get a free 50MB of internet access, but you have to sign up for it that day. The offer expires at midnight that first night, and there appeared to be no catch. Unfortunately, I didn't discover this until the next day (our sea day) and the offer wasn't available. But I was happy to discover their other internet plans are now more reasonable than you'd think. 100MB for $19, 300MB for $39 or 1000MB for $89. I opted for the 100MB for $19 and was able to check email every night. Meanwhile, Verizon wanted to charge me $25 for 100MB that I would not be able to use on the ship - only in port (where free wifi could often be found).

Anyway, I figured I'd share this with future cruisers... at least take advantage of the free MBs if you can get them!

Yes, DCL has been offering this for about 8-10 months now.

Thank you for the great tip!

You can also sign up for the 50 mb for each person in your cabin, it lasts quite a while if you can figure out how to turn off updates! One of mine was eaten up while I was trying to figure out how NOT to auto update facebook, grrr! I ended up spending $20, which I still felt like was a great deal for the whole cruise, it was really nice to be able to talk to my adult kids back home via facebook messenger.

I think the difference is the free 50 MB isn't advertised now whereas in the past it was. We have several people that are on the Magic that are veteran cruisers who have reported this. Folks wouldn't know there is or still is free 50mb plan unless they read it here or through word of mouth :)

Yes agree I think it's targeted advertising via App and the website on the ship.

It should be on the personal navigator for the embarkation day. I remember seeing it on some previously posted personal navigators.
However, I think it is a per stateroom deal, not per person. Please confirm. It would be nice if it is for per person. TIA!

On our May 2nd Fantasy cruise I was able to sign up for it and my husband was also. I was regretting that I didn't sign up my son's ipad also!

I ended up using both mine and DH's on my phone and my son's ipad, so the device wasn't an issue. (My son was playing an educational game called Dragonbox, and I was able to get into itunes and download the full version for him, it was pretty awesome).

Thanks for your prompt reply. Is it 50 mb free per stateroom or per person? I think we can sign up more than one device per account. I am wondering whether we are sharing the free 50 mb altogether.

:thanks:

My husband and I were each able to sign up for 50 mb, however another poster said they were only able to get one per cabin, so it is worth a try!

Our fellow cruisers on the Magic have stated it was *not* advertised in the Navigators which was my point above :) In the past it was, however if you didn't know about it or find it another way (possible app or online as Disney Fantasy suggested) you wouldn't know about it. They were also kind enough to share it with us so we would know when we board on the 29th.

In addition, I'm pretty sure they advised it was per person as there were two of them (in this example) sharing a cabin. I do know when I travelled with my Mom on the Dream it was just the two of us and we each got the 50MB free. Of course YMMV :)
