SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Information & Questions

What did you do, use a Universal ticker? :lmao:

Ha, no. I broke a board rule a couple of times about what can be debated and was given points so I have no signature temporarily. I like to debate, oh well. My ticker should be back in a couple of weeks. A lot of rules on forums don't exist in real life.:cool1:

Thank you for your comment but I did read the first page and was wondering if there are microwaves or coffee pots in the rooms already since you are not allowed to bring them. Most hotels these days have them. I have read a great deal about SOG, but since I have two toddler boys i may have been distracted and missed something.

I am looking for kind and helpful comments in addition to all that is on the first page especially from people that have traveled with small children that have special needs...like needed to warm something in a microwave etc... What rooms or areas are most requested. Where to get coffee if there are no coffee pots, especially if you have 3 kids in tow and don't leave them in the room by themselves.

We go to Disney every year and I have read many books and boards to get the most info but there just isn't much on SOG.

I certainly understand missing something with toddlers in the house. :thumbsup2 To answer your question, they do have coffee pots in the rooms, but not microwaves. There are, however, microwaves available in the laundry rooms (one in each "section"). If you want to be placed closer to the laundry rooms so you can have easy access to the microwaves, you can request that. Hope this helps. And have a great time!!

Microwaves have always been in the laundry room. We've taken kids of all ages and now go alone, but have never used the microwaves.

And anyone wondering or questioning the rules on pool hopping. See this sticky thread from this resorts board: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2450438

Hi everyone! Hoping you can help me with something. I don't post on this thread (SOG) much but I have followed along for years. A little background first... I have probably stayed at SOG between 8 and 10 times. Sometimes we stay onsite at a "Disney" hotel. Most recently we stayed at WL in December where my husband and I both agreed that while it was beautiful we enjoyed SOG more. This trip will be Me, my two youngest DS's and my parents. My Dad just retired from the military and we usually stay at SOG if they are joining us.

Anyway, one section the SOG thread intro posts are missing is about the different sections/rooms and why you might stay there. With all of that said here is my question. Which is your favorite section/room and why?? We are booked for March and I need to put in a request but can't decide where. Both sections have pro's and con's and I guess I am just interested to see if I am missing/forgetting anything.

Also, has anyone ever stayed in any of the suites?? I have searched for reviews and photos but I have not found any except what is on the SOG website.

Friends of mine stayed in a suite. It is wonderful, but I would rather have 2 rooms for the price. They can be a walk from the lobby but; my favorite room numbers are: 122-131; 220-239; 320-329.All of these rooms are in the corridor that has the double sinks in the Magnolia section of the hotel. These are standard double queen rooms in the corridor that is closest to the hot tub. Granted the hot tub is closed right now, but should be open whenever the Magnolia pool renovation is done. I'm sure other folks will have their favorites and why. We also don't park in the garage when staying in these rooms; we park out by the golf clubhouse; short walk around the putting green in the morning.

Yes it does.... you must arrive on Saturday... we come in Sunday. Our son won't be back from college until late Friday night... we needed to give him a day to recoup and me a day to do all the laundry I am sure he will be bringing with him just in time to repack it!!!
:confused3
My daughter (21) finishes a final on Friday afternoon. We will drive to Orlando on Saturday, and she will fly into Orlando on Saturday afternoon. I will PM you. We lived in Rome, NY for 4 years. Never been so cold. How do you do it?

I only mentioned it because I thought I had read somewhere that you could since SOG was having such a long time getting theirs finished, but I have read so much about SOG in prep for our trip that I could be wrong or I
May have missed that it was a sarcastic comment! We don't spend much time at any pool since we go in Dec and mine are so young. Only enjoyed the POLY pool last month on a quick trip when we stayed there.

I don't understand why every post on this thread regarding pool construction at SOG makes it sound like they only have one pool. The construction that is occuring is only at the previous "quiet" pool which we never used anyway. The Millpond (or Mickey head) pool is still open for business, is it not?

The Millpond is the one still available. I try to look at their Facebook page and they are pretty good about posting updates and pictures of the construction they are doing on the other pool.

A lady posted a question asking if the pool construction would be done by the time they get there(September 4th.) and Shades of Green wrote back that it would not be done by then.

This is correct. The larger, mickey pool, is still open.

We've also never found this bigger pool the least bit crowded, even in the middle of the day. We're always able to get a seat / table. The only time we've ever really use the 'quiet' pool is when we've grabbed a lunch at the golf course snack bar which was right next to that quiet pool

Any I have stayed at Disney every year most of my life and used the pools at least a couple of times and have never been asked or even seen a wristband.

Unless you were using the pool at the resort you were staying at, you weren't supposed to be there. Wristband or not. It's Disneys rules.

not to act like I'm trying to play moderator or anything, but we should probably move on from the pool hopping discussion, right or wrong. These discussions never go well and they've been discussed ad nauseam in the threads linked previously here on the resort board. (linking again - http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2450438 )

I like that this thread stays happy and factual and directly related to SOG. :)

That's why I posted the link.

They're now saying "early fall" which means late Sept-early Oct would be my guess.

Ditto. The only reason I come to this board anymore is for this thread. Let's keep it classy.

Glad you said something. I was going to because things were getting a bit snippy and that's not what we are about here. :thumbsup2

Let's start another topic: What is your favorite part about staying at Shades?

Mine is the peaceful atmosphere with that military discipline and comraderie (sp?). :thumbsup2

My new favorite is the bar in the lobby. Used it quite convincingly last visit. My old favorite is the hot tub. It is actually hot. Hope it stays that way after the renovation.

This! Also, everyone says hello to everyone. There's a connection you just don't get at a regular hotel.

Our main reason for staying at SOG is we get a deluxe size resort for a low price. We pay the highest category, but it's still a fabulous deal. We've stayed in '98, '05, '08, '11. In '98 we had our two teenage sons with us. The rest of the trips have just been DH and I. My favorite thing is location. We can walk to Poly and TTC if we want instead of taking SOG transportation.

Can't wait to see all the new changes ... in 23 days! What do they serve at that lobby bar? Just breakfast stuff or does it change throughout the day?
