2013 Beach and Yacht Club FAQ: Don't Post Here! New Thread Now Open

DH and I will be staying at the BC for the first time in October :cool1:

We have a garden view room and will request a King bed. Anything else we should request? It's only DH and I so the distance to walk to things doesn't really matter. I've read here to request Epcot view for the fireworks, but are there gardenview rooms/king bed that face this direction?

Just an FYI, there are VERY FEW king bed garden view rooms at the BC. Just want you to know that so you are not disappointed if you don't get one. October the Y&B is usually full due to the F&W Festival so the chance of a king bed GV being vacated on the day you check-in is slim. Since it is your only request, you should get it if one is being checked out of on your check-in day and since it is just you and your DH. But if one isn't available, you'll probably get two queens.

@ MickeyT-

I'll be watching to see how quickly Jiminy moves towards Mickey to give him a hug on your DL ticker!!!

Just in case you haven't noticed, Hedwig is halfway to Hogwarts and I am just about a couple of months from home!!!

:goodvibes

This is what I miss most by viewing the Dis on iPads - no tickers or emoticons. Hope they change that in the future.

I agree with what someone said, good news if you're NOT going to BB. I'm not looking forward to being all grungy from the BB and waiting with a bunch of people to go to AK, so I can then get in line to wait for another bus and backtrack to my resort. But, oh well. They are doing the test and I'm sure they will find out if it works out or not. Just glad it's not being tested when I'm there. I'm waiting to see how this works out. popcorn::

I wonder why they don't just drop off at AK first and then BB?

I agree. Good thing we were already planning to drive to Blizzard Beach.

I just wanted to let you all know how great BC IPO is.

I didn't even know they had opened up the Fireworks Dessert Party for July today. When I came home from work there was an email from BC IPO they they got the 3rd of July for us. It was for seven and that wasn't even a problem.

Can't wait - Teena we are so excited that you are Lauren are joining us!

Woo hoo! Awesome news! I am just now seeing that July is open for booking a Wishes dessert party. Hopefully I can still get one!

I might be too late (you might have already mailed your package). If not, you can go to usps.com. Hover your mouse over SHIP A PACKAGE and click on CALCULATE A PRICE. I know you asked about time, not cost, but if you enter the information about your package, it will show you the different shipping options and when your package should arrive for each of those options.

That won't help with figuring out how long it will take to get from Disney's centralized post office delivery location to your resort (I have no idea about that one) but it's a starting point.

Here's the link: http://postcalc.usps.com/

Thanks for the link. According to their calculations though its going to cost a fortune to send this package down so I may need to figure out something else. I purchased 3 huge plush characters and bought some smaller toys to do an in room celebration for the kids but I wasn't thinking about the fact they charge big bucks for an oversized box even though its light. The van is going to be so packed already I'm not sure how I could take them with us now.

Definitely going to need to figure it out soon though.

Good news (hopefully) for us bus riders. Sounds like they are hearing the feedback about all AK buses going through BB!

Link:
New bus route to Blizzard Beach testing later this month

But not so good news if your going or coming back from BB :( having to get off the bus at AK wet & yucky from BB and transfer to another bus to get back to resort will really increase travel time. If you have a 20 min bus wait at BB, then another 20 min bus wait at AK. That's 40 min just on wait time. Since we plan on a few WP days this August, having to take 2 busses is not masking me happy.

Maybe they could do this route during colder months when WP attendance is lower. In hot months I think they should have busses back to your resort from the water parks. Sorry to disagree my friend!

Thanks for posting!!! This post alerted me that the dessert party reservations for July were being booked... I needed 7/13, but nothing was available... so I booked 7/11 at 9 and then rebooked le cellier for the same day at 4:15 instead of 6:30! All worked out wooohooo!!! Can't wait!!

Congrats!

Hello. I guess I will be joining in. I just changed my reservation from POR to YC SV. We will be there August 22-31 of this year. This is our first ever trip to WDW, well, Florida for that matter. I have been enjoying the thread.

Question: Does anyone have teens and what have the teens thought of Yacht Club?

I showed by 16 year old DD a video of YC from youtube and it unfortunately showed an older woman being pushed in a wheelchair. Now my DD is convinced YC is like a nursing home and is not happy with the resort choice. She said it should be fine as long as she doesn't have to feed any old people tapioca pudding. She is kind of making me regret changing, but not enough to change my plans.
We stayed at BC, and were looking around YC during our visit. Also have been there dining. This trip we are trying YC. My 27 yr old daughter is very exited about YC. She wanted to stay there last time, it was me who wanted BC :goodvibes

Wow! What a big response to my question. Thank you to everyone that answered. I feel much better about my decision and she is starting to get excited too.

This will be the first year since 2003 that I have not been at least once during the year to BC/YC. I am missing you guys so badly............ I wish I was going to be there with you!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a blast and please think of me at least once during your visit together. Wish I would be there with you. See you next year and hope you guys have the time of your life!! I love you guys to death!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ah bleeps.....A sign I am getting old and my two year old bifocals may need adjusting. I was trying to figure out what kind of fan hat you had on in your photo.....
:smooth:
You are not alone my friend! :rotfl2::rotfl2: Me too!
We just got back this week. :goodvibes

The lounge is open 24 hours, but after 10 pm, they only leave sodas in the fridge and the food items that were available during the day (trail mix, yogurt covered pretzels, and Swedish fish). There are also bottles of water out (the big glass variety of Evian and Perrier)....but they don't leave any ice....:confused3
So, if you want warm water....you're in luck!! :thumbsup2

Oh, and we did not do an in-room celebration, but we had it noted on our reservation that we were celebrating our DD9's birthday and they had a bunch of balloons waiting for her along with a card signed by all of the princesses and then one night Mickey and Minnie left her a voicemail. The pixie dust was flying!!!
Thanks for this info :) Do you have to vacate the lounge at 10pm for them to do a final tidy-up and then they let you back in? If we were there having a glass of wine would we have to leave and come back when they had cleared all the desserts etc?

Not too long to go now :goodvibes

We're headed down to the BC in 9 more days!!!

Ack! I don't see you on the Be Our Guest list for May- I'll fix that! May 11?

:thumbsup2

Speaking of hardy and abnormal, we got 16 inches of snow yesterday. Snow day in May? Yikes, it has me dreaming of a little FL sunshine. 172 days, lol!

:sunny::sunny::sunny:

Posting some sunshine for you. Sounds like you need a vacation!

We were upgraded to a 2br suite two years ago. We were so surprised all I could do was cry. We were so surprised and very thankful. It was the best pixie dust we have ever gotten. We still talk about it!!

Awesome upgrade!!! :cool1:

Was this at BC or another resort? I don't have any pictures from the 2BR Suite at BC in my Deluxe Room thread...

Just checked in at YC yesterday. Love our room, spotlessly clean and very comfortable. View is very nice. We reserved a garden view room, and we're overlooking the gazebo. From our balcony we can see the water, and even saw the fireworks over the tops of the trees last night. Shortly after arrival we were sprinkled with some pixie dust. We received a plate of the most delicious chocolate-dipped strawberries I've ever tasted! Everyone is so friendly, and customer service is phenomenal!

So disappointed in the weather, but that's beyond anyone's control. We booked here mainly for SAB, and I don't know if we'll be able to swim at all before we check out on Saturday. Tomorrow was supposed to be our pool day. Hoping for a sudden change in the weather forecast!

Thanks for checking in with us. Hope you were able to enjoy the pool!

:goodvibes

Speaking of sab, has anyone confirmed they still sell noodles (I assume they must b/c may pool activities includes noodle races, whatever that is). Also, do they sell the "floating dumbell buoys", or just noodles? Our guy really likes to be "self-sufficient" in water (with me hovering right there), and the dumbells give a bit more support than noodles. We also have a life preserver, but sometimes those annoy him. We are so looking forward to our trip in 9 days (now only 8.5 b/c early flight Saturday may 11)!

I have never seen/read about the dumbell buoys being sold at the resort. Can you pack or ship some? :scratchin

We just got back from the YC yesterday. The inner tubes were free while we were there. The little store was closed, so all the tubes were stacked up for guests to use. There were also a few noodles floating around. The lifeguards let guests use noodles in any of the pools. The life vests were also on a rack for guests.

Thanks so much for the info!!!

:thumbsup2

Try FedEx Ground or UPS (you can check their prices online). We have found that, over a certain size or weight, they are cheaper than USPS.

What am I going to do without my BC/YC Dis Meet buddy? You know that you will be there in our hearts. I will NEVER forget last year when you surprised us! Or the year before when DH called me a "stalker" when I followed you into the ladies room at Narcoossee's!

Next year will be spectacular!!!!

We love you to death too!!!!

I sent a huge (size of dishwasher) box that weighted 52 pounds Fed Ex Ground from central FL to my daughter in Vegas and it cost less than $50. It took 6 days to get there. Not bad!!!

I like this, except when I'm going to Blizzard Beach!!! Are there just not enough people to have a BB dedicated bus from the resorts?
Thanks!

Agree RW.....Maybe a bus loop from/to both waterparks.

I guess the problem I have with it is we go during off season a lot and I can't tell you how many trips I've made through BB and no one got off or on.....:upsidedow

So excited---66 days to go!!:cool1:

First...my DH agreed to add an extra night to our trip so our new dates are 7/8-7/15. Now, we won't have to miss out on MK pm EMH- we can enjoy them on our last night there!

Second...IPO was able to book the Illuminations cruise for us on my son's birthday and our good friends from Tampa will be joining us:goodvibes

Third...I just booked the MK dessert party for 7/10. We have never done this , so looking forward to it!

It is becoming harder and harder to keep all of these wonderful surprises from my kids but I'm trying to stay strong!!

I'll adjust your dates on the B.O.G.

Sounds like some absolutely awesome surprises!

:goodvibes

Just a FYI that my work will be hosting a conference at the Yacht Club Sunday May 5 to Wed May 8 of about 325 people.. Last year there was a breakfast buffet out on the Marina every morning with characters.. On 5/6 they will be hosting a dinner and entertainment in the AK and on 5/7 they will have a dinner & Illuminations dessert party.. Very sad to not be going this year but feel blessed that I got picked to go last year..

Thanks for letting us know about the conference. :thumbsup2

Hello everyone! Just joined after lurking for a long time. I'm a FL native and have been to WDW over 40 times but our 3 daughters (ages 10, 8 & 3) have never been. This past April we surprised them with a week long visit and during our trip we stayed club level at the GF. That was awesome!

This July we are going back for another week but will be staying in a Deluxe Club level room at the BC. This will be my first stay at the BC so this thread has been a great source of info on that resort!

:welcome: to this thread and to posting on the DIS!

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for July.

Let us know if you have any questions about the resort.

:cool1:

I'm glad everyones responses have reassured you (and hopefully your daughter). It's all good!!!

Hi just wondering if anyone knows if the YC club lounge is still open 24 hrs and if so what is on offer after 10pm? Also I know some of you arranged in-room celebrations/gifts through the IPO-would you mind telling me how you do this? I know about the Disney florist but I was thinking more along the lines of things on sale at hotel shop plus maybe game card for arcade or something?? Hoping to celebrate 25th anniversary at Yacht Club (club level) but would do something wee for kids too as they are just brilliant (not that I'm biased :rotfl:).
Thanks for any help :goodvibes

Bumping this!!!

I think Robyn did this (with pixarmom's photographic help). Robyn looked at the Marketplace pictures that pixarmom took, and made note of some of the goodies for sale, then prepared a list of things for IPO to purchase on her behalf.

Maybe one or both of them could elaborate on this.

I know you've already gotten a lot of great reassurance -- but just another mom of a teen (boy, 15) reporting that it is an IDEAL resort for teens! DS refuses to even consider staying elsewhere. The resort itself gives teens the opportunity to be reasonably independent (family can be at the pool, but it's so big that he can enjoy himself without feeling constrained by us), being able to walk to Epcot is fantastic, etc. Just a great place to stay!

:wave2: bleeps.

Giving you a :welcome:

Not sure if you have posted here before, I don't remember seeing your screen name on the B.O.G list in the past.

We 'might' be staying here in September, have had to change our ressie 7 times!! We finally all agreed we'd spend the xtra for a deluxe but ALWAYS the Contemporary Garden View/STandard has been the cheapest of all Deluxe for five people...when checking tonight I realized Beach club Garden View was actually cheaper than CR by $120...every bit helps..we have never stayed here so that is kind of exciting...just a question on the day bed, is it as long as the one at CR? My son is 6'3 and will be sleeping on it, on the cruise ships he did just fine on their day beds...thanks! Now, I need to go through and see what I need to learn about BC! :)

:welcome:

Please let us know if you end up booking here for September.

:yay:

From what I understand- there are two types of daybeds at the Beach and Yacht Club. The older ones are smaller and more appropriate for a younger child and the larger ones are fine for adults, even tall ones like your son. I also have heard that rollaway cots are very comfortable.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure that the room assigners know which rooms have which type of daybeds, although if I were you, I would specify "Large sized daybed for my tall son, please" Maybe that would help.

:welcome:

I'll add you to the Be Our Guest list for October.

:woohoo:

Just making sure that you realize that not all of the rooms at the Beach Club have full balconies, so if that is important to you, you need to add that request to your reservation.

Please remember, list your most important request first, and understand that there is no way to book these types of requests. The room assigners will do their best to get you into the type of room you want, but they are limited to what is available on the day you check in.

Woo hoo! Awesome news! I am just now seeing that July is open for booking a Wishes dessert party. Hopefully I can still get one!

I think there are only reservations through July 10 so far, so if you are looking for later than that in July, you still have a chance. Now that you are CL at YC (and at the Poly), have you asked IPO to try to book the night you want?

I am looking for July 19, so I will be checking later today, and for the next few days, to see if Disney has opened up reservations for those days.

:goodvibes

Try FedEx Ground or UPS (you can check their prices online). We have found that, over a certain size or weight, they are cheaper than USPS.

Thanks for the suggestion! The only problem, I think, is that if they send by those methods, they will be charged a handling fee by the convention center, although I believe the fee is by weight... so it may end up being less expensive than USPS in the end for the larger, but lighter weight stuffed animals.

:)

Thank you so much! Yes! That does help immensely! We are booked for here as of right now and reading all the posts so far we may try our best to stay here! We have tried out CR, Poly, OKW, and AKL in the past, we have 3 teenagers and it sounds like they would love BC! Thanks so much!! We are booked the 2nd week in September 10-16 :) Celebrating a load of items, combined losses should be at goal by then (losing over 150 pounds for dh and me!), my birthday and our 21st wedding anniversary...getting excited! Just waiting for free dining offer to roll out!

Good morning YC/BC fans! I'm always reading but haven't posted in a while... We have solidified our dates and this year we decided to give YC a try...we have been staying BC for the last several years...YC is the last regular resort we haven't stayed in!

Sooo... Please add us to the BOG list! YC CL 7/13-7/18... We will be at polyCL 7/18-23...

Hoping to see you again teena! Is there a July meet this year?

We are staying at the yacht club again in October. Does anyone know if it's easier to get walk up breakfast reservations at the swan/dolphin. I know last trip if we did not have a breakfast reservation at either kouzzina, captain's grille or cape we wound up skipping it. I did make a couple of breakfast reservations for the week but sometimes we just want to wing it as well.
