Port Orleans French Quarter Q&A Thread, New for 2012 (thread now FULL and CLOSED)

I don't know...last trip my kids were 15 and 11 and they still enjoy the slide.

That is the one thing I worry about-that the pool area will be too "lame" and "boring" for the 13yo and 11yo. My 7 yo DS will love it. But my 13yo DS is BIG on the pool time, which is why I initially was going to book CSR, and that's the only downside I see to booking POFQ. Or is it? Am I fretting for nothing? :confused3

I have a 10 yr old daughter and an 8 yr old son who are really looking forward to the pool...I will be 40 when we go in October and I'm looking forward to the pool area too lol

So it looks like my plan to visit POFQ in Feb 2014 is off........

Because it has changed to a Oct 2013 visit instead!!:cool1:

My mom mentioned she wished she had gone with me to F&W Festival last October, and since I wasn't planning to do another fall trip until 2014 we were both bumming ourselves out. Decided that my winter 2014 trip just wasn't going to do it, so moved it up.

Makes for a crazy year as I now have trips planned (between work, vacation, and my nephew's basketball) every month April thru October, but hey I figure right now I have the time, the money and the desire so why not.

Got a garden room, with no discount that I can live with even if POFQ isn't in the fall sales and hit up the SW airlines sale this morning to get flights on points. Luckily I can budget up everything else pretty easily.

Can't wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So excited to stay at POFQ for the first time in October!

I have booked a Pool View room, because those buildings look fairly close to the main building. I know the resort is small, but I'd like a guarantee to be close without relying on a request. Plus, my son would be stoked about a pool view, and we sleep with a fan, so any noise shouldn't bother us.

However... I'm only guesstimating the distance using a map. Can anyone who's been there tell me if Pool View rooms are a good choice if you want to be close to the main building?

Small resort no where is far from anything here. From the river dock to the front of the resort is less than 5 minutes (I can do it in 3) since pool view is along those paths you will be super close.

However I think Pool view is 2nd and 3rd floors so you have to factor in stairs or walking to the middle of the building to elevators.

Correct me if I'm wrong guys but isn't 1st floor facing the pool considered Garden View not Pool View?

You are correct, the ground floor rooms in 2 and 5 are not considered Pool View, because with the hedges/fences you don't get to see much of the pool.

But yes, Pool View rooms are all very close for access to the main building, and there are very convenient stairways at the ends of both of those buildings.

Thanks for the info! I'm just still having nightmares from making our way to and from the main building at POP to our room in the 50's section that felt 20 miles away. We hardly used our refillable mugs due to the hike.

As I posted a month ago, this spring will see Port Orleans French Quarter's turn to be given a brand new look for its main registration lobby area, similar to the work completed over at Riverside last summer.

I can now confirm that the work is due to commence on 15 May 2013 and should be completed by mid-July. As always, please remember that work schedules can shift a little, but that's the best information I have at the moment. More details on the estimated completion date should be available in June.

During the period while the current lobby area is closed, all checkin and guest service functions will take place at the old Bonfamille's Café restaurant, just across the central atrium next to Scat Cat's Club - so when you enter the main atrium, you'll need to turn left rather than right.

Thanks for the update!

Is the construction only affecting the check in/out area? Will it be affecting anywhere else such as food court, gift shop, etc?

Thank you.

I'm a little disappointed, we arrive 17th May for our first visit. I was looking forward to seeing the lobby area! It looked so big and Disney to me... May there will be a few days delay so I get to see it all even just once.

The lobby is nice I suppose but not that big and you spend next to nil in time there so it shouldn't be too big of an issue and the courtyard is the prettier part and shouldn't be affected. But here's my favorite bit of lobby trivia. The music notes on the wall behind the check in play "When the Saints Go Marching In" Go see Eliot Dyson and enjoy him for me and have fun!!

No, just the checkin hall area, I would have said if more was going to be closed. The main glass-faced atrium will be open as normal, so there will be very little impact on guest flow, you'll just turn left rather than right when you arrive.

But don't forget you'll also get to see the inside of the old Bonfamille's Café restaurant, which has not been accessible to guests for more than ten years --- we need photos!

DH and I had hoped to eat there during our first stay at POFQ but it was closed shortly before we arrived. We were quite disappointed.

Very true, I will try to get some photos! :-)

We'll be arriving May 29th so we'll get the treat of seeing the inside of the old Bonfamille's Café restaurant. Since this is our 1st stay at POFQ I will be taking lots of pictures. Too bad they couldn't use this restaurant for something permanent.
