That is some lovely bacon! I do not like my bacon cooked to a crisp.....I think I'd like your British bacon very much!

That wouldn't be considered a bacon cut in the US as bacon in the US comes from the belly traditionally. That totally looks like Ham, which I also love! PORK RULES!

In the UK, you'd be hard-pressed to differentiate a thick piece of bacon and a thin piece of gammon/ham. Different words for effectively the same thing basically.

The American style of breakfast bacon at Port Orleans (and all over WDW) always seems to be more streaky fat than lean meat to me.

Quite frankly, I thought it fatty, too, especially living where I do, in the midst of production agriculture, we get excellent, thick cut, lean bacon. I think the bacon at Disney went out to the lowest bidder, as it were.;)

11 days until check-in, I am so excited!:jumping3:

I've managed to keep it a secret from the kids but it's getting harder and harder not to tell them! We have a later flight out so I plan on picking them up from school and heading straight to the airport. It will be there 2nd time at Disney and our first time at Christmas. I can't wait to see how beautiful it's decorated.

I have one question I'm hoping the experts can answer for me. When I made our reservation, there were no preferred rooms available (free dining) so I booked a water room. I requested a 1st floor building close to the dining hall. Should I also send a fax in requesting the same thing closer to our check in? I prefer being closer to dining than I do the "water view" that we paid for and should I mention that in the fax?

Yes, definitely worth a fax about 5 days before you are due to arrive. There are eight water-view cateogry rooms within building 18 which would fit your needs exactly. Well, only four of them are ground floor, so that does cut it down a bit further. Request that building (18) but mention that you'd happily settle for a non-water view room in a preferred building if that's possible.

Hopefully you'll be OK. 14 Dec shouldn't be too busy - it's about a week later that all hell tends to break loose at WDW.

Andre

Thank you Andre!

We also just received an invitation to try the Fast Pass + while we're there. Unfortunately it is only good on our first day in the parks (Dec 15th) and we would have to change our day in MK to use it. I'm signing up now for it and will decide before we go if I really want to switch my MK day from Sunday to Saturday.

I FAXed my requests (Oak Manor & 3rd floor) on Tuesday and just got an email saying that ALL my requests were granted! WOOT!!!!! So excited! We leave a week from tomorrow! Holy smokes it's getting so close! Thank you to Venom for all the help! You are awesome!

Venonhatch worked his magic for us too! pixiedust: It took me four days of waiting with one fax and one follow-up email to room reservations (with some internet hand-holding by Venonhatch during the process), but we just got a response with the building, floor, and corner room location we requested! :cheer2: Great gratitude to Venomhatch, and one week from today we Senior Princesses will start rockin' our River-view Royal Room for our week of WDW holiday magic. I can't pack fast enough! :woohoo:

So to those in the know about room request, we leave for Disney on Friday but will not arrive for check in until Monday morning the 10th.

We are booked in a Royal Room and if I added any request to my booking I really do not remember but think it would have been to be in Oak Manor.

Which brings us to today and last few weeks of my life which has included multiple doctors and therapies which include water therapy. I am not seeking a handicap room as my main request involves being closer to quiet pool and elevator. View matters little to me. We do however use the food court a lot it seems? Also will be using buses and have used south depot before? Prefer higher floor as well. Seems like a lot of request for a standard royal room?

Any suggestions?

Is there a special fax number to fax requests to or just the main fax listed for POR?

The fax number in given the first post is just fine, and make sure you mark it for the attention of the room assignment team. Quote your full booking details, and give them contact information (email for example) in case they need to get back to you. See http://www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php#Requests.

Any suggestions?

Personally I'd suggest explaining all of the above in a fax, as you've covered it pretty well there.

I think it's more useful to explain what you want from your room location, and allow them to work something suitable out for you, rather than second-guessing the allocation team by asking for one specific location - which if they can't arrange, leaves them wondering what the next-best option might be.

Oak Manor is certainly a good choice in general, but the very end of Parterre Place (nearest the bridge) is also excellent, and it's very close to the pool tool, so don't rule that out.

Just received our Mickey Mail! So excited, a month from today. The only request I put in was for Oak Manor. We booked a Royal Standard. Any suggestions??? I really would like to be as close to the bridge as possible. I will fax my request about 5 days ahead.

So looking forward to Riverside. Last time we stayed there it was Dixie Landings. We loved to watch Bob perform.

Thanks for the quick reply. I will try faxing in a request and be up for whatever they give us. I can not fax from home so will need to go to a copy center to do so. Will try to compose something compelling and send it along on wed or thursday just before we leave here.

About the very end of Parterre Place ? You mean the wing sections? Do they have separate elevators? I do not see elevators there?

I must have an elevator as I do not do steps very well at all. So unsure about all of this. Seems like it is going to be lots of walking! But walking I do ok for limited amounts of time but steps I never handle very well. Just worried about end of day after park time I guess. oh my.

Your very welcome. I don't mind helping those in scared stressful states of mind. I too know what it is like to worry about where we will be, etc. But I hope your family has a very magical visit with us!

Elevators are near the middle sections of the buildings in the mansions.

There are 2 reservations for our family trip (2 rooms) but I am wondering if I can do the check-in for everyone? My mom and in-laws are all new to this so it would be easier for me to do it.

Cheryl

I wasn't sure of this answer....but I'm thinking you can check in for both reservations if they were tied together in the reservation system?

Why don't you request a ground floor room? That would be less walking AND no steps required!

Have you looked into a scooter? You can rent from offsite and then you have it all the time. I had to do this one year after surgery and it was a vacation saver!

When are you arriving? I see you are from the "Show Me State" as well! We arrive on the 9th.....nice to see a fellow Missourian!

We arrive on the 6th and are staying until the 11th. I love seeing your profile picture with the World Series trophy, we have Cards season tickets.

I really am hoping my family makes it through a 9 day stay in one piece! I am worried about the 5 of us sharing 1 room for that long, well, really the 1 bathroom! We have stayed in the ASMu FS the last couple of long trips and liked the space, but with 2 of the kids being adult pice now we have to go with the better yet cheaper POR. Not a bad trade off though! Does anyone have tips on how to make our stay comfortable? The Gil's will be 12, 10, and 6. I plan for the 6 yr old to us the Murphy bed, and the other 2 share one bed, guess I am more or rued about fitting all our stuff in the room.

Oh and for That Mom, and ksromack- Go Cards!
