Goodbye Main Street Bakery....

Well, we could got to Disney "Underground" in Burbank, unfreeze his head, and ask him about his thoughts on the matter, but that seems like too much work, and I'm lazy.

Anyways, he's too busy freaking out over alcohol being served in MK...

Don't be silly. All we need to do is head on over to The Haunted Mansion and attend that seance they are always having! I'll ask about the coffee and you can ask about the booze. :lmao::rotfl2::rotfl:

I am more upset about the EPCOT location also. We always go there on our first night of the trip. We sit outside by the fountain, eat our ice cream, and soak up the atmosphere. I'm not so upset about the Starbucks label, I'm upset about possibly changing our tradition. However, Walt said, "keep moving forward". I guess this is Disney's way. It is truly about the bottom line whether we like it or not.

:thumbsup2 I'm more disappointed in the EPCOT location as well, although a Starbucks location wouldn't have been able to fit in anywhere in World Showcase. Is there anywhere else in EPCOT to get a ice cream sandwich like they have at Fountain View :confused3

The Main Street Bakery is a classic tradition which will be missed. This saddens me so much b/c it changes the integrity of what Walt intially envisioned. I know times change but getting rid of that bakery and those amazing cinnamon buns is just heartbreaking:worried:

We actually don't know that they will be getting rid of the cinnamon buns, the location at DCA sells many Starbucks and Disney offerings so this might include the cinnamon bun.

Am I the only one excited by this move? The DCA location is BEAUTIFUL and the signage really fits with the rest of stores around it. I'm sure the DI won't make the Starbucks in Main Street look like a sore thumb.

This! The outside doesn't scream Starbucks, so Main St isn't changed. I'm guessing they will still have the cinnamon rolls, because the one in DCA had Disney items in with the Starbucks items. I LOVED the one in DCA & am so excited for this. When we spend 10 days at Disney, I am dying for a decent cup of coffee after a couple days. This makes my favorite place in the world even better :cool1:.

I'm excited! I adore Starbucks and am excited to be able to get my hot coffee and fraps while in the World!

I don't see any cinnamon rolls in that picture & yes I am aware you can get them at Sleepy Hollows. Not the same IMO. I really don't care if they bring SB into Disney. I won't drink it because it tastes like the burned stuff from the bottom of the coffee pot, but I know others like it. I just don't think it should replace MSB. Plenty of other places they could put it.

I'm very pro having Starbucks in the parks and have no attachment to Main St Bakery (it's a store to me, that's all :confused3 ) I do wish they had chosen a different location (more because the Bakery just already gets far too busy in the AM) However I think everyone is panicking over nothing at this stage. What if WDW actually are keeping Main St Bakery but just adding Starbucks coffee and food but keeping everything else? We actually don't know the exact plan. The official statement says Main St Bakery is closing for refurb and will reopen as a Starbucks location, not closing entirely.

you can't get them at Sleepy Hollow.

The angst about starbucks ruining the atmosphere of main street is hilarious! Right next to the Edy's Ice cream parlor. Lol. :rotfl2:

I think we should wait to see how it is handled. For all we know it could end up Main Street bakery presented by Starbucks. Or Starbucks Main St bakery.

I think this is a case where Disney can't win. There must be hundreds of posts about the terrible coffee at Disney. If the baked goods are as popular as everyone (myself included) think they are, they will be available in the new themed Starbucks.

Exactly. Main St has been sponsored for decades, since before Eisner. I think the name Starbucks is just a lightning rod.

I agree. WDW has always been full of corporate sponsorships. I just don't get the outrage. Looking at the pictures in the link above of the Starbucks at DL, they will still have classic bakery items as well as the addition of actual coffee. What's bad about that? :coffee:

:thumbsup2 They haven't actually said they are closing Main St Bakery, the statement they have released have said it's being closed for refurb and re opening as a Starbucks location. I'm thinking that it will still be called Main St Bakery but I'am guessing, as it everyone else on these Starbucks threads. Aside from the limited information Disney has released about the WDW locations and what we already know of the DCA location, we don't know really that much of anything.

I'm fairly sure we won't end up with a castle turret with a Starbucks sign! :rotfl2:

The article I read said that the DCA location has Mickey cookies, but they are NOT made at the Disney bakery's. I would not count on Disney items at this location.

My suggestion would be to move the bakery to that little shop just inside the gate, but before the train station. It's the one on the left. People could get to it while waiting for rope drop. Since it's inside the gate everyone can get to it without leaving the park and that shop doesn't seem to do a lot of business.

The DCA location has many Disney offerings that are not Starbucks food, they are pure Disney offerings.

Thank you!! All of these "Walt would never approve" people reeeaaallly need to brush up on their Disney history. From the opening day of DL through the opening of WDW to today, Main Street has been a veritable showcase of corporate food sponsors with exclusive rights. Why was it OK for Kraft, Nestle, Carnation, Sealtest, Edy's, Coke-A-Cola, Oscar Meyer and Sara Lee to run shops on Main Street, but when Starbuck's gets the same opportunity, we are confronted with Armageddon? Hasn't Minute Maid been in Adventureland forever? Walt didn't lose his lunch over such arrangements.

Rant over. Just remember. You have no right to complain about people walking down Main Street with a Starbuck's cup in their hand while you are holding a Dole Whip in yours!

I am a huge Starbucks fan, but this angers me. They could put it anywhere else like in Tommorowland. It would fit great there. I don't see Starbucks fitting on Main Street at all. It's supposed to be nostalgic. Starbucks is not; it's modern.

What's next? A wal-mart next to the castle?

My family was disappointed in this because you can get Starbucks anywhere, but we are hoping they will keep some of our favorite baked goods. Keeping our fingers crossed we can see the MSB one more time on our early January trip.

:thumbsup2 Or a Coke, or a Nescafe coffee, Or a Nestle TollHouse cookie.....

Ummm no :rotfl2: Starbucks will be themed, possible even still as Main St Bakery. How is this different to Main St Bakery serving Nescafe? :confused3

Am I the only one excited by this move?
No. Here and there you can see comments from those of us who like this change, mixed with the other comments. However, this is a Disney fan forum, so the vast majority of people who post here will be unhappy with anything that might change what they remember, this one more so than others because it is something that goes back so far.
