Monday 21st May - Yak & Yeti
We had a nice relaxing start to the day today, I headed out for a run (Saratoga Springs is a wonderful resort for this) and after a shower I picked up a coffee and breakfast from the Paddock Pool Grill
Cherry Danish
The danish was just OK it wasnt as fresh as it could be but the cherry filling was really good
DH didnt really fancy anything and said that he would get something later as we were heading off for a shopping day
After causing my credit card to start smoking we took a well earned Starbucks break where I chose a Soya Latte and DH had an English Breakfast Tea and a Blueberry Muffin which I completely forgot to take a picture of
Next it was DHs turn to spend, spend, spend and once our knuckles were dragging on the floor through the weight of our shopping bags we stopped for another little treat
Pinkberry Frozen Yoghurt - Mall At The Millenia
This was fabulous, you choose a yoghurt flavor and there is a mind blowing variety of toppings to choose from, I had Mango and Strawberry
We headed back to SSR and enjoyed some pool time
DH was feeling hungry so got himself a Grilled Chicken Sandwich from the Paddock Grill (sorry no photo as I didnt take my camera down to the pool)
He loved this sandwich and said it made a nice change form a burger.
When you place your order you are handed a buzzer so you can head back to your sun lounger by the pool and everything is cooked fresh and is really excellent quality
Once we had showered we spent a little time on the balcony and I enjoyed a nice glass of wine and some pretzels
Captains Choice Chardonnay & Chip n Dale Pretzels
The bottle of wine was actually left as a gift in our stateroom on the cruise one evening but I hadnt had chance to enjoy it on the ship
Sorry about the glass, its all they had in the kitchenette
This evening we had an ADR at The Yak & Yeti at Animal Kingdom. Our ADR was at 6:45 and the park closed at 7:00 pm so we knew we would have a nice walk through an empty park at the end of the evening
Yak & Yeti
First up a couple of drinks whilst we checked out the menu
Emperor Margarita - Jose Curevo Gold, Grand Marnier, and Sweet & Sour
This was just awful, can you see the bubbles/froth on the top? It tasted of washing detergent -
When our server returned to check if everything was OK and take our food orders, I explained that the Margarita just didnt taste right so he offered to bring me something else - I dont think he knew I had a Masters In Margaritas
I ended up ordering a Yak Attack instead - Mango Daiquiri, Bacardi Light Rum, and Wildberry Flavors which was OK but nothing amazing (sorry no picture)
Once my new drink was delivered our food arrived
Seared Miso Salmon - miso glazed Atlantic salmon, jasmine rice, baby bok choy and shiitake mushroom stir-fry
This was my choice and it was very tasty, the salmon was really well cooked and I particualrly enjoyed the stir-fry.
Everything was hot and fresh and it was a really enjoyable dish
And for DH
Baby Back Ribs - slow-roasted ribs, hoisin BBQ sauce, chicken fried rice, sweet chili slaw
He thought this was just "OK"
Nothing really bad about it but it just didnt wow him
He even mentioned that he thought the ribs and Flame Tree BBQ were nicer
Onto dessert
Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle
Yes, youve guessed it, this was on my list
We shared these and we were both really disappointed with them.
I expected them to be hot, or at least warm, but they tasted like they had been taken straight out of a refrigerator and the sauce was waaay to sweet for us
Overall we thought that Yak & Yeti was pretty average and wouldnt be in our plans for a return visit; even though I enjoyed my entree it just felt like the kind of food you would get at a shopping mall food court if that makes sense
It was pretty cool to take a slow walk out of an empty Animal Kingdom though
