Olympic Eating With Team GB ** COMPLETED - WDW & DCL**

Monday 21st May - Yak & Yeti

We had a nice relaxing start to the day today, I headed out for a run (Saratoga Springs is a wonderful resort for this) and after a shower I picked up a coffee and breakfast from the Paddock Pool Grill

Cherry Danish

The danish was just ‘OK’ it wasn’t as fresh as it could be but the cherry filling was really good

DH didn’t really fancy anything and said that he would get something later as we were heading off for a shopping day

After causing my credit card to start smoking :smokin: we took a well earned Starbucks break where I chose a Soya Latte and DH had an English Breakfast Tea and a Blueberry Muffin which I completely forgot to take a picture of

Next it was DH’s turn to spend, spend, spend and once our knuckles were dragging on the floor through the weight of our shopping bags we stopped for another little treat

Pinkberry Frozen Yoghurt - Mall At The Millenia

This was fabulous, you choose a yoghurt flavor and there is a mind blowing variety of toppings to choose from, I had Mango and Strawberry

We headed back to SSR and enjoyed some pool time :beach:

DH was feeling hungry so got himself a Grilled Chicken Sandwich from the Paddock Grill (sorry no photo as I didn’t take my camera down to the pool)

He loved this sandwich and said it made a nice change form a burger.

When you place your order you are handed a buzzer so you can head back to your sun lounger by the pool and everything is cooked fresh and is really excellent quality :thumbsup2

Once we had showered we spent a little time on the balcony and I enjoyed a nice glass of wine and some pretzels

Captains Choice Chardonnay & Chip n Dale Pretzels

The bottle of wine was actually left as a gift in our stateroom on the cruise one evening but I hadn’t had chance to enjoy it on the ship

Sorry about the glass, it’s all they had in the kitchenette ;)

This evening we had an ADR at The Yak & Yeti at Animal Kingdom. Our ADR was at 6:45 and the park closed at 7:00 pm so we knew we would have a nice walk through an empty park at the end of the evening

Yak & Yeti

First up a couple of drinks whilst we checked out the menu

138d3f09.jpg

Emperor Margarita - Jose Curevo Gold, Grand Marnier, and Sweet & Sour

This was just awful, can you see the bubbles/froth on the top? It tasted of washing detergent - :crazy2:

When our server returned to check if everything was OK and take our food orders, I explained that the Margarita just didn’t taste right so he offered to bring me something else - I don’t think he knew I had a ‘Masters In Margaritas’ :rotfl:

I ended up ordering a Yak Attack instead - Mango Daiquiri, Bacardi Light Rum, and Wildberry Flavors which was OK but nothing amazing (sorry no picture)

Once my new drink was delivered our food arrived

72d3da4b.jpg

Seared Miso Salmon - miso glazed Atlantic salmon, jasmine rice, baby bok choy and shiitake mushroom stir-fry

This was my choice and it was very tasty, the salmon was really well cooked and I particualrly enjoyed the stir-fry.

Everything was hot and fresh and it was a really enjoyable dish

And for DH

5c6c2346.jpg

Baby Back Ribs - slow-roasted ribs, hoisin BBQ sauce, chicken fried rice, sweet chili slaw

He thought this was just "OK"

Nothing really bad about it but it just didn’t ‘wow’ him

He even mentioned that he thought the ribs and Flame Tree BBQ were nicer :upsidedow

Onto dessert

Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle

Yes, you’ve guessed it, this was on ‘my list’ ;)

We shared these and we were both really disappointed with them.

I expected them to be hot, or at least warm, but they tasted like they had been taken straight out of a refrigerator and the sauce was waaay to sweet for us :(

Overall we thought that Yak & Yeti was pretty average and wouldn’t be in our plans for a return visit; even though I enjoyed my entree it just felt like the kind of food you would get at a shopping mall food court if that makes sense :confused3

It was pretty cool to take a slow walk out of an empty Animal Kingdom though :goodvibes

Coming Up Next ....... Magic Kingdom Goodies

Guess I have to admit it .....

We love the Plaza too! :rotfl2: Those fries are just soooo good and I just love their tuna salad croissant.
We have not tried the banana split YET, but it looks good! Even though I might order it without the whipped cream. Not a huge fan of it. ;)

I nearly ordered the tuna salad croissant Karin; I will save that one for next time :goodvibes

Yay, another dining report!Paradiso and the Plaza look really good, will have to book another trip to try them out sometime!

La Cava really does do fab drinks. One year I tried the Blood Orange and last year tried the Avocado, both were really really good but may have to try the Cucumber next trip. Decisions, decisions!

I know what you mean about pre lunch drinking, I ended up in Mexico too early one year - had to join the queue waiting for La Cava to open. Embarassing!

Nothing wrong with hanging around outside La Cava waiting for it to open, it's like an all adult rope-drop :rotfl:

Great report so far Linda!

We are trying The Plaza for the first time in October and we are looking forward to it very much.

Oh I am sure you will love it; just great simple well cooked food :thumbsup2

Just caught up on your review, wow that Sweet Pretzel looks amazing. I need to try that. I love Plaza too, my favourite restaurant in MK. That was quite a lot of condiments!! :lmao:

The sweet pretzel was yummy but there are a ton of great choices in Norway :goodvibes

great updates, Ive seen a few great Plaza reviews and im hoping to add it to our list next time. :thumbsup2

I must admit, I haven't seen many bad reviews of the Plaza so it must be pretty consistant :)

Another Plaza fan here...the fries....:worship:

Oh what I would give for a plate of those fries right now :lovestruc

Loved reading your Epcot snack day which is how we like to spend our time at World Showcase.

We also love Plaza for it's french fries. They are so crisp outside and soft inside. IMO, they are the best in WDW. In fact, we do have ADR there for our upcoming trip. :thumbsup2

I wouldn't hesitate to go to the Plaza again, DH said that his burger was fab as well :goodvibes

Ok, just changed things around and added The Plaza. We missed it last trip and I have been debating returning this trip. I admit I have never had the fries. They are now a must do!

I hope you like it, I'm sure you will :thumbsup2

Linda - your sandwich at Plaza Restaurant looks really yummy! Before I read your comment I said heck, that's not focaccia! It's so funny how they bring out so many cups of condiments - especially the mustard and mayo. :confused3 Love their banana splits there!

I thought it was a bad sign at first, if we need to use that much additional sauce for our food it must be bad!! .... happily I was wrong :bitelip:

I too thought the wontons would be warm-never heard they were cold before. Thanks for that :thumbsup2

How am I supposed to get some work done???? ;)
I am very much distracted by all the reviews you post. Sorry Yak and Yeti was so mediocre for you.
We actually have only had one "not so good" experience there, but then we mostly go for lunch, not at the end of the day.
And I cannot remember having the wontons cold :confused3 I really like them, but I remember them being slightly warm.
Guess I will have to refresh my memory in August .... can't wait for the wok-fried green beans with sweet chili dipping sauce. ;)

Sad to say that I have only ever had one margarita at Disney - it was frozen and disgusting. Obviously I am going wrong somewhere and must try harder to understand the wonderful world of margaritas.

I see you had my problem with wine in the room - a lack of something suitable to drink it from.

Sorry yak and yeti was disappointing. We are trying it in October for the first time. I always thought the wontons were served warm :confused3

What a shame about Yak & Yeti. We've only ever had nice meals there but I agree to an extent that the food is somewhat 'mall-ish'. We're just going to go for the wontons in October, which I just love. They've always been warm when I've had them too.

Monday 21st May - Yak & Yeti

Yak & Yeti

He thought this was just "OK"

Nothing really bad about it but it just didn’t ‘wow’ him

He even mentioned that he thought the ribs and Flame Tree BBQ were nicer :upsidedow

Your husband must be related to my BIL. He liked the ribs at Flametree better than Y&Y's, too. My BIL raves about Flametree's ribs.

Wow - the one thing I really enjoyed at Yak and Yeti was the wonton dessert. They shouldn't have been served cold. Agreed on the rest of the food (which doesn't surprise me as Y&Y is owned by the same company that runs Rainforest Cafe and T-Rex).

BTW, I love Pinkberry! The other day I got strawberry froyo topped with balsamic vinegar there - wonderful. :goodvibes

So sorry to read that you didn't enjoy Yak and Yeti as much as we do. However, we've always had our wonton's warm not cold. Hopefully, that'll not be the consistent case.

Sorry that Yak & Yeti wasn't that great. We have only been there for lunch but really enjoyed it. I can't wait to read more! :goodvibes

Oh no Linda, I'm so sorry that you were disappointed with Yak and Yeti. we have an ADR there in August and, even though I trust your judgement, I have read so many positive reviews that we will keep it. I just hope it doesn't turn out to be a bad experience for us too. I wonder if maybe they'd already screwed themselves when they messed up your Margarita :lmao:

Just reading everyone else's comments, it looks like they should have been served warm :confused3

You may have a point about us visiting at the end of the day instead of lunch, the restaurant was pretty much empty when we left so perhaps they just took their eye off the ball

I see you had my problem with wine in the room - a lack of something suitable to drink it from.

At least I resisted drinking it straight from the bottle :lmao:

Sorry yak and yeti was disappointing. We are trying it in October for the first time. I always thought the wontons were served warm :confused3

My entree was actually pretty good but for us, there are better dinner options. Seems like they messed up our wontons but DH did actually ask a server if they should be warm and he said 'no' - looks like they just didn't want to get us another serving :sad2:

Aha - the hot wonton evidence is stacking up

DH nearly always gets the ribs from Flame Tree - he loves them :cloud9:

I keep meaning to google Pinkberry, have they got stores all over the US?
I'd be in there everyday if there was one in London :cloud9:

Sounds like they were just trying to rush us out of the door then :rolleyes1

Lot's more yummy meals coming up :goodvibes

I wonder if maybe they'd already screwed themselves when they messed up your Margarita :lmao:

You know me too well Joh :lmao:

Thats too bad about Yak and Yeti. Our wontons were so hot I had to let them cool off.

Yep, there are Pinkberry locations all over the place! My first time trying it was in Los Angeles, so I was delighted to find out that they're everywhere.

And according to their site, there are 2 Pinkberry stores in London, although I don't know if the locations are convenient for you (still, it's better than having to fly across the Atlantic). :goodvibes

Wow! Sorry about Y&Y... I love FT BBQ so perhaps I'll stick with that for now. Thanks for keeping the great reviews coming. :goodvibes

Thanks to your Pinkberry reference, I began craving it really badly, so I stopped by earlier tonight. I got strawberry yogurt with strawberries, watermelon, and balsamic vinegar. It was delicious! If you end up checking out one of the Pinkberry's around London (and if they have the same flavors and toppings), I highly recommend the strawberry + balsamic combo. :cloud9:

On my, ours weren't just a little bit cool they were stone cold

Well would you believe it, there is one just 5 miles from my office, and I thought it was so exotic :rotfl:

Wow! Sorry about Y&Y... I love FT BBQ so perhaps I'll stick with that for now. Thanks for keeping the great reviews coming. :goodvibes

So sad you have finished your reviews :sad2:, I will be waiting patiently for your August dining review :thumbsup2

Magic Kingdom

Today we headed to the Magic Kingdom and after watching the opening show we picked up some Space Mountain FPs and then headed straight to the Main Street Bakery :goodvibes

There was quite a few people in line when we arrived but it moved quickly and soon enough we were sitting outside at our favourite spot enjoying our treats

Paradise!

This is just such a wonderful place to sit and enjoy your breakfast, so peaceful :cloud9:

I knew exactly what I wanted before I arrived!

Cinnamon Roll – Main Street Bakery

This was good but not the greatest Cinnamon Roll I have ever had, it wasn’t quite as ‘gooey’ as I would like, but sitting at these lovely little tables just off Main Street more than made up for this

This was DHs choice

cd2c3326.jpg

Blueberry Muffin

He loved this and commented how wonderfully fresh it was :thumbsup2

We spent most of the morning visiting our favourite attractions and playing the Sorcerers Of The Magic Kingdom game (loved this!)

e7464b1b.jpg

As we were strolling through Adventure Land we stopped off for a little treat

fb2ab827.jpg

661ce7dc.jpg

Citrus Swirl - orange slush with vanilla soft-serve ice cream

I’d read about the return of this old classic before our trip and it wasn’t something that we had ever tried so we picked two up and sat on a nearby bench to enjoy it.

These were a great treat on a hot day and we both really enjoyed them

If this was in a showdown with a Dole Whip, the Dole Whip would win though ;)

After a few more rides we were beginning to feel peckish and just happened to be strolling through Liberty Square past Sleepy Hollow

afab770a.jpg

Nutella and Fresh Fruit Waffle Sandwich

Yes, I know – not really a healthy lunch option is it, but at least we shared it between us and it did have some fruit on it :rolleyes1

The waffle itself was light and fluffy and the strawberries and blueberries were fresh and juicy.

At the risk of sounding like a complete glutton, I think it would have benefitted from some whipped cream as the nutella made the overall texture a little dry

Now that I had crossed off yet another of my ‘Must Try Snacks’ from my list we continued our way around MK before heading back to SSR for some relaxing pool time

23f02419.jpg

Well I did say ‘relaxing’

Coming Up Next - Earl Of Sandwich and Goofy’s Snack Company

What a wonderful MK update! :goodvibes

I haven't tried Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom yet, but I always see people playing it throughout MK. Maybe I'll give it a try sometime.

The Sleepy Hollow waffle is another thing I haven't tried. But the more pictures I see of it, the harder it is to resist. :rotfl:

I'm so happy you tried the citrus swirl! I agree - if I had to choose, the pineapple-vanilla swirl would win for me, but the citrus swirl is a nice change and it's great that MK brought back a classic, beloved snack. :thumbsup2

And I wish you good luck with the London Pinkberry - if you end up trying it, I'm interested in hearing if the flavors and toppings are different!
