That's the first time we had to wear a poncho in Disney! A Mar./April '11 TR DONE 9/5

WOW, two hours to see Rapunzel? That's insane! These people just paid for a day at Disney to wait in that line. I mean, I guess if people had annual passes or this was their second time at MK during the trip, but seriously, oy. That's a LONG time!

Aww, c'mon Sarah. We won't think you look like a dork! It's Buzz Lightyear! Getting to dance with him is the opposite of dorky!

I love that I actually know where some of your Poly pics were taken since we went to 'Ohana this past trip. Normally I don't have a clue about resort pics!

Great update and wonderful pictures of the Poly. Dream vacation includes staying here one day.

Love the Simba and Naveen Vinylmation. It's nice to get a Vinylmation that you like, but it's also fun to get one that's horrid and trade it for something better.

The Polynesian resort is so beautiful. Your pictures do it justice. I hope they do build a DVC resort there someday. That would be awesome.

I agree with Rachel- dancing with Buzz is always cool. Never dorky. :thumbsup2

That Simba was adorable!! I think that's my favorite of them all!

Great shots around the Poly...it really is such a gorgeous resort isn't it? One of these years I really want to watch Wishes from the beach at the Poly...isn't it funny though, it doesn't matter how many trips we've taken, there are still things we have never done!:thumbsup2

Those Rapunzel lines are insane (as we've discussed, I think!).

Loved your Polynesian pics, of course!! This trip, for an onsite regular room (non-suite), I believe the Poly was the most expensive. The discount was lower than the GF's so it would have actually been a little bit cheaper for us to stay there, but of course we stuck with the Poly. We just adore it, but it's SUCH a splurge. We cut back on things at home so we can do it!! Plus, the federal gov't helps us with the saving for it - we just use our tax return!!

I love when the characters do fun stuff like dance with you! One trip we went to chef mickeys and goofy played hangman with me! One of my favorite pictures from my last rip was with stitch and he gave me a high-five! :thumbsup2. I also loved the pictures you took around the polynesian. I love just taking a lot of time to roam around all the different resorts. Every trip my mom and I arrive early for our reservations when we eat at the resorts and this trip we walked around the Epcot/Boardwalk resort area which I personally LOVED!!!!! I now feel the need to look around those resorts as well as our typical resorts that we eat at. I think walking around the resorts is one of my favorite things to do in disney! I love everything is disney though so that isn't a strong lead. Can't wait to hear more!

haha, that's awesome Goofy played Hangman! Love it. It really is fun to visit the resorts. Hopefully some day I'll be able to make it to all of them. I know my sister has been making a Disney "bucket list" for her CP and I'm pretty sure that was one of her goals.

Great update!

I'm sorry you never got to meet Rapunzel and Flynn. I don't understand why but I can never find the Fairytale Garden, it's weird. Its like Disney doesn't want me going near there LOL Moving on... Love the Vinylmation you found! I just watched The Lion King for the first time in a long time today and Naveen is my favorite prince, because he is just so hilarious, so that's pretty awesome you got his vinylmation :) I totally agree with your sister on going to the Polynesian. When I was last in Disney my friends and I had a few little... incidents with the monorail and the bus and... well we kept on ending up at the Polynesian. The place looked so pretty and we almost ate at Captain Cook's. I definitely want to stay there. I love the pictures you took, especially of the Grand Floridian and the Contemporary. I hope the rumor about the Poly closing for this big refurb isn't true, so I could possibly persuade my mom to stay at the Poly for my next trip. It just looks so nice and its one of the original Disney resorts. Can't wait to hear about your next adventures! Update as soon as you can :mickeyjum

We may have had another opportunity to see Rapunzel and Flynn, so stay tuned...popcorn::

Thanks! I'm kind of addicted to vinylmation even though they're so pointless. But they're so fun. I love Naveen too. He is definitely one of the best princes.

I hope you get to stay at the Polynesian some day. It is an amazing resort. One thing we always liked about it was how it's so close to the hustle and bustle of the Magic Kingdom but it's so peaceful there. :cloud9:

I know exactly what you mean about having the "What do we do now?!" moments! We had that moment several times during our trip, it was just so weird getting things done so quickly. lol I love your picture with Buzz too, that's cute that you got to dance with him! When I met Buzz he just kinda stood there. (I've always been a Team Woody kinda girl though anyways:laughing:). The Polynesian looks so beautiful, every time I see pictures of it I feel as if I've been transported to Hawaii or someplace very tropical.
Can't wait to hear about the best safari ever!!

I know, right?! It sounds weird because there's so much to do. Maybe it's a sign we go too much. LOL! Nah, never.

Finally going to update about DAK now. :)

:scared1: I can't believe Claire was hugging that mean bear! I don't care how cute he is, I'm never gonna like him

What a lovely stroll around the Poly, it's such a beautiful resort, I hope I get the chance to stay there one day!

LOL yeah, he is mean but we still kind of like Lotso. :rolleyes1

I hope we get to stay at the Poly again some day. It really does spoil you!

I love that Simba vinylmation!!!! The Naveen one is pretty cool too.

I forgot how the Poly doesn't have DVC. I wonder why?? It seems like it would be really popular. I guess the demand for regular visitors is too high to divide it up :confused3 I feel your pain on favourite resort withdrawal though. I'm always going back to WL and scowling at the people who are staying there

Yeah, the Polynesian is so popular so they probably don't have any need to put DVC there. And now with the new Aulani in Hawaii...but man do I miss staying there. :guilty:

That made me think of a cute story about one of the girls I babysit for. They had just found out that Lotso was bad (remember how you didn't think he was going to be bad at first glance?) and she was really surprised. She then said in a sad/upset voice "The bear is bad!?!?!?!?" it was really cute! I then had to break the news to her that yes he is bad. I then reassured her that I was shocked and upset 2 when I found that out.

I was kind of surprised too when he turned out to be so grumpy!

Took me a while to get here, but I'm in! Now I just have to catch up on all the updates...

Welcome!

The Simba and Naveen vinylmations are so cute!

How wonderful to have visited so many attractions by noon that you had extra time to just wander! I love the pictures of the Polynesian. :)

It was great to have such low crowds and be able to get so much done. :thumbsup2 I hope the crowds aren't too bad for you guys...not too much longer now!

So funny! I don't blame her for being shocked, I thought for sure that rotten bear was going to redeem himself at the end of the movie, but nope! He got what he deserved though

I do feel sort of bad for Lotso though...well, maybe not. haha

I'm in love with your Poly pictures! They all turned out reallly beautiful! Your Buzz picture is so cute, I must meet him one of these days

I'm dying to go see African Cats! I haven't seen any of the other DisneyNature movies but I'm going to have to order them from Netflix.

Wow this was probably one of my favorite updates...I LOVEEEE :lovestruc the Polynesian!! It is my dream to stay there, at least just for a night or two. You seriously just made me miss it there even more than I already did because your pictures around looking at the GF, CR and of the Poly are just so nice!!

Can't wait for more popcorn::

Yeah, you should order them! They are both great!

Aww, glad you enjoyed the update. If we ever get to stay there again it would have to be for a looong time...I don't think one night would be enough! haha

Girl, your update was so good! It pulled at my heartstrings and made me miss being there even more!

Some of the best times of the trip are Resort exploring! :thumbsup2

Aww, I know what you mean. Even I miss being there looking at the pictures. Why can't we just live there? :)

I know right! Now whenever I see that bear I think of that story. I have to say I was really sad when I found that out. Before hearing out anything about the plot and which of the new toys were good and which new toys were bad I thought lotso was adorable and pegged him as the toy I would want. One thing is for sure now I would NEVER buy that bear! and yes he did get what he deserves!

It's funny how he's so mean in the movie but the one at the parks is nice and happy. LOL.

The Poly is SO gorgeous!!!! I cannot WAIT to stay there in July!!! :woohoo:

You are so lucky...I am envious!

I so wanted to stay at the Poly, and with my 40% discount, it still was over $400 a nite. I'm sure this is one of the most expensive times to stay there, because of Spring Break. You really are paying for the whole experience-it is even priced higher than the Grand Floridian by $5.00.

Geez, that is insane. It's amazing how popular that place is.

I remember it snowing in WI in the "Spring" it was so weird to me.

Ha!! When I moved down to Florida last July from Wisconsin, my first thoughts getting off the plane was Chick-Fil-A and then find our rides. Sadly, I didn't get Chick-Fil-A at the airport (due to some unexpected drama) but luckily my dad had some waiting for me when I got home.

My mouth watered up at the sight of those yummy chicken nuggets.

The room is gorgeous, I love that color scheme.

I've often wondered the same thing about the bus spiels. They've got such perfect timing.

I've never seen the MK opening show. My family never sees the point of getting to the parks before opening, guess it's a drawback of being a Florida resident.

Very cool to go to a Disney show, did you have to drive far to get to it? I hope to one day see a Disney musical.

I wish my internet connection wasn't so slow so I could watch all your videos.

11 rides in 3 hrs, not bad at all,

Too funny about the lady at Laugh floor.

Yes, even though it is spring, some winter-like weather has still been lingering around longer this year. Boo. But it's supposed to be nice this week!

Chick-Fil-A is so good. Love those nuggets.

Oh, you have to go see the MK opening show atleast once! As I've said so many times, it is worth it!

No, we didn't have to go far at all to see the BATB show. It was just downtown and we are only about 15 minutes from there. That's one nice thing about being near Milwaukee. :)

I enjoyed seeing Poly too. When we had an O'hana ADR we wandered a bit. I thought it was all very lush. I would like to stay there, but I have to win the lotto first.

Kadence loved meeting Lotso, she said he was so soft;)

haha, I have a feeling winning the lottery is the only way I'll ever get to stay at the Polynesian again too.

We didn't meet him this trip, but we enjoyed meeting Lotso too.

I finally caught up on all of the updates. Sounds great so far!

About 7 years ago, I was actually in a production of BatB (well, a sort of children's version...a couple of the songs were shortened, and the choreography wasn't as intense...and I was the oldest cast member at 21). I was fortunate enough to be Gaston. And while I haven't seen a Broadway (or off-Broadway) production of it, I did manage to see the Japanese-Broadway equivalent of it and thought it was fantastic (although, the actor playing Beast was just kinda so-so...there were times where the Beast seemed more like the Cowardly Lion).

Oh wow, that's cool you were in a version of BATB. If you ever get the chance to see the Broadway versions of the shows, I'm sure you'd enjoy them if the Japanese version was awesome.

Decided to get even more excited about my upcoming trip (if that is possible) to check out some TR's. Yours is the first one that I have started and it has definatly put me in the Disney Spirit. You have definatly convinced me to make to rope drop.:thumbsup2

It appears that we might be neighbors. . .Kind of. I live in the northern part of Illinois. Just west of Gurnee Mills and Great America. We are currently flying out of Midway, but I can't believe I didn't check prices out of Milwaukee. I will definatly have to do this next time.:confused3

Your TR is great, and I am just loving all the pics. I must confess that I am jealous that you have gotten to go to WDW so much. This will only be my second trip and I wish I could go all the time. Maybe I will win the lotto one day and be able to buy into DVC. A girl can dream right.:cloud9:

Can't wait to read more.popcorn::

First, welcome to my TR! Second, I'm so glad it's got you in the Disney spirit. I'm jealous you are going soon! Rope drop is awesome. You won't regret doing it. :thumbsup2

We are kind of neighbors then! We've been to Great America a few times and it's only about an hour and a half from here.

We are really lucky we get to go so often. When my sisters and I were younger we only went once every other year. Now that we're in DVC I don't know how we ever survived (or I ever survived, I should say) because now it seems like I can't go more than few months without wanting to go back again.

Thanks again for reading!

Those early mornings always sound so nice...until it's time to wake up, that is!

I loved all your Polynesian pictures! We stayed there once and it was paradise!

I'm going to check out your Dad's trip report--thanks for posting the link!

:goodvibes

I will admit sometimes waking up early is hard but like I've said, it's definitely worth it. I'd rather get up early than wait in long lines.

Yay, glad you are going to read my dad's TR! :)

WOW, two hours to see Rapunzel? That's insane! These people just paid for a day at Disney to wait in that line. I mean, I guess if people had annual passes or this was their second time at MK during the trip, but seriously, oy. That's a LONG time!

I love that I actually know where some of your Poly pics were taken since we went to 'Ohana this past trip. Normally I don't have a clue about resort pics!

Yeah, it was crazy how popular they were. It was just like Tinkerbell and the fairies.

haha, maybe I'll post the pic of me with Buzz later. We'll see. :)

Great update and wonderful pictures of the Poly. Dream vacation includes staying here one day.

Glad you enjoyed the update!

:thumbsup2

I have never done trading but my sister did. When we were at Epcot we saw one of the trading boxes and it had a Hamm in it. She ended up buying one just so she could trade for it. :rotfl:

If the Poly ever had DVC, I would end up buying (though I'd be in a lot of debt if I did!). Come on Disney, what are you waiting for?!

I agree and that's one of the reasons why it's so fun going back. There's always something new to try. :thumbsup2

Those Rapunzel lines are insane (as we've discussed, I think!).

They sure are insane!

That's so cool you guys stay there so often. I guess I should be grateful we ever got to stay there since so many people want to.

I'm in love with your Poly pictures! They all turned out reallly beautiful! Your Buzz picture is so cute, I must meet him one of these days

Aww, thanks! You lucky girl getting to stay there in July. :)

I hope you get to meet Buzz!

Sunday, March 27, 2011 cont'd (part 5)

After our visit to the Polynesian, it was time for a break so we went back to the MK to get a bus to Old Key West. When we got back to our room, we found a little surprise waiting for us on our dresser:

206612_741472596014_20305212_38453626_1696286_n.jpg

Birthday cards from Mickey! Even though it wasn't our birthdays (well, mine was a couple weeks before and Claire's was a couple weeks after). They came with a special photopass card that was also a 20% off coupon, which I actually just used the other day to order a couple of our pics before they expired.

Our plan for the rest of the day was to go to the Animal Kingdom and then probably back to the MK for Wishes. Because DAK (ever since our Backstage Safari tour I always have to call it DAK!) was closing at 8, we took a really short break, maybe an hour if that. The Animal Kingdom is a great park to go to in the late afternoon because it closes early. We were hoping to be able to do the three big attractions: the safari, Everest, and Dinosaur.

It seemed like as soon as we got to the bus stop, the AK bus arrived. That seemed to be the trend pretty much all week (not that I'm complaining or anything)! So before long we arrived at the park.

215342_743394005494_20305212_38485587_150972_n.jpg

It was sort of funny because it was probably around 4:00 when we got there so most of the people were leaving. I know Claire made some comment about how it seemed like we were the only ones going INTO the park. We made our way through the Oasis and finally spotted the majestic Tree of Life.

208745_743394065374_20305212_38485590_4425479_n.jpg

Here's an interesting one Claire took.
197984_740919873674_20306951_38442338_2722910_n.jpg

We went to check out the attraction board. Along with the three rides I was hoping to be able to see Flights of Wonder but the last show was at 3:15 or something. We'd have to save that for another day. Oh well. But otherwise, wait times were not that bad. The safari was listed at 20 minutes so that was our first stop. I spotted this bird as we were waiting. I'm pretty sure it's an East African Crowned Crane or something like that. I know they have them in the FOW show.

216664_743394155194_20305212_38485594_2763937_n.jpg

We had to wait a little bit but it definitely wasn't twenty minutes. I was curious to see how many animals we'd see since it was later afternoon and sometimes the animals are nowhere to be found. But it was surprisingly a great safari! Warning: picture overload coming up!

Right away we saw an okapi.
206411_743394210084_20305212_38485597_6002101_n.jpg

And this guy.

The rhino.

198876_740920682054_20306951_38442353_7486923_n.jpg

When we got to the crocodiles I noticed the rope bridge that was added for the new Wild Africa Trek tour. Kinda scary walking over the crocs but I bet it's really cool too! I'd love to do that tour one day.

199132_740920781854_20306951_38442354_7408804_n.jpg

And then we got to the best part of the safari...the savanna! Not that I don't love all the animals but I always look forward to this part because you can see some of my favorites!
217343_743394429644_20305212_38485610_1688775_n.jpg

The Thomsons gazelles are so cute.

215329_743394539424_20305212_38485616_2042566_n.jpg

Love the giraffes!
207059_743394604294_20305212_38485619_637403_n.jpg

I could watch them all day. They are just so graceful. Amazing!

207965_743394694114_20305212_38485625_3503291_n.jpg

We also saw another one of my favorites, the elephant!
217125_743394724054_20305212_38485627_6914093_n.jpg

I don't know why, but this picture is weird to me. It's like the elephant is saying "what'chu looking at?" Must be the way his (or her) head is turned. haha

207582_743394833834_20305212_38485633_6156282_n.jpg

An ankole cattle. I don't think I'll ever forget the names of these guys after staying at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
205692_743394928644_20305212_38485636_8036556_n.jpg

So as you can see, there were quite a few animals out. We were soon approaching the lion rock. Now, we've taken so many safaris over the years and you pretty much expect to see nothing when you get there. The lions always seem to be sleeping or hiding somewhere. Well. Not today. Today, we were in for a treat. First of all, I started freaking out because you could KIND OF see the male lion. LOL.
205130_743394968564_20305212_38485638_6942485_n.jpg

Shocker! But that was only part of it. I have to say, my heart is kind of racing right now as I try to type this up. I'm just not exactly sure how to put into words what we saw next. As the male lion was lounging in the grass, the female decide to grace us with her presence RIGHT OUT ON THE ROCK!!!!!!! There she was, laying majestically, watching over everything. Luckily for me, I was on the left side of the vehicle so I was hoping to be able to get a decent picture as we rounded the bend. I think I managed to do alright. :)

206467_743395053394_20305212_38485640_1806245_n.jpg

I mean seriously, HOW AMAZING IS THAT?!?! Sorry for all the capital letters but it was just amazing. Everyone knows how rare it is to see the lions and a lot of people in our truck were just in awe that she was out. It made my day...so exciting. I could not wait to tell Dad about that one. And that picture has to be one of my favorites of the whole trip. I was just in shock. But boy, what a great way to end the safari!

I'll leave you with one more picture of the lioness that Claire took...gorgeous!
207676_740921275864_20306951_38442359_1509827_n.jpg

up next: More Animal Kingdom fun!!!

Oh my god that picture of the lioness is amazing!!! Those lions are always asleep whenever we go. Maybe the trick is to go later in the afternoon?! lol who knows, I am so jealous though! And I had no idea that the photopass from the birthday card was a coupon as well. I got one of the cards too and we were going to order a few pictures before they expired in a few days. So thanks for writing that, otherwise I never would have known!:thumbsup2

GREAT PICS OF THE LIONS!!!!

I love the birthday card too :) Funny how they changed them a little bit in the week or so that you went after me!

I loved going to AK late afternoon too! After the parade the crowds just leave, it's crazy!

Two updates, how fun. I know I would never wait 2 hours to meet a character, but I would feel awful telling my child that the wait was too long. Crazy how long some people will wait though. I love all the Poly pictures, have never stayed but would sure love to someday.
The pictures from your safari are pretty amazing. I am guessing that you used your zoom feature, but still, how beautiful was that photo? I don't think I have ever gone to AK that late in the day, but if most people were leaving it was probably a pretty good plan.
It was great to see you the other night:), my somewhat planned, random Sarah sighting.....:rolleyes1 I really love all the new products that are in the store, and the cookies were so good, did you try one? I was with my DS, who is my favorite Disney companion. We started going on sister trips about 17 years ago, and we always have so much fun. I have never traded vinylmations, yours are so cute. But in November we did trade pins, and I picked up some very cute vinylmation ones.

Aww the gazelles are cute. I like the zoomed in picture of the gazelle sitting by herself.

Wow! That's the best picture of a female lion in KS I've ever seen! Lucky :thumbsup2 The lioness looks so regal. It makes me wonder if the late afternoon ride is the best to see the animals up and about?

The safari is my absolute favorite thing to do. I love the lioness shot, it is amazing she was out front there for you all!
I wondered about AK for a half day with lines and early closing, glad you found it bearable.

Great pictures.
The CM driving the trucks always say grab another fast pass for the Safari ride. Because no two rides are ever the same.
