Oh today I spent a little time doing one of my favorite things: calling Disney!
I finally took time to call the Disney Florists to get more details about the gift that I am ordering for Joe. Im such a sap, I kept getting teary eyed just knowing how much this will mean to him.
The very helpful customer service person (Debbie) read the entire plaque to me, and even went out to their store room so that she could read to me what was written on the medal. When you give this you can really personalize it with a specific reason why you are honoring your hero. I just love this.
The past few years DH has really struggled with his career. He retired from a 20 year as a law enforcement officer (LEO), then took a part time LEO job at a small dept. A full time non-LEO job came open which he took, and HATED HATED HATED .it was a blessing, however, when I was laid off of my ft job in 09. Then he found another PT LEO job that he did along with his FT hated job .so with a few exceptions he worked 7 days a week for about 2 years. This past fall, when I found a new FT job with benefits (but with less take home $$ even than my unemployment was) he quit the hated job and tried even harder for FT LEO work, his true calling .
Its been an uphill battle. At this point he is competing with much much younger men, straight out of college and the military. Veterans receive extra points that pretty much guarantee that they will rank higher even than someone with 20+ years experience. Add to that the self-doubt that is inevitable when door after door is closed, the serious financial challenges, plus the fact that as a part timer he is effectively on call all the time, and its been rough. He is such a great LEO, so good at what he does, and such a great dad, that when I learned about this gift I KNEW it was the perfect gift. Its just as over the top as our whole trip but will fit in perfect. SO I was super thrilled to order it for him, all personalized, and accompanied by what will hopefully be a Mr. Incredible balloon and will be delivered tour room the day before his birthday so that he can wear the medal on his day. Dang I am teary eyed thinking about it.
THEN .cuz its pretty dead here at work today, I called Disney Reservations to make an appointment at the Harmony Barbershop. Katie is going to LOVE this. Katie can only tolerate a pony tail for an hour or so, a BBB do would be a waste --- those BBB hair dos look so tight on top of the little girls hair, it makes my scalp hurt just thinking about it. A trim & some glitter is great for her and well have it done almost as soon as we hit the Magic Kingdom - a 10 am appt. (maybe I can convince Joe to go get FPs for SM while Katie & I stay at the Barber, or he stays & I run).
YIPPPEEE 20 days!!!
