The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Yeah, that Tables in Wonderland saves us a lot of $$! I am buying an ap for the upcoming trip just so I can get that card. Between the food and booze discount, and the free parking for ap holders, I come out ahead.

Here's a photo of last night's grilled pizza:

Sorry everyone just a quick check-in. Mother-in-law decided (she was out of it from the meds.) she had to use the restroom she just tried to get up. Well with no hip joint you aren't going to walk any where so down to the floor she went. Been at hospitol all yesterday and today. I may go see her now but may not touch her.

Sending you hugs and :wizard:! You have too much to deal with now and your poor MIL, no one should have that happen

I may need good wishes myself coming up here soon. :headache:

My DM offered to help! :scared:

What this means is, she will make "suggestions", then get her feelings hurt when I tell her no,

Sending you patience! My Mom was OCD as well and there were times it was a trial. She simply could not wait for anyone to do what she wanted done. Gail would just about strangle her, Donny was sure he would come home and find her a frozen little lump attached to a garbage pail in a snowbank and I would try to get to things before she did. I was not often successful so :dance3:I really do widh you luck!

Can you tell me how the ducts come out and how much mess you need to deal with. I want my AC/heat ducts cleaned too. I took the grills down to clean and the ducts were :scared: so I cleaned where I could reach but they were bad!

I didn't post earlier what I'm having for dinner - I get to drink a gallon on scope prep!  My procedures are in the morning. I've been on a mostly liquid only diet since Sunday so here's hoping it won't be too bad. I'm sucking down one more Iced Mocha before starting  I'm so hungry!!!

Good news!! I went to my first WW meeting in two MONTHS since my crazy summer schedule started and I still lost weight :woohoo:

Aimee- good luck today!

Congrats on the weight loss! You may have made some
bad" choices but you made enough good ones to get there!

Sheryl- I was wondering if you could hire an aide privately. Buddy's cousin worked for and agency but one of her couples asked her to come in on her own time for some additional assistance. I know that it is frowned upon but she gave good care and was able to provide more than if she was on the agency time.

We always do the DDP. I used to keep track of the cost but the last tiem did not really pay attention. We generally added some appetizers on at most meals but did share them. I think if I was doing more signature dining I would use the DxDDP because we would get the app and dessert, and we buy the mugs anyway. We tip at least 18 to 20% so that is a wash as well.

If Bob checks Debs site for prices and you are honest about what you both will use if you are on the plan, you can tell if it is going to be at least a break even plan. I think that is the key....will you use it if you buy it? If you will use it and enjoy it is probably going to be worth it.

Buddy says he could live on counter service but in reality he eats at least two full meals a day on vacation. He also gets an app and may skip dessert but I never do. He also hits the snack stands for cold drinks and ice cream, so our food budget is always more than he estimates it will be. Bottom line we like to relax and enjoy a good meal and he "needs" breakfast every morning. (He tried to tell a friend he does not eat full breakfasts on vacation but he was fibbing! he made such a scene whe we stayed CL at ALK and I told hom we had no breakfast scheduled, we were having fruit and cereal and muffins. He ended up heading down for breakfast a few time)

DInner last night was a non started. Buddy tried to tell me he did nto want me to "bother" cooking. What he ended up telling me ios that he just wanted sandwiches so he had the chicken salad I made and I had leftover brushetta pasta and chicken.

Tonight :confused3 I give up! I am going to cook the salmon no matter what, I can put it on my salad if he des not want a hot meal.

O I feel for you Amy I hope it goes well for you. Great job with the weight.:cheer2:

I forgot something I wanted to ask!

DH is trying to figure out if we should try the DDP for the October trip. He even did a spread sheet on it! He is still unsure.

Do any of you that eat at mostly Signature Rests. use the DDP?

We'd have to pay for the DDP because we are DVCer's. The cost would be $560. We have 5 sign. rests booked & one breakfast.

I have ALL my receipts from the last 4 trips. Let me know which restaurants again and I will tell you what we spent. We always do the dining because then it is paid for up front and my spending money doesnt have to pay for it!

My dinner came out good. I made some Tomato, Basil and Mozzarella crustini's for the appetizer. Jeff made a pitcher of mango mojitos to have also. I needed that with my MIL :headache:

For dinner we had filet wrapped in bacon, cooked rare for Kady, I had grilled chicken. Sides were: potatoes and onions in a foil pouch, roasted zucchini, onions, eggplant and asparagus and grilled corn on the cob. We had a lemon merangue pie and an apple pie for dessert but she left before we ate it. No worries, because i woke up and Jeff at the WHOLE LEMON PIE!!!

So I have pleny of leftovers for dinner tonight. I made an extra filet and chicken breast so Kady and I are all set!

Have a great day!

She seemed to like it. The Kirby people showed up right as I was grilling the meat. I forgot to cancel them. So lets just say Jeff was less than thrilled. But when they saw I was eating the cleaned the basement carpet and left. No hassles and no salespitches.

I think my dinner was really good. I have lots of broccoli and eggs to use. Anyone have a quiche recipe?

Sheryl- this is the mail she sent with the "recipe" for Wrinkle Release

You know that I added a little bit more than called for, I used an empty Febreeze bottle I had, the one that was about 22 OZ

I make my own Downey Wrinkle spray and refill the bottle! Costs me |
| PENNIES and works great! No more ironing for me |
| |
| fill bottle almost to the top with water, add a couple of T fabric |
| softener and a couple T alcohol |
| |
| You can also stuff a bounce sheet into the bottle with water and a |
| couple T alcohol! |
| |
| This stuff has cut my ironing time down to bare bones! I don't even |
| have to waste electricity by putting things in the dryer for a few |
| minutes to iron themselves!

I looked for a make your own Febreeze but I am afraid of that one. It calls for cheap vodka. Has anyone ever made Febreeze and how did it work?

Baked Broccoli Frittata Recipe #307344

This was my introduction to the concept of the frittata, from a Light Cuisine cookbook of my mother's. I have used every combination from the 6 eggs and 2 egg whites, to 4 eggs and a cup of egg substitute, to 2 cups of egg substitute, all with success (though it's a bit tastier with a real egg or two included).
by OneEye
45 min | 15 min prep
SERVES 6 , 1 frittata

  1. Heat oil and butter in a wide non-stick frying pan over medium heat. Add onion and cook, stirring often, until onion begins to soften (about 3 minutes).
  2. Stir in garlic, parsley, broccoli, and basil. Continue cooking, stirring often, until broccoli is bright green (about 3 minutes).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in salt, pepper, and 2 tablespoons of the cheese.
  4. In a large bowl, beat eggs and egg whites until well blended. Stir in broccoli mixture.
  5. Spray a shallow 2 quart baking dish with cooking spray. Pour the broccoli mixture into the dish. Sprinkle evenly with the remaining Parmesan cheese.
  6. Bake, uncovered, in a 350 degree oven until frittata is firm in center when touched (25 to 30 minutes)

Broccoli Frittata Recipe #41711

Looking for recipes to use up my late broccoli before it bolts to flower in the heat, I came across this beauty.(Thanks to the FormulaForLife website.) I'm about to have it for lunch...YUM!

  4. Add seasonings (eg. freshly ground black pepper) to taste.

  6. Cook gently without stirring until base of frittata is cooked and golden.
  7. Place frypan under grill until top of frittata is golden brown and firm.
  8. Cut into wedges and serve hot or cold.

I'm trying a new recipe "amazing slow-cooker pork tenderloin". If it lives up to its name, I'll post it! Sides are smothered potatoes and slow cooked broccoli.

Have a great day everyone!

Wonder where kingcrab has been??????

Thanks for the Happy Birthday wishes for Elizabeth. We had a very nice night. Half way through dinner the power went out though. Wow, it is very quite in a restaurant when the power goes out. LOL. We went to Cold Stone and got an ice cream cake and then went to Stephanie & Marty's for presents and cake. We got home around 10:30. A fun night.

It is storming and raining here again today. I swear I am building an Ark and I will start gathering my 2 x 2's after work. I want my sun!!

I haven't gotten to read back again and catch up. But I will I promise. The Reporter goes out today so I will have some free time later. Please forgive me but I have you all taken covered in my thoughts and prayers. BBL

WFDT ~ Grilled hamburgers, watermelon and chips.

Hey Everyone,

Sorry I didn't check in last night but I was emotionally drained.

Yesterday was so positive in many ways but very tough in others.
They spoke so much of the trauma the baby has already endured, losing a birth Mom & their foster Mom. I asked if it was a void similiar to experiencing a parent death (I lost my Dad when I was 8 months old & it's always something in the back of my mind) & the Social Worker said yes so we talked about that for a long time & it brought up so much as well as having rehash the infertility & all the babies we have lost.

We made it though & now onto the next step. Thank you for your thoughts & prayers.

On a positive note Emily is back at Billy Elliot auditions today so we may have some exciting news tonight & I'm trying to focus on that. Greg & Mom are at work & I'm glad to be alone to have some silence & thinking to do.

I scanned quickly on yesterday & we use the Tables of Wonderland card & love it...especially because drinks are included.

Ann~ I hope Emma's little bottom is better.

Charlene are you out there??

Here is the quiche recipe I used last week....(I cheated & used store bought crust). We added some crab meat as well:

  • 10 large eggs
  • 2 cups creme fraiche
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh thyme
***I didn't have creme fraiche & added 2 cups shredded cheese instead.
cut the salt way down because of the cheese~

It's a very forgiving recipe....

Thinking of you all:grouphug:

Maria, so glad you checked in. Enjoy having time to yourself.

Sheryl, you can use both TIW and DDP together. We have have found that the TIW works better for us and have not been getting the DDP on any of our recent trips.

WFD- chicken cutlets w/ gravy, mashed potatoes, cranberry, & [eas.

Hey Y'all,

Gosh it's already afternoon! I got up when the aide came this morning, fixed Bob breakfast, saw him off. Then I went back to bed & slept til 11:15! Without pain meds! Gosh it's going to be hard to ever get back to any routine. The dinner Angelina had cooked was yummy, I'll have to go look for that recipe she used for the mac & cheese. It was so good.

Yes, we've been happy using the TiW card. Bob is just thinking very budget minded lately. The cost of the surgery & the aides is really putting a very large whole in our checkbook. So I'm trying to help him research it, so he can be happy. He is usually very good at not counting pennies while we are on vacation. I want to keep it that way! ;)

The pizza looks great!!! :thumbsup2 So tell me how hard was it to do?

Can you tell me how the ducts come out and how much mess you need to deal with.

Nancy, I've had the ducts cleaned twice. The company we used did not make any mess at all! They used this large vacuum machine in the ducts, some dust fell around each vent but they vacuumed that up. The house smelled cleaner & it made a big difference with my allergies!

Deb's site?? I don't know anything about it. Where can I find it? I really don't want to make Marisa go dig through all of her receipts! Nevermind I found it!
I'm laughing over Buddy and breakfast! He doesn't really eat a full breakfast but concierge breakfast wasn't enough for him!!! Oh my :rotfl:

Thanks! I've never made one for febreeze. I don't think I'd try the vodka one either! I mean if you spray it on a jacket, you won't stink but you will smell like a drunk!

Wonder where kingcrab has been??????

Sounds yummy! You know I was wondering about him myself. I was hoping to see what kind of spread he had put out for the 4th! Hope all is well with him.

Thanks for the Happy Birthday wishes for Elizabeth. We had a very nice night. .

Glad you had fun even with the power outage! Hope the rain dries up. :wizard:

Maria, I'm glad you checked too! I know it must have been a very emotional day. Take some time for yourself, just know we are praying & sending good thoughts your way.:hug:

Maria- I cannot imagine how draining yesterday was. Having someone to discuss all that you have probably kept close to your heart had to be exhausting.

Sheryl- here is the website I was talking about. There are menus and prices for the Disney Restaurants.
http://allears.net/din/dining.htm

Thanks for the duct cleaning info. I was shocked at the dust in there! We had a lot of work done and I'm sure that a lot of that construction dust is stashed in those ducts :scared:

Yeah, Buddy has a very selective memory of his vacation habits. I admit that I like to have good meals too but I admit my food addiction, he is oblivious to his :scared: If there were no eggs it was not breakfast

I included the DDP because I did not want him comparing prices there to those at home.

Nancy, I forgot to answer you about hiring an aide. When we signed with this agency, you agree to not make any other arrangements with thier employees or even up to 180 days after you stop using the agency. So we couldn't hire the girl we like on our own. After all the trouble we've had with some of the people they have sent here, we'd be mighty leary of running an ad to find someone. We would also either have to worry about taxes, insurance, etc. DH does have a friend that runs a Temp Agency (oil field related) & we could put someone on through him. But he wasn't interested in running an ad & interviewing for us.

Even when I'm finished recovery we were hoping to keep someone on, 2 0r 3 times a wk to give me a break. So we are going to be trying to find another agency or finding someone ourselves. But for now, that is just too much to deal with.

Thanks I found the site.

Bob is usually very good about vacation costs & not flipping out or even watching what I spend. It's just all the expenses we're having right now, that has him worrying.

If you wanted to keep Buddy happy, you could just do breakfast & make sandwiches for the rest of the day! That wouldn't be much fun would it?!

Thats one of my questions I'll have to go ask. If you can use CS credits for Snack credits?
We don't do much CS at all during F&W, but we do a lot of eating & drinking at the booths!

Yes you can but I am not sure if you could use them at F&W though. If I remember correctly they are two snacks for one CS.

Dinner tonight may be salmon, I had Cheesecake Factory for lunch. I am stuffed and I have a piece of Pineapple Upside Down Cheesecake sitting here staring at me.
