The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Hey all, Vicki has pics on her FB page! She lives in a beautiful place! :goodvibes

Thank you Sheryl,Im glad you liked the pic's and yes I know Im biased but i think our bairns are cute too !!

Im glad the aid is workin out,but it makes me mad to think of some of these old folks homes. My dad worked for a construction company that built and ran care homes and he got so mad at the corners that got cut.He was just a blue collar worker so not much he could do but I know he tried damn hard and made his voice heard.

Don't say that about the extra hair ( my DH will freak out)...Emma has some there to. I told him she will lose it.

My wee sister had a right hairy back when she was a baby.

It did fall out but we still use it to good affect on the teasing !!

She sounds strong.....really holding up for her Mom. Hailey is handling all the changes very well. Kenny is being very supportive & strong.
Please continue prayers for all:grouphug:

Thanks you.
I think about Gretchen a lot.I watched my dad fight cancer and it is so hard.
I am so positive for her and sending love and good vibes ower the water.

Maria- Well there was tears ower the water as well.
Your love, commitment and enthusiasm shone through in your blog.
Sendin good vibes ower the water to you both tomorrow.

I went on a bike ride with the boy today. That and my climbing yesterday is the most exercise I have had since january.....and I feel great !! :yay:

Im going to step it up a wee bit and get my butt back to training by next month.

I CANT WAIT.

Oh, my camera is at my mums so I will post my pic's of the Gathering tomorrow.

Im so chuffed youse want to see them.....:)

My wee sister had a right hairy back when she was a baby.)

My sister had hair all over when she was born, my DM said she look like a monkey. The funny thing, she was born at Balboa Naval Hospital which is adjacent to the San Diego Zoo. :rotfl:

I spoke to Gretchen today~
Her Dad is starting to have some confusion & forgetting things, he had to undergo a transfusion for Anemia. The next day he felt a little better. Friday he had no treatment because he was dehydrated.

She sounds strong.....really holding up for her Mom. Hailey is handling all the changes very well. Kenny is being very supportive & strong.
Please continue prayers for all:grouphug:

Thank you for updating us, I think of her and worry. I am glad to know hat she and her family are doing okay

Maria- this makes it all seem so much more real! Ii never really thought about the baby trauma, so little and so many changes :sad1:

Ann- no tweezin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Vickie- it sounds like you had as busy but good weekend! I'm heading over to FB in the morning to enjoy the pics. I have not seem the albums that you or Maria posted yet but tomorrow I only have Nola and she is not playing in a pac n play so she is corralled! Now I can enjoy catching up!

Ladies, you and your furry family stories are making me :lmao::lmao:

Dinner was nice. Marisa ad Kady stayed for roasted chicken roasted potatoes and carrots, asparagus and gravy. Salad but only Buddy ate that.

Quick question. I don;t have any more fresh lemons. Do you think that orange zest would work with the salmon? I have limes too, but the only lemon I have is a naked one...I zested it already, poor little loney lemon;)

Hi all, quick check in. I went to my friends house today to hang out by her pool. Thomas finally went in today! He was so cute.

I hope everyone is doing well.

Maria, Wishing you and Greg all the best for a wonderful class tomorrow. I had a tear in my eye as I read your story as well. The time is getting close when Jack will be home...I am so excited!

Thank you for keeping in touch with Gretchen and updating us...continued prayers for her Dad and the family. Prayers for your friend's Dad also.

Sheryl, glad you are feeling better.

Ellen, I have not read your TR yet but will do so soon. Thank you.

Let's see...dinner last night was steak for Tom, fish for me (grilled with butter, lemon, s&p and Sheryl's cajun dust), baked potatoes and corn on the cob. Tonight was pasta with meat sauce and salad.

Hugs to everyone!

Nancy Personally I would use the orange over the lime for the salmon. I like limes but I don't like the combo for the salmon.

MariaMy thoughts and prayers are with you tommorow. I too have never thought about baby trauma. My 2 cousins were around a year when they came to us. They seemed to fit so well. Of course they weren't from a different culture and time zone.

Aimee I am glad the Dad calmed down. It is difficult when it is your child. It is important to remember every child goes throught this and lives ;)

Vickie I am glad you are feeling so well. Bike around for me will you :rolleyes1

Gretchen Many hugs:hug: You are in my thoughts are prayers.

Actually you can use both.

Ann- my sister lost the hair pretty quickly, although she has very kinky, curly hair now. Because of it she wears her hair in a braid most of the time, when it is down she sometimes has Shirley Temple ringlets.

Lauren, I just noticed your weight loss journal link in your sig and posted there! You go girl, you can do this!:thumbsup2

I don't know why but I had planted a habanero pepper plant.

I don't think you'll need the gloves for picking them, but definitely use them when you cut them up. You can use them like jalapenos, just in lesser quantity since habanero is hotter. I am glad you are feeling well and your aide situation is working out.

I don't know if they will take either option but at least they'll know I've considered the options and am open to making a chance so they will feel more comfortable.

You are doing a great job! :thumbsup2

I am sure he was adorable. Good for him!

Bike around for me will you :rolleyes1

Now that is a good idea. We all share recipes...if those of you who are going to the gym and doing vigorous exercise wouldn't mind sharing the benefits with the rest of us, that would be great. ;)

Maria -- Good luck tomorrow. I thought your page was very touching.

Liam's team is on a winning streak. They won again tonight. That is four games in a row. Shocking! Liam even had a good night at the plate. He had an RBI, a walk and a really good hit to right field. He did not pitch. Since the score was so lopsided (12-2), the coach let a couple kids pitch who had not had before, and they did well, so that was good. Playoffs start next week.

I'm going to be extra careful using them. I had lots of troubble with just jalapenos,so I'm will be extras carelful with thosse.glad that the team is on a streak!:cheer2: Hopefully he will get more play!

Lauren- I have to admit I am :cloud9: whenever I hear the baby stories. Between little nose kisses, fuzzy heads and baby teeth peeking through I am in :lovestruc Right now I am listening to a very noisy Nola :goodvibes I am afraid to just let her go unless I am right there, my home is wide open. Since her Houdini escape from her exersaucer I am paranoid so Welby got another pac-n-play for her to play in. She knows the difference already because I don't have a sheet or her pad in there and she has her little pail of toys. I think she is ready to think about walking. She is feeling better but that cold thing is still there, poor baby.

Sheryl- Hot peppers! My Mom used to cook once in a while and she found some peppers that Donny had bought in the veg keeper. Donny tried the stew she made and nearly died! She did not know that those tiny peppers were hot and tossed all six in the soup!

Aimee- I am so glad the Dad calmed down. I have to admit that Buddy would probably have lost it too. He would never have been able to think past the fact that his little angel got a ding,. Marisa still edits what she tells him becasue he wants a discussion with every school official over every issue that he thinks is a slight, mistake, boo boo, or anything else he wants to address. Yup.....he has found his inner Helicopter! Thank goodness it was buried really deep when my kids were little. (I'll share how he treated Donny's principal some day :scared:)

Dinner is going to be my salmon with the orange citrus glaze. I think I want curried sweets but may end up with baked and green beans. I have a lot of salad left so unless I eat it for lunch we'll have that too.

Congrats to Liam and his team!!!!:cheer2:

WFD - Becky's lemony balsamic mustard marinated roast chicken with garlic & rosemary, rice pilaf and green beans.:woohoo:

Quick pop in to post last night's photo, greek salad with grilled chicken and pita. BBL to read up.

Thanks! I am having a rough time since the last time I posted over there. The summer is difficult. I have been kinda watching and exercising when I can. I need to get posting again.

Nancy, Nola sounds like she keeps you very busy. She is having a blast at your house. What a little darling!

Dinner tonight is pork tenderloin, roasted potatoes and a veggie. I will do it in the oven...I know its hot to put the oven on but I have been doing it like this and it comes out so good!

How I do the pork:

Heat the oven to 500 - 550.

Coat the tenderloin with a rub. Place in a baking dish over a bed of onions and apples. Add some butter and wine (or broth).

Now, make sure you know the :surfweb: weight of the meat. Cook for 5 1/2 minutes per pound. (I cook a bit longer since Tom gets icked out with undercooked meat...maybe 6 1/2 min).

Then, turn oven off and leave meat in there for an hour. DO NOT OPEN OVEN.

Take out of oven, let rest for 5 minutes and then carve. I like to serve this with the cooking juices...it comes out so good!

Have a great day all! Going to jump on the treadmill and then clean a bit before I need to pick A up from rec.

Morning Y'all,

It was a rough one here. The aide (Miranda the one we've trusted) was a no show this morning. No phone call & didn't answer her phones. Maybe she's gone into labor early but we think not. The other aide was here last night, she told us that the agency, cut thier pay for the morning shift. She also told us that Miranda called her yesterday very upset about the pay cut.

Way back when Bob had an agreement with the agency, that when we were using them for the mornings & evenings, they wouldn't charge us the full fee for the morning since it would only take a 1/2 hour. He called to remind them of the agreement when I had the surgery. So what do they do, instead of cutting thier profit, they cut the rates they were paying the aide! We are both very disturbed that Miranda didn't call us. After waiting about 20 minutes this morning, I didn't want to wait to get someone out here, so I got him ready & out of bed myself. Bob didn't want me to & I probably shouldn't have, because I did have a bit of pain while sitting him up.

To top that off, Bob had a minor car accident yesterday during lunch. He said it was his fault too.

I fixed a big salad for dinner last night. It was yummy, I had leftover french bread that was stale & made croutons with it. I haven't done anything with the habaneros yet. DD called last night & said she is going to bring us dinner today. Baked chicken & a sundried tomato spinach macaroni! She said it's a Big Daddy recipe. I can't wait to try it.

Nan, Nola sounds like she is getting to that really fun stage. Watching them learn & do something new practically everyday is just a blessing!

That soup must have been really hot! I hate to laugh at Donny's expense but that is a funny story!

Lauren, Did anyone take pictures of T in the water? I'd love to see that!
You are going to have a really good dinner tonight, the pork sounds delicous.

Becky, I think your photography skills have gotten even better! That is so pretty. You can see every little detail, the leaves of arugula, the mint, the moist chicken! It is beautiful & makes me hungry.

Do you drive one of those BIG trucks? Would I need a ladder to get in it?

No I drive a Honda Pilot, but it is nice and wide and I love it:lovestruc Nan says its too big for her, but I like nice and roomy

------ Emma is loosing her hair.

------- I have to go to the OB tomorrow to have a stitch removed from my tubal incision that just won't fall out and has become infected.

Good Luck:hug:

Oh no, do you feel ok? Do you have any pain?

Thanks for all the feedback on the blog, it was hard to be factual & not overly emotional.
Tomorrow is our big day at the agency!!! We will leave here at 7am because we have to travel to Trenton & the traffic very heavy.
If we aren't emotionally exhausted we will go for seafood by the beach on the way home.

Off to make a salad...bbl

I will be thinking about you today. I know this is just moving you further along in the adoption process. I cant wait until your baby comes home.

I hope Bob is OK after his accident. I know the next day you can feel it. You need to be careful. Did you call the agency to find out where she was?

I need your help today everyone!

I have my MIL coming over today and I am making dinner. She is not my favorite person in the world, so instead of poisoning her I think I will kill her with kindness:rolleyes:

The only part of the dinner I have for definite is grilled filet wrapped in bacon. What else could I make? I need some sides and a dessert... HELP!!!

:scared: Sounds like a winter meal to me! OMG that is warm!

I am looking forward to hearing about your baby too, Maria! :goodvibes

Marisa - what about cornbread? I want cornbread so maybe you do too. :lmao:

Marisa, Bob is feeling fine. He said he barely felt any impact. It scares to me think about it, with him driving in the wheelchair.

For your MIL dinner, a big green salad always goes well with steak. Some kind of potatoes would be good too. It would be easiest to just to baked potato, but garlic mashed potatoes would be good too.

Tomorrow we spend the day with a few other couples so we can be a support system each other.
We will also get (hopefully) a much better time frame but the bulk of the day is about bonding with the babies after so much trauma has happened in their short life. By the time we get Jack he would have lost his birth mother & foster mother so depending on the baby we could all have some hard times ahead. They also address how to help the baby adjust with the time difference, jet lag & food changes.
I know I'm missing more topics...just can't think of them:confused3

That sounds like a great way to spend a day - I think being with other couples on the same journey would really help.

I'd do a potato (baked, mashed, or twice baked) with asparagus on the side. And maybe salad, too. I am not good at desserts - I go with storebought and stick it on my own platters
