When do school supplies go on sale?

Are the Walmart prices only this week or will the sale continue? Our sales circular states until 7/11, but these seem like the usual Walmart sales prices.

the wal-mart ad i saw said prices good 7/5-7/11...not sure if prices will go up or down after that. you never can tell these days.

Have you checked your school system's website?

We don't even have a school website. We have a laptop program where kids bring and use laptops at school but no school website. I don't even know what day registration is for Jr high. How do they not let you know these dates in advance, what if I had vacation???

Can anyone give me an idea on what is expected for 3rd graders? My school doesnt have it listed on their website and we do not get the list until the week before school starts.

I woudn't buy anything until you hear from your actual school. It will save you money in the long run to wait. Teachers are getting so particular about the color/brand of things that it's not worth it to buy ahead and maybe get the wrong thing. My DD's school list was even broken down by gender. Boys had certain things to get/girls had others! :rotfl:

Our Third Grade list is:

1 Box Crayola standard crayons (24 count)
1 Pack Crayola Colored pencils (12 count)
3 Large Glue sticks
Pink Erasers
1 dozen #2 pencils
1 pair fiskars for kids scissors-5" pointed
12" ruler with metric measures, plastic
1 yellow and 1 pink highlighter
1 4-pack assorted dry erase whiteboard markers
post-it notes, 3X3, multicolored
composition notebook

Hope this helps! :thumbsup2

Does anybody have their first and second grader's lists. I need to buy for two kids, not my own, and I do not have a list and cannot get one. The school does not have a list. This is a very poor school district, so that maybe why the school does not have or do a list. This is a surprise, so I cannot ask for a list from the guardian. TIA

These lists seem to get more and more out of control every year, does anyone ever buck the trend and just buy what they want with the exception of obviously needed items like calculators? I wasted a ton of money on multiple 1 in binders last year for my son for high school. He NEVER used them, he used his 2 in with the dividers. I get tired of being told to buy really off the wall stuff like a green bic pen when they are all lost halfway through the year and my kids seem to function just fine.

Thanks for the info for 3rd graders. I realize our teacher may have some other specific requests but at least I can get the stuff that is so cheap and then if we do not end up needing it with our list I am not out much. One year we needed the pink erasers and I missed the special and had to pay a fortune for them. Does anyone know if Staples is doing their penny sales this year? Also, regarding the 2nd grade list - I will look tonight to see if I still have mine from last year and will post it for you if I do.

This is our schools 3rd grade class school supply list.

We buy my step daughter's supplies every year but their school hasn't posted a list yet. They will be in 7th grade, does anyone have a 7th grade list yet?

I don't have kids in those grades this year, but I think you would be safe with buying at least:

Crayola crayons (Rose Art are junk)
blunt tip scissors
pencils and erasers
broad Crayola washable markers
composition notebook
two pocket folders (this one's kind of iffy, some teachers want prongs, some want certain colors)
backpack and lunchbox
box of tissues
Elmer's washable glue
Possibly glue sticks

These are the basics and if the kids don't end up needing them for school they will probably need them at home for projects.
