The *ALL NEW* Polynesian Resort FAQ thread - *APRIL 2009*

I had the sushi combo plate one night. I agree with a pp that it was quite pricey. Not sure it was worth the price.

It was pretty good. I don't remember what the 3 parts of the combo were called but the plain sliced salmon(I think?) was kinda "eh", the rolls were good and the sushi with the special sauce on the round crispy thing was awesome. Next time, I would NOT get the combo plate but would definitely order the sushi on that round crispy thing. Sorry I don't know the real names.

Just curious, what is Pixie Hollow? (Wow, I feel very uninformed.)

Pixie Hollow is the character 'meet and greet' for Tinker Bell and her friends (usually Iridessa and Rosetta). The wait time gets crazier as the day goes on so if you want to meet the fairies, get to Toontown as *soon* as the park opens. Pack your patience. :thumbsup2

DD and I *loved* this meet and greet--especially seeing Tinker Bell and Iridessa. They were awesome! DD has her pictures with them up in her room.

We're going to be traveling with my daughter who will be 1 so I have requested a 1st floor room. We would like to be centralized to everything but still be able to have a nice view from our patio (either part of the beach, pools, marina, etc.) and not a major walkway if we had a choice. Which building would you recommend?

Thank you!

Hello fellow Poly guests! It's been a while since i've posted here b/c we booked our trip about 18mos in advance! Now we're down to JUST 6 mos. :rotfl2: So now I'm thinking DISNEY again and came on to check out this fantastic thread all about Poly!!!

When I checked about a year ago, I recall that Apple Juice was actually an option for the refillable mugs. Can anyone confirm if this is still true or not?

Also, my family is bigtime fruit lovers. Does CC sell single pcs of fruit or a fruit dish of any kind or are we better off just ordering some fruit for the week from We Go Shop or Garden Grocer? (We'll also probably get bottled water and some snacks from them)

Can anyone tell me how easy (or difficult) it is to get to Beach Club (Cape May) from Poly if using Disney transportation??

And, onto OHANAS! I've read very mixed reviews on it. Anyone been fairly recently? Is it worth going to or not? I've read that the meats are all overcooked and dry....so I'm PRAYING that's not the case b/c the menu sounds SOOOOO amazing!

Thanks!!

Picabo, CC does have whole fruit. I'm pretty sure a fruit cup is offered too.

If you will have a car, I would drive to BC. Otherwise, make your way to the MK and hop a Y&BC bus.

Finally have our next Polynesian stay booked! Short as always these days since we joined DVC but still excited. :dance3:

Hi! I'll try to answer your questions:

apple juice -- I don't know, we didn't use the mugs

fruit -- there was a cut-up fruit salad and whole pieces of fruit at Capt. Cooks (I think apples, oranges, and bananas). If you want a better selection, I would recommend ordering fruit. There are also fruit stands in the parks (we're big fruit eaters as well).

BC -- there is no direct resort to resort transportation. You could take a taxi, you could go to the MK and get on the BC bus, or you could spend the day at Epcot and then walk to the BC. It it's for an early breakfast, though, you may have to take a taxi since the Disney transportation may not be up and running yet (depending on the day). Sorry I can't be more help in this area.

'Ohana -- we had dinner there in April and it was really, really good. The only thing that way dry was the potstickers, and we didn't eat them (could have asked for more if we had wanted to). The salad, veggies, chicken wings, and noodle were all great! And the steak and turkey were also really good. If you get an overcooked piece, just ask for another one. And the dessert is our favorite dessert in all of WDW!:)

Hope this helps!

I'd suggest the Tokelau longhouse. It's pretty central to access the GCH, the TTC and you have the quiet pool on one side and a lovely garden view on the other. Samoa and Fiji are closer to the GCH and the main pool and children's water play area but are on the 'main drag' for walking to/from the GCH and the boat launch to the MK.

The Poly is *wonderful* for kids! :thumbsup2

As of this past December, Apple Juice was still an option for the refillable mugs. I don't see this going away soon as it is a Minute Maid/Coca-Cola product and they have sponsorship at Disney. :goodvibes

Also, my family is bigtime fruit lovers. Does CC sell single pcs of fruit or a fruit dish of any kind or are we better off just ordering some fruit for the week from We Go Shop or Garden Grocer? (We'll also probably get bottled water and some snacks from them)

CC does sell single pieces of fruit (oranges, banannas) and also fresh cut up fruit in the refrigerator case. I think the fresh cut fruit was honeydew melon, cantaloupe, pineapple and strawberries. If there is a type of fruit you really like and dont' want to depend on CC, I suggest ordering from the places you mentioned. And definitely get the bottled water. If you're not on the dining plan, that bottled water adds up!

Can anyone tell me how easy (or difficult) it is to get to Beach Club (Cape May) from Poly if using Disney transportation??

Not hard when you know how to get there. :goodvibes You can take the monorail or the boat launch to the MK, then take a bus to the Beach Club.

I haven't been in about a year (have eaten at 'Ohana about 3 times) but we're going again next month. Every time we've gone the food has been amazing! The meats were cooked perfectly and I've never had dry/overcooked meat. Last time, our waiter even got tomatoes for the salad from Kona when my uncle requested some. Definitely give it a try because if you time it right, you can see the fireworks from 'Ohana. :thumbsup2

Hi Picabo! I just got back from the Poly a few weeks ago and was told before I left that there was apple juice at the refill station...but there wasn't any when we were there :( The folks at CC said they switched to juice boxes fairly recently so you have to buy them from the cooler now :(

I went to 'Ohana for both breakfast and dinner. Loved all of the breakfast foods. Dinner was hit or miss. I thought the steak was delicious and not dry at all and the pork was pretty good. The chicken wings were good and the salad was good. The noodles and dumplings very dry, and dessert was fantastic. I really think it depends on the night you go because usually I read the meats were terrible but the appetizers are very good, and I found it the opposite on our night! I'm glad I went once, but I wouldn't go again on our next trip.

Enjoy your trip, I can't wait to go back!

That's great news! :yay:

Okay, now I know it's been awhile since I dined at 'Ohana because we didn't have the potstickers/dumplings. Hopefully they still have these next month.

Oh, now that *stinks* because the juice boxes usually run around $1.69 a pop. It was really economical to get this in the refill mug. Looks like for our next trip I'll be packing juice boxes again...

:rotfl:Yeah -- other people said they were really, really good -- I think we just got a dry batch. But there were so many other dishes on the table, and they were all so good, that I didn't ask for another batch since there was no way we could finish our food anyway. And I had to leave some room for that dessert!;)

Best sushi I've ever had! Fresh and delicious!

We have got to try it! :woohoo:

Thanks, MsStinkerBelle. We need a Polynesian fix...haven't stayed since the beginning of January when all those cool gingerbread houses were up. I remember your excellent pictures.

I bet Tess and her family are having a blast. Some others are there right now, too, I think?

Hey everyone - just got caught up on all the posts! We have just under 3 months to go before we leave, but reading all these posts is tiding me over :goodvibes As much as I read, I'm still learning about new things to see and do - I'm really looking forward to trying the movie / smores at the GF one night as we didn't do that last time.
Congratulations to everyone that is leaving shortly. I can't wait to post my "leaving tomorrow" message!

Thanks to everyone for your imput on my MANY questions! In regards to Ohana's - we willd efinately give it a try as the menu sounds so amazing! And as someone suggested, if we get any overcooked or dry pcs, I'll just ask for me. Personally, I had gastric bypass surgery 10 yrs ago and I have a very difficult time getting down dry meat!

Now THIS is sad, sad news! But not surprising as I don't think that any of the other resorts have unlimited AJ. SOOO, I'll plan to order juices boxes as well since I refuse to spend $1.50/box.

Exactly one week from today, I'll be arriving at the Poly.

I'm so glad to have found this thread. It is FULL of helpful information. Thanks everyone!

Happy weekend, Poly friends!

It's been two weeks since I've been back and the Poly is still all we can think about! I have finally uploaded a few photos and I'm going to attempt to post them. First one I have to show you is our room view! Those of you booking GV concierge, if you want a good view, do not book #3521 (that was ours), and the other two rooms on either side. They were all blocked by the giant tree! Let's see if this works:
