Soak up the sun at Walt Disney World's Polynesian Resort! The Polynesian celebrates the tranquil spirit and picturesque splendor of the South Seas islands, and is conveniently located in the Magic Kingdom area. The Magic Kingdom park is just a short, pleasant boat ride away...

The main building of the Polynesian Resort is the Great Ceremonial House. It's a 2-story building which contains check-in; lobby concierge (available to all guests of the resort); Trader Jack's merchandise shop containing gifts, toys, and a pin-trading cart; Bou-Tiki which offers resort logo merchandise, gifts, tropical clothing, swimwear, jewelry, and accessories; Samoa Snacks which offers sundries, film, newspapers, magazines, stamps, liquors, wine, beer, and snacks; The Kona Cafe restaurant, 'Ohana restaurant, the Tambu Lounge, the Kona Coffee bar, and Captain Cook's quick-service counter cafe'. Children's activities are frequently held inside the GCH as well.

Scroll down for DIS-reader reviews of each longhouse.

The feature pool is called the Nanea Volcano pool and was completed in 2001. It's a "zero-depth entry" pool which means that you can walk right in without any steps or ladder. It features a grotto slide and a children's water play area. Life jackets are provided to resort guests for no charge.

The Nanea Volcano Pool offers one of the best experiences on all Disney property; the ability to swim while watching the fireworks over the castle, every night....

The Polynesian Resort is one of only 3 resorts that is on the monorail. The one thing that makes the Polynesian "better" than the other 2 in regards to transportation is the fact that it's right next to the TTC (Ticket & Transportation Center), via a short walkway, which offers the monorail to Epcot, in addition of course to the monorail to the Magic Kingdom!

P1010112.JPG

DSC01815.jpg

The Polynesian also offers a boat launch to the Magic Kingdom, which it shares with the Grand Floridian Resort:

Coming soon to a post near you: Polynesian Resort pics and info :)

This might be Disney heresy but if I didn't have a car, I'd bypass DTD. Most of the merchandise can be found in the parks or resorts. There are plenty of restaurants to patronize without venturing over there. The stoplights alone in the area guarantee a long ride unless the buses only go the back route (and it doesn't sound like they do...perhaps they can't). My time in WDW is too short to wait for infrequent buses with multiple resort stops as well as multiple stops in DTD itself.

A trip to DTD (now that there is no longer a PI) is a complete waste of valuable time. The bus ride is far too long and the wait for a bus even longer.

When PI was alive and kicking, we enjoyed our trips to DTD and spent a good deal of money too. For the most part, however, we utilized taxis because it was so much faster and convenient. Now that PI has fallen by the wayside, there is simply not enough there to attract or that I can't do elsewhere.

The bus to DTD has been a constant complaint of mine for years! :headache:

Thanks for the new thread, CanadianGuy.:surfweb:

Good morning, Tess.:wave2:

Thank you SeaSpray!

I love how you have always included the links to relevant posts re. the Polynesian. GREAT thread :flower3:

I've been away for a couple of days... nice to see the seamless transition to the new Poly FAQ :cloud9:

mmmears, kaffinito and others leaving soon ~ you must be busy!! :laundy::dance3::cutie:

Hope everyone is having a great weekend.

DSC00921.jpg

Yeah - we're back! :dance3:

No, not busy yet johnsonet, just waiting for the days to finally tick down so I can surprise my boys and stay at the beautiful Poly! :cloud9:

Johnsonet~ Thanks for posting that picture. What a wonderful thing to look at fist thing in the morning. (Yes, I check the DIS every morning when I wake up. I need help.)

For those of you leaving soon (mmmears, kaffinato, kandcmch-am I forgetting anyone? Hope not!) I am so jealous. I am ready to go now. I've been in such a Disney fog that I almost forget that I still have to get ready for our trip my IL's for easter.)

We'll be heading to DTD on our first day and we don't have a car so we'll have to brave the buses. Hopefully it won't be too bad. We never made it to DTD on our last trip. I've never been shopping at DTD before. I did go to PI once way back when I was in college and I don't remember much, except learning to do the macarena there.

Yeah! What a beautiful thread to "wake up to"! Next Sunday we really will be waking up to the Poly! Canadianguy, thanks for getting us started...again!

Hang in there trip buddies-- it's almost time to go! Time to recheck all the details on the first page and...Tikiman's new and improved Site!
