The What's For Dinner Thread - May '09(recipe index in OP)

Good Morning Everyone!

CONGRATULATIONS! to Liam! That is so great! I used to love to go to my cousin's softball games. Kady doesnt do sports, because she doesnt like to be aggressive or anything. She played soccer, but couldn't understand why during a game you couldn't hug the other team's players:confused3.

Last night I made chili with cornbread muffins and brownies. Jeff works nights so I left out the muffins and a big bowl of chili for him. I expected him to eat a muffin or two, but he ate ALL OF THEM!! I guess I didnt need that cornbread muffin with my lunch:rotfl2:

I am not sure what is for dinner tonight because Kady has dance class, so probably just leftover pizza.

Have a great day everyone!

I hope this is actually a food thread LOL. We are having homemade mexican food tomorrow in honor of Cinco De Mayo. No recipes other then my mom puts chili o in the hamburger meat along with the taco seasoning. I can't wait til tomorrw. I may even break my diet rule and have a margaritta at home. I stopped drinking at home unless I have company to help lose weight. iI only get drinks when I go out to eat and more then made up for it yesterday with 3 peach martinis. I can't drink like I used to which is a fine thing. I came home and passed out on the couch for a couple of hours and woke up with a mild hangover. Oh well that is the price you pay to have some fun.

How rude of me! I forgot to say welcome!!! :welcome:party:

I would love to see Mamma Mia, heck I'd go see anything, I've never been to NYC.:rotfl:

quote]

I used to take a bus trip with my Sis IL twice a year and we would usually hang in the 1/2 price ticket line to see whatever had the best seats available. We did not care what we saw, we just enjoyed the shows. I never explored anywhere but the theater district because I get lost too easily. Our furthest trek away was to the Met. Picture two chubby women walking miles and miles through artwork...one starving and the other trying to find seats :lmao:

I never go to stay over until Buddy came. He refuses to do this in one day YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

MoniqueU--Welcome!

Nan--we saw Mama Mia in Vegas and it was a lot of fun. :thumbsup2

Well, I wish I could say we are having a great Cinco de Mayo menu tonight. But nope. I have to work and the kids are going to a birthday party at dinner time. Pizza for them and whatever I can find for me. Someone have a margarita for me!

Wow, at this rate we'll need a new thread by the end of the week.
I'll be back, I mean bbl, now that I know what it means.
Sheryl- I thought Lauren was talking to you too, not telling you what it meant. I just figured after her raving of mary kay she needed to put in another order.

Thanks for all the good wishs for the dentist, I'm heading out in a few minutes. It's only a 1/2 hour appointment so I don't think they can cause to much pain. I think they are "just" ruffing up the tooth surface and building it up like a giant filling so my teeth actually make contact with each other.

If it works, I'm having rice with gravy. I have a heard time eating rice because my top teeth only touch my bottom teeth in two spots.

Just so you aren't getting awful mental images, my teeth are perfectly straight, they don't look creepy or anything. (Yes, I'm a little vain when it comes to my teeth.)
Gotta go get it over with.

 Hi there & welcome...so glad to have you along!!!!

Ladies,
I am going to try to keep up today but we had a real bad night last evening.
DS is feeling better but had a night terror and had me up for 3 hours. I think I was only able to get about 3 hours of sleep in. I am not functioning well.

WFD- baked chicken, zuchini & summer squash, and corn.

Yup, we talk about food! I am having Mexican food tonight also. I am making guacamole, empanadas, and something with black beans. Either black beans and rice, or black bean soup. Oh, and I am making sangria also. I had suggested margaritas, but DH said probably not a good idea on a Tuesday night. Party pooper.

Last night I just ended up making a big salad with all the leftover vegetable bits I found in the fridge, and served it with a baguette spread with an obscene amount of brie. I did take pictures, but didn't have time to upload them yet.

However, I found this picture I forgot to post the other day. This was our appetizer on Saturday night. It's tuna wrapped in nori and dipped in tempura batter, served with wasabi, seaweed salad, and soy dipping sauce. I cooked it a little too long, but it still tasted good.

Good morning ladies. I'll try to check back in after my medication kicks in. I'm having a wonderful time with vertigo this morning. On the up side, it kind of feels like having a serious buzz. On the down side, it makes me nauseous to turn my head or look down unless I do it really slowly. Scrolling through the posts kind of made me queasy too. After my antivert kicks in (and a nap maybe) I'll be back.

I did see Liam's good news so I did want to congratulate him. And I saw that Kady may not be a great soccer player but what a social butterfly! I think that is just precious.

BBL ;)

Thanks everyone for the congratulations for Liam! When we arrived at the bus stop this morning, one of my neighbors looked at all of us and asked, "Sleepy??" Good thing this isn't a testing week.

Aimee -- I hope you are feeling better and got some rest.

I hope this is actually a food thread

Welcome! And yes, we do talk about food...and just about everything else.

Nancy and Marilyn -- My two are funny about cleaning as well. They both love to sweep and Swiffer the floors, but ask them to pick up their rooms and suddenly I am Miss Hannigan from Annie.

I would love to see Mamma Mia, heck I'd go see anything

I love going to musicals as well. I haven't been to NYC for a long time, but one of my fondest memories of the place was when my mom took me for a weekend and all we did was see shows and eat.

Kady doesnt do sports, because she doesnt like to be aggressive or anything. She played soccer, but couldn't understand why during a game you couldn't hug the other team's players
 That is so cute. Liam did not do well in soccer or basketball. He went through the whole game actively trying to avoid the ball.

Robin -- Good luck at the dentist today.

Ann -- And I thought I was sleepy! I hope you get some rest today. It's a good day for rest...cold, rainy, miserable.

Gretchen -- I hope the medicine has kicked in. Vertigo is awful.

We don't have baseball today (good thing, since it is pouring) but Caili does have a makeup gymnastics class and a skating practice this evening. I am kind of mad because I am going to miss the beginning of Idol. I don't have a DVR. We are going to eat out someplace tonight since we don't have time between gymnastics and skating to come home, but I haven't figured out where yet.

I'm glad you had a fun weekend, even though you were cleaning! Your niece's sound a lot like Alexis. I tell her to pick up & she whines about it. But then she'll offer to dust or mop :sad2: and ask how much am I going to pay her for it! She wanted $10 just for dusting one day! She also still mispronouces just a few words like " Nana bemember yesterday when..." I know I should be correcting her but it's too cute.

My 5yo DN says "No I ament" instead of I'm not or I didn't.

Nancy and Marilyn -- My two are funny about cleaning as well. They both love to sweep and Swiffer the floors, but ask them to pick up their rooms and suddenly I am Miss Hannigan from Annie.

I hear you. The 8yo came up from the playroom and when I asked if she was done she said she was and that she even scrubbed the toilet. She won't pick up a cheese string wrapper but she wiped down the toilet with a Clorox wipe!?!

I gave her a scrubber thing to scrub it out and of course the 5yo had to do it too. She went running upstairs all excited to tell her mother that she got to scrub the toilet. :rotfl:

Congrats to Liam!

Welcome!

I don't know what is for dinner tonight, I have another awards ceremony thing to go to. At least this one they serve dinner at.

Last night I made Lemon Chicken, orzo and roasted butternut squash. Tomorrow night I think I will have Cinco De Mayo food, tacos or fajitas.

Hi...lunch check in between eating and paperwork...

I don't know wfd yet. I have been queasy all day, so Gretchen I can relate. We will probably have french dips again because the bread came in a package of 6 rolls.

Wow, at this rate we'll need a new thread by the end of the week.

I think out of all the porn you've posted, this has to be my favorite. That looks so right up my alley!:worship:

Sorry I missed this, feel better soon!

Gretchen & Bethany please feel better.

Nancy, I have tons of places for you & Buddy to have dinner/lunch & go beyond the theater district, I'll give you a ring.

I had bad news from Greg last night....Yesterday his Mom was called in for an additional test before her knee replacement this Thursday, after the additional testing they have found a "mass" in her lung. She is back in the hospital today for some invasive testing and we are all praying & hoping for the best.
I had actually called Greg to him about my "incident" that happened in my surgeon's office yesterday morning & tell him that I wouldn't be going to Boston & he just blurted out "my Mom has a mass in her lung". Hopefully we will know something by the end of the day:sad2:

Maria- thinking of you and Greg

Ann- If you are having a rainy day like us, I think today would be a perfect day for a nap.

Bigmerle- How do you make your lemon chicken? I have an okay recipe but it needs some help.

Laura- I'm glad Liam had such a good time and did so well. It must be hard for them to have to be as brave as their day, I'm glad he got to be so happy.

Welcome Monique!

The dentist wasn't awful, but unfortunatly she has done all she can do. She barely did anything, once she got a closer look there really was no point. It's most likely arthritus in my jaw, so I'm going to be vigelant about trying glucosomene. I'm certainly not rushing into having the joint replaced, I'm not even brave enough to ask how it's done. But at the end of the day, it's just discomfort and I'm very healthy, as is my daughter, and my husband is still here with us- I really can't complain.

I hope everyone who is not feeling well is better soon.

Oh, dinner is a chicken from BJ's, (that I had to smell for the 1/2 hour ride home, I'm suprised there's any left) a starch, and a veggie.

I hate the dentist also. I feel your pain. I will literaly make my self sick before I go for a simple cleaning. I hope you got along okay with no pain.

Wow, what a nasty feeling. I sure hope you are feeling better real quick.

Bethany & Gretchen ~ you 2 need to feel better also. Jeepers don't be a sneezing or breathing on me today as I feel pretty good. :yay:

:cool1:  :woohoo: :cheer2: Yea Liam - WAY to go!!!!

Nancy ~ I have a wish to go to NYC. Someday I will go!! I have been all over the world - litteraly, but my wish is to see NYC. You lucky ducky!

Ann & Aimee ~ I hope you both get some much need sleep. Nothing is worse than being tired and not be able to rest.

Merle ~ I have to share a cute story. Last year we were at the Flame Tree BBQ in AK having lunch, when Ethan (my GS) then 3, asked me if we could please go to "Apricot" (Epcot) now. Everyone around us burst out chuckling and ahhhhing. It was so cute.

Maria ~ I'm so sorry about Greg's Mom. I will add her to my prayer list.

Monique ~ Welcome. Happy Cinco De Mayo Day.

Marisa ~ I see nothing wrong in giving hugs to the other team. :rotfl:  I'm a real hugger also.

Kat ~ Thanks for all you do.

Laura ~ thanks for the good wishes for Jay. I am sure the further we get into this deployment the more I will ask a few questions. The first time Jay was in Iraq Ethan was just a twinkle. It is so different this time for all of them.

Well I should really get back to work. Ya THINK!!! :rotfl2:

WFDT ~ French Dips (thanks to Bethany), sweet potato fries and peach cobbler.

I'll try to BBL ;)

Hey Y'all,

I had to go through 2 pages! We will need a new thread in a week. lol
We had grilled burgers, chips & wine on the patio for dinner. I love evenings that are nice enough to have a leisurly dinner outside. But it's a good thing we came in before dusk. The termites were swarming & we had a bunch that got into the house. Ugh, nothing like having a termite crawling on you, while you are sitting in the dark watching tv.

Alexis got into the pool for the 1st time yesterday. Her lips were turning blue, when I made her get out! She picked up right where she left off on swimming last year, she's really doing well.

Okay I multi quoted so this is going to be long.

Okay girls, we are heading over to my parents for dinner. They miss their little guy and actually he has been good all day. We are just about to leave, update you all later on what DM prepared.

Last week, I never posted one night she made me roast leg of lamb, carrots, broccoli, cresent rolls and red bliss mashed with homemade gravy....It was heavenly!!!

Sherly, sorry to hear Angelina did not get the offer she was hoping for. Continued prayers on her job search.

Oh that dinner sounds so good! I'm glad you're Mom has been feeding you so well! :goodvibes

Hi all! The date didn't go yet. He had some unexpected things come up plus he had to work. Anyway thanks all for your concern it was just that oh so special time.It seems to be getting worse as I get younger ;) I refuse to get older
Not sure yet WFD I'll be back when I figure that out.

So you are going to reschedule the date, right?;) Hope you feel better soon!

Sheryl - I'm so sorry to hear about the job not panning out for A.

Sheryl I saw that the job didn't work out for Angelina. I have confidence that if it is the right job for her they will sweeten the pot. pixiedust:

Tonight is grilled chicken breasts, rice and a salad.

Kat, That's what I'm hoping for! They knew she would be on vacation this week, so hopefully when she returns she'll get good news on it. She did apply again to that 1st company she was talking to, but really doesn't want that job, just because the back stabbing ex-friend is working there.

Sheryl ~ A is in my prayers, so sorry about the job.

Dinner was a cheese omelette & wheat toast.

Thanks for the prayers! How are you two feeling? Is your sinus pain improving? How has Greg been feeling? Prayers are ongoing for both of you.

We decided to go with the other idea my DH had for moving; where the company drives the truck down so we are FLYING down on June 30! :woohoo: It is actually cheaper that way, and DH feels better that I won't be driving all 1400 miles (he's not licensed...that's his July project.)

We didn't do the French Fries for dinner; they take a long time and we were lazy. Here's a picture of the sandwiches:
IMG_9895.jpg

Woohoo, Food Porn from Bethany!!! :cool1: :thumbsup2 Way to go girl! Now please tell me what's a french dip? I'm guessing roast beef sammie with au jus dipping sauce?

I'm glad to hear you won't have to drive all that way! Your DH made a wise decision, that's going to be so much easier.

Bethany- that sandwich looks so good to me! I love French Dips.

WFD- DM made meatloaf with gravy, baked potatoes, stewed tomatoes, french style green beans, and salad. I don't love meatloaf but it tasted great since I did not have to cook it.

I'm not a meatloaf fan either. DH asked me a couple of weeks ago if I'd make one. I told him yes but it has been weeks since I said okay. I don't think I've made one for him in years.

Hi everyone! I wanted to share my good mood. Liam got to pitch for the first time tonight, and wow, was he great! The coach called it a "phenomenal" performance and dads from the other team were coming up to me saying how good he was, and they sure were glad he reached his pitch count because now the team had a chance. Liam's team won for the first time this season, so Liam and the team were just completely joyful. Liam went to bed the happiest I have seen him in a LONG time. He even gave me a huge hug and didn't want to let go (at home, of course...not in front of his teammates ;)) I am so excited for him. Not only was he proud of his pitching, he was also proud that he hit the ball every time he was up tonight. I just love baseball season.

Sheryl -- I hope Angelina is having fun in NYC. The way I read your post, I thought the job was still a possibility if they came back with a better offer. Did they decide against that?

Ellen -- I'm sorry to hear Jay is leaving so soon. My thoughts are with you and your family. I know it is not an easy time.

Liam, Yeah!!! :cheer2::cool1: Congratulations on a great game!

That must have been some great pitching! Fathers from the other teams coming over to talk about it! Wow!

Laura, I'm glad y'all had such a fun evening! Hopes for many more this baseball season.

You are right, Angelina is waiting to hear back from them. They knew she'd be on vacation this week, she was just hoping they'd get back to her before she left.

Ellen, I'm sorry I totally missed something! I went back looking for your post and couldn't find it. I read in Laura's post that Jay is leaving, but I'm embarrassed to tell you I don't understand the details. But I can tell your family needs  & prayers:flower3:.

 Welcome to our occasional food thread! My drinks are my diet killer too! But if figure wine is better than mixed sweet drinks, right?! ;) I don't know what's for dinner tonight but we probably will have either sangria or margarita's. I mean I HAVE to something for Cinco de Mayo!

can't post it all in one post....

cont.

Tonight the staff went to PF Changs for dinner.
I have to leave for a conference at 7am tomorrow so I came home to sleep. I am still not feeling well and really need sleep - which I don't do well away from home.

Your dinner out sounds so good!

Hope you have a good conference!

Love that! Kady used to say "fridgerfer". I loved it. Sometimes she still slips and it makes me :goodvibes:goodvibes Don't grow upppppppppppp!

I wonder if the firm will come back with a counteroffer for Angelina. Fingers crossed for her!

My sister and her then husband fixed me up with Buddy. I had met him but had refused to go out with him for over 3 months. When he picked me up he sort of just froze in the doorway. It seems that my BIL had told him I had one child.....and when he arrived there were three running around along with my very unconventional set of teenage male babysitters glaring at him :rotfl:

Food? Us? :rotfl2:Yes there is food here, it is the common denominator we all have but meals are only the backdrop for some good chat.

Dinner will be pork chops of some kind. Once again it is rainy and raw so grilling is a maybe. Last night I was able to grill a sirloin and served it with baked sweets, Baby Bellas sauted in olive oil, butter and worchestershire and steamed green beans. Green salad for Buddy. Mine will be for lunch.

That must have been some 1st date! :goodvibes

Your dinner last night sounds so good! :thumbsup2

Oh! I wanted to thank Angelina for going to NYC! Buddy and I are going in June and I have been looking for shows that he might enjoy. Stomp is now on our list. We are also going to visit the Intrepid museum. I need one more show and am looking at Mamma Mia or Rock of Ages. Any other idea? He doesn't want to see Jersey Boys and I did not see that Smokey Joe's Cafe is still playing. He would not care for a show like Chicago or 42nd Street. he does not even remember seeing Jesus Chris Superstar and that was less than a year ago so you can see what I need to look for.

I have to find dinner ideas as well. We went to DelFrisco's the last time and it was so good. It was a little pricey though, but by then he was so shellshocked he did not even want to know the total. Ellen's Stardust Diner was fun too.

Nan, She was having a time, trying to figure out anything Josh would enjoy! Stomp was it, she couldn't think of anything else that she wanted to see that he could even stay awake through! I'll let you know what meals they enjoyed. She didn't do to many pricey ones, again... Josh ;) So maybe she'll have something in there for Buddy! My dear SIL likes things simple & cheap! Like most men I guess! It's taken 31 yrs for me to get Bob to actually enjoy it when he spends money.

Too cute! :lovestruc It's better to be a lover than a fighter!

Wow, at this rate we'll need a new thread by the end of the week.

Gotta go get it over with.

Well I'm glad I'm not alone with my not getting everything!

I hope the dentist's work goes well for you. No pain & that it works! I wish I had your dentist. I've grind my teeth really bad, and have done a lot of damage. My dentist has said the only solution is a whole mouthful of crowns! As long as I can still eat, I'm ignoring his suggestion.

:Ladies,
I am going to try to keep up today but we had a real bad night last evening.
DS is feeling better but had a night terror and had me up for 3 hours. I think I was only able to get about 3 hours of sleep in. I am not functioning well.

OH WOW! Freakin WOW!!! :worship::worship: Becky that is just amazing! How did you get the tempura cooked & keep the tuna so rare. Lady you are just too good! I've never had a seeweed salad. I'll have to try it next time we go out for sushi.

BBL ;)

Hope the meds work! When are you leaving?

Now I'm sure I've missed more while typing all of this! :confused3
