Disney with two broken arms - (Final Day 1/23)

Another great update! Last year I waited forever for the freee Visa picture also! The characters do spend a good amount of time with you and we had a great interaction but still it was FOREVER!!!! This pst Sept when I went the line was really long and I decided it wasn't worth it. I will see how it goes next week but if it is long I won't wait again. Anyways can't wait to see how dinner at Coral Reef went!

Wow, what a trip you are (were) having. I am finally caught up and can't wait for the next installment. Looks like you are healed up. I can't imagine trying to type with two broken arms. Your husband sounds like a great guy taking care of everything that you can't. Even brushing your hair and trying to put it up for you. You are a very lucky lady.

I will be waiting patiently for the next installment. :rolleyes1

Diane

Next we made our way to the Coral Reef. We ate there last year and it was DH favorite restaurant. This year we returned to celebrate Faith's 4th birthday.:cake: Earlier in the day Faith had gotten a birthday button and got to hear Goofy wish her a Happy Birthday.

When we arrived at Coral Reef it was already pretty busy (free dining). We ended up only waiting about 5 minutes before our pager went off to be seated. As we were following the hostess I was trying not to get my hopes up too high for a good table. Our hostess passed the 3rd level seating and I was already happy. (Last year we sat 3rd level). Then she passed the 2nd level.:yay: We followed her all the way to the front, middle, glass front table.:jumping1:

Wow, it is amazing and a whole different experience dining that close. When we were seated the girls each got a special menu made especially for them with their pictures. Hope especially was confused by this.;) DD7's menu said, "Surprise Hope, Love Mom and Dad". DD4's menu said, "Happy Birthday Faith, Love Mom and Dad". I can't say enough about how impressed I am with Coral Reef for putting that all together.:thumbsup2

DisneyWorld2008262.jpg

The girls each ordered the kids smoothie drink.

DisneyWorld2008265.jpg

DisneyWorld2008266.jpg

We had so much fun watching the acquarium up close. There was a sting ray that stopped next to our table and seemed to be observing us the whole time. We loved seeing the shark, the big tortouse, and all the amazing different kinds of fish up close.:fish:

DisneyWorld2008264.jpg

Faith informed me that she needed to use the restroom and I did not want to leave. I was so afraid we would miss a special surprise I had arranged for her. I reluctantly hurried her off the the restroom.

Not long after returning DH took the video camera out to record for a little bit. And it worked out great because as he was recording DD7 talking, DD4 and I happened to notice two divers getting in at the far end. I was hoping that this was the moment that all my obsessive planning pays off. DH has great video as they slowly swim toward us and of what happens next! The background noise sounds loud but honestly it is not a noisy restaurant at all.

Faith was a little intimidated so would not sit up on the ledge for a picture but I got this great picture of her with the divers. They even took their masks off for the pic.:)

DisneyWorld2008268.jpg

They were sooo great.
They waved at both girls. The male diver pretended a starfish was eating him. They held up the Happy Birthday sign for Faith and blew kisses. They then picked up the seashells and threw them like confetti. Everyone in the restaurant thought it was so sweet.:goodvibes

Faith seemed a bit confused by it at first but puffed up more and more as she took in what happened. Later as we left the restaurant she would tell me, "Mom, this was my best birthday ever."

Of course dinner arrived. DH loves their steak.

DisneyWorld2008270.jpg

It is very good. I had the grilled Mahi Mahi. Yum. Oh, we both had their key lime pie for dessert. Double yum. It truely is great food. The girls each had the make-your-own-sundaes.

DisneyWorld2008271.jpg

We took our time and were not hurried at all.

DisneyWorld2008269.jpg

In fact as we ate dinner they were doing some diver class so we got to see lots of divers go by for quite a while. That was very entertaining for the girls as well. We left a great tip but I really felt like it should go the the restaurant manager who helped put together our great evening. Two thumbs up.:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

WOW...looks great! I'm so happy Faith had a great 4th birthday!! :wizard: My best friend and I, with our families, are meeting in DW for the week when we go and we're celebrating both of our sons 4th birthdays there (we delivered our boys an hour 1/2 apart with the same OB years ago and we moved away so we havent' celebrated the kids birthdays together yet....so it will be very special and she doesn't know I've put it together!!). I've alrdeady had the divers set up, so now I just have to submit the pictures for the menues...they turned out great! :yay:

Oh no! TWO broken arms??!

My DH is a cyclist and in September 2007 he had a cycling accident - a guy on a bike in front of him decided to make a U-Turn without looking to see who was behind him. DH flipped over his handle bars and got really hurt - - he broke his left ring finger (and needed to get a new wedding ring since his old one won't fit over his now enlarged knuckle), he broke a bone in his left elbow which required surgery to insert pins, and he had a laceration over his right eye that required stitches.

I remember telling him as he was recovering from his injuries - -"It's a good thing we don't have a trip to Disney planned this year" (we go in October). :rolleyes1 Yes, I know where my priorities lie ... :rotfl:

OK, gotta go read the rest of your TR.

BTW - Your DDs are beautiful!

Great update! Coral Reef looks great. I will have to schedule that in for our next trip. :) Too bad about the Disney Visa pic. We got there at the opening, and they do spend a lot of time with you. Looking forward to more!

Hi,
Just read the first 8 pages of your TR! it's great so far~! :) I was at the POP from the 16-19th but I didn't see you! I would not have forgotten the two broken arms! I was in WDW with my kids in July. DD sprained her ACL halfway through the trip. It certainly changed the way we vacationed but a good time was still had by all. It's all in my TR! Can't wait to see what happens next! :)
Dana

Your family is so adorable!

And yikes about the mishaps, but it looks like you guys had an awesome time despite the broken arms and the food poisoning and whatnot, that's great! :teeth:

I am doing much better. In fact, as you read my TR you'll see how my right arm especially improves. My left wrist however is still in splint and s-l-o-w-l-y healing. I'm glad to have my right arm back though. I just can't lift things, other than that you wouldn't know.;)

OMG yes, cycling is way more dangerous than you'd think. Did your DH have a hard time getting back out there on his bike? I'd like to get into cycling more next summer but am now a little apprehensive.

Yep, if we ever try to do the Disney Visa photo again we will go at opening.:thumbsup2

Wow, I'll have to check out your TR!

Great trip report. Can't wait to hear more!

Welcome:cheer2: Thanks for reading.

Your family is so adorable!

It is true that in spite of obstacles good times can still be had by all.:goodvibes

For those of you that have already read the Coral Reef post. I finally got the video clip up if you want to check it out. P.7, post #103.:goodvibes

I just got caught back up. We went to the mountains for the weekend. I love the Coral Reef video...that was so cute and the menu is adorable! Now that I'm seeing more and more pictures I think your oldest DD looks more like you hubby and the youngest looks just like you! Speaking of...your DH seems to be enjoying WDW as much as the rest of you! Mine is the same exact way. He'd jumo in the car right now and go if I'd let him. :lmao:

Great idea taking pics of the girls with the people at the passport signings! I wish I had thought to do that. Those books are great aren't they!? Great updates so far. Can't wait to read more!!! :thumbsup2

Do you all automatically start hearing that song in your head when you read my title? Or is it just me?:rolleyes1

So we left off on the plane to Orlando. The nice lady next to me on the plane must have really thought I looked like a lost cause. Every time I'd try to read a magazine, get a drink, etc. She'd offer her assistance. I was glad to accept it.:goodvibes

The flight was a little bumpy. Hurricane Ike was still in the gulf. It had not yet hit Texas. The fasten seatbelt sign was on more often than not. It wasn't anything too scary. In fact the girls enjoy it.

Upon arrival (BTW what is with that airport? It was under construction 11 months ago for our last trip and still looks the same.) Here's MCO's mini monorail ride. :)
DisneyWorld2008189-1-1.jpg

We found our way to Magical Express. There were pretty long lines. A lot of families had surrendered to sitting on the floor. Even though it was a long wait most everyone around us was in good spirits.
DisneyWorld2008190-1.jpg

I mean, you're going to Disney. Finally some people came around to tell us that the roads were pretty bad from rain and that they were doing the best to get the buses back to pick us up. We waited for about an hour and visited with the people around us. We thought it was funny. There was an older couple behind us that was traveling to WDW for the first time for their son's 50th birthday. They were a nice couple. She commented on how she was unsure about their trip because there seemed to be a lot of kids in line for the buses. :rolleyes1 Who would have thunk there'd be kids at Disney?:confused3 :lmao:

Finally our bus arrived and our entire bus was filled with people going to Pop Century. It's so funny how excited you get to see the ME bus upon arrival but on the way home it's the grim reaper.:rotfl2:
DisneyWorld2008192-1.jpg

DH tried to get a picture of the Walt Disney World sign. This is the best he could get from the middle of the bus in the rain.
DisneyWorld2008193-1.jpg

Since I knew the whole bus load was getting off at Pop I told my family to try to move quickly so we could check in infront of most of the crowd. Since we were not retrieving luggage from below we did end of in the front of the crowd.

And we were greated in the best way possible. As we walked in it was exactly 6 p.m. There was a D.J. and several staff members doing The Hussle in the lobby just as we walked in. What a great time for us to check in. It had been a long day of traveling and that was a treat. It was also the only time we got to see The Hussle during our 10 night stay at the Pop.

OH MY !!!I was standing at the counter when they were doing the hustle!!
Our flight was at 8:20 p.m. with SW. But it was delayed about an 1 1/2. So we stayed at POP a little longer. The rain was pouring!! There was thunder and lighting like crazy!! We were at POP Sept. 1-10th !! WE were leaving when you were checking out!! I just can't believe I was standing right there when you were checking in!!:yay:

We were in Rooms 7220 and 7221. What rooms were you all in?
Oh and my DD20 had broke her leg in 2005 and we were at WDW and she had to be in a wheelchair:sad2: We also thought we would have to cancel. But we said no way we are going !! We had a wonderful time!!

You sure are a trooper, going through the race with broken arms!!

Hi! I followed you over from tmkinney's TR and have enjoyed reading so far. I couldn't watch the video because photobucket is doing maintanence, so I'll have to watch it later. Your girls are SO cute! I'm glad that Faith enjoyed her birthday surprise. And the illness, I can only imagine. My DH uncle had a bike accident this year too. He was coming down a hill at about 40 mph when a deer came running out of the woods and plowed into him. He was banged up pretty bad and sore, but nothing broken. We had to giggle a little just because you never would think of a deer hitting a bike. I feel so badly for you that you had to have BOTH arms in a world of hurt. What a great husband you have. I did giggle a little when I pictured your DH fixing your hair and trying to do your girls hair. My DH "claims" he can't put in a pony tail because of his "big man hands".:rotfl:
I look forward to finishing your TR!!

Oh wow, I am hearing so many horror stories about bicycle accidents. It's going to take courage to get back on one. Not many people can say their cycle accident involved a deer though.;) Yep, hubby DOES NOT normally do the girls hair at all. He did know how to do a simple braid though which really helped with DD7's long hair.

Couldn't see video do to maintenance. But I love the other pics.

Thanks, I just checked and the video is working now. It still makes me smile every time I watch it.:goodvibes

Loooove the video...made me teary eyed!! I can't wait to pull off the surprise for my little guy in just 60 days now!! Thanks for sharing!!:goodvibes

:rotfl2: :rotfl2: :rotfl2: Well, in honor of piney here's probably my least favorite post. I do want to have some dignity left after this so I probably will not share every disgusting detail.

As we left Coral Reef the rain was really coming down.
DisneyWorld2008272.jpg

image047.jpg

It must have cleared out many people because the park looked almost completely empty. My plan was to leave for the night but first DD7 and DH wanted to do Figment of Your Imagination. They really like that ride. So, we made our way to do Figment. After the ride we took our picture and were e-mailing it to my mother. We were going to send it to more people but suddenly out of literally nowhere I needed a bathroom and I needed it quick.:scared: I asked a CM and rushed for the bathroom I was worried that I wouldn't make it. I left DH w/ the girls to figure his own way to the bathroom. Anyway, I did make it and it was not pretty.:rolleyes1

Good thing we were heading back to the resort and did not have further plans for that evening. DH was not sick quite yet and it was the type you don't know is coming. Thankfully we made it back to the resort but suddenly DH had to run back to our room and I ran to the Pop Women's bathroom with my poor unsuspecting children. Thank the Lord they did not get sick.

When I finally got back to our room DH and I compared disgusting details and realized we had the exact same symtoms.  There is no way that it was Coral Reef food. That food wasn't even digested in our stomachs yet and we did not eat the same thing. We did however both eat the wet burrito at Mexico CS for lunch. Lets just say the color that came out of us made us look like fanatic lime green Dis fans. :rotfl2: O.K. where's the embarrased smiley. :confused3 DH remained sick for the rest of the evening. I did recover enough that evening to go swimming with the girls and film some fireworks.

The first several days of our trip we developed a great routine that worked wonderful. Our evening swim was wind down time for the kids. (Then I stole the next idea from another Dis member's TR.) I took their pjs or (if we'd be getting up early) clothes for the next day and had the girls shower and get changed in the locker room. This worked great. DD7 helped wash DD4s hair. Then when we went back up to the room the only thing left to do wash brush there teeth. I loved it. It really seemed to make bedtime more efficient and enjoyable for us all. So this night the girls did put their clothes on for AK the next day. This really did turn out as a time saver because DD4 had trouble getting out of bed the next morning.

Here's a little snip of video I took of the Epcot fireworks that night. It is definitely not of the best part of the fireworks. There are some really neat parts where they shoot much higher fireworks that I did not film this night. It is also very shaky but it gives you an idea of what we saw. About midway through you can see me pan slightly to the left and you can see MKs fireworks going off further back at the same time. Later on during our trip I took better video of it that I'll try to download.

So while the food poisoning episode was not fun or fair. I'm thankful it only lasted for the evening. We were all asleep b/w 9:30-10 and ready for rope drop at AK the next day.

Next up:hourglass: Safari Baby
