The What's For Dinner Thread - July '08(recipe index in OP)

Hey y'all, We had a fun day yesterday. DH's brother's girls came over for swimming with Alexis. I ordered pizzas & cinnamon sticks, I could have slaved over the grill all day and not made the girls any happier! They had a so much fun, we might get together again next week. Gotta get that last bit of summer fun in before school starts.
Unfortunately due to my sunscreen allergy I stayed out too long & got a mild sunburn. The girls were fine though slathered down with the stuff. I wasn't able to get one decent pic of them, they couldn't keep still long enough!

Becky, I'm impressed with your tomato! You've done better than I have this year, I've only had five teensy little cherry tomatoes and 3, yes only three jalapeno peppers! Of course your food looks yummy as usual.

I'm sure Lori & Maria are off having fun by now.:goodvibes

Glynis, Glad that you had a great time! :goodvibes Take it easy & don't wear yourself out now.

Unfortunately, We ate more pizza for dinner last night.:sad2: But here's a pic of the tuna & soba noodles I fixed on Wednesday.

Not sure WFD, I've had 3 cups of coffee & still feel like I'm in a fog today. I think it's my sinuses.

YUM on the tuna! What's the coating? I'm guessing it's a wasabi sauce you have with it?

I don't know what is for dinner now. I am starving already, maybe too hungry to go to the store to get fish. I just got back from three hours at the hair salon. I hate getting my hair cut/colored because it takes so darned long!

Kathy -- The linking to the recipes is a great idea!

We've had some bear sightings too...Fun, Fun!
 You can keep those! Caili will take deer and bunnies. My parents' yard is completely overrun with rabbits this year. She has said that if they have too many, she would be happy to take some home with her.

Especially if I get the PIE!!!! :cloud9: :rotfl:

Have a fun weekend, and I hope you get your pie.

But here's a pic of the tuna & soba noodles I fixed on Wednesday.

That looks SO good! I am glad you had a fun day yesterday. Take care of that sunburn!

Liam has another game tonight, and it involves travel, so we are just having cold cut sandwiches...ham and cheese for the kids and some kind of turkey sandwich for me.

Becky, That's the wasabi pea crusted tuna & asian pesto. I posted the recipe on the last thread (page 96), it's one of the recipes we saw demo'ed at last year's F&W fest. (I did use a prepared wasabi sauce I bought at World Market for garnish, the little squiggles at the bottom.) I didn't make the vinagrette for the soba noodles this time, just used the pesto on the noodles also.

Don't you hate sitting in the salon for so long! I really should have had my hair done today, my roots are as bad as I've ever allowed them to get. But I'm in a dilemma about where to go. I just haven't been in the mood to sit there for hours. My last visit to the Aveda school the student took 5 hours just to color my hair, no cut! So then I had the "expensive" salon where I've been getting it cut, do the color. Quicker, but more way more expensive than the aveda school and it made my head itchy & the color didn't hold up as well.

Laura, Be careful out on the road! :goodvibes

Had a great time at the amusement park, yesterday! Good news to report: no dizziness in the 100 degree heat, and no fainting!

The kids had a great time, and I enjoyed watching them! I didn't do much else, but it was still nice.

Tonight, Alan is taking me out on a date: dinner and a movie: Dark Knight! I'm so excited! We haven't been out on a date in quite a while.

I will make Mac and Cheese for the kids before we go!

I picked 3 zucchini and 2 yellow crookneck squash from our garden this morning. Got to do something with them. My mom has a great casserole recipe that calls for sour cream, and some other stuff. Guess I'll dig out that recipe and make it for dinner tomorrow. Maybe we'll grill chicken and do that with the squash. I could even make corn on the cob! Sounds good. Hey! I've got dinner planned for tomorrow already!!! Cool!!!

Since this is a "food" thread, I thought I'd share some pictures from my sister. She is trying to decide whether or not to open a cake decorating business. Right now, she just does it for friends, just for the cost of ingredients. Anyway, here's some pictures of cakes she's made. Let me know what you think:

Glynis Your sister does beautiful work.:thumbsup2 How are you feeling this days?

Tonight we are having beef brocolli stir fry. We used to do all kinds of stir fries I wonder why I don't do them more. It is a good way to use and eat those veggies.

Thanks! I'm feeling really good today! No sickness, and the baby is jumping. Good times!

Glynis - Those cakes are gorgeous, she's definitely great at it!!!!:thumbsup2

FYI - If anyone is interested I've been updating the index on the last thread, linking the recipes.

Glynis, those are beautiful cakes. Your sister could charge a lot of money for cakes like that out here. She has excellent frosting and decorating skills. I love the triple tiered fondant covered cake with the green trim, and the one with the roses and the orange base. The only one I am so-so on, decor wise, is the raspberry one...I am sure it is so delicious though! :)

Tell her to make the cake under her fondant taste as wonderful as her cakes look, and she'll be incredibly busy!

Glynis, they are amazing. I love this one! She definitely could be in the business.

I have not been around to much. DH has been working alot, so DS & I have been doing alot of running around.

Today, we have a bridal shower for my future 'neice-in-law'. It is a brunch at a local country club. So I need to stop dressing and get DS & I ready.

Not sure what will be for dinner. Have a nice day...I miss everyone!

Ann

Glynis--The cakes are beautiful! I, too, think that she could do some very good business. My mom did wedding cakes as a side business for a while, but it got to be too much for her. Now they are very few and far between.

Tonight is going to be Greek Beef Stew in the crockpot with some couscous. It was posted on the original thread.

Good Morning!

Kathy, Thanks for linking the other thread! :thumbsup2

Glynis, Your sister does gorgeous work! She should definitely try and make a business out of it. I have always wanted to take a Wilton class but for some reason do not think I have the patience. I am not a great baker to begin with.

Lori, Great thread! Love it! Have a Kungaloosh for me!

Tonight will be cheeseburgers, home fries and corn on the cob. I think we are getting local corn now.

Have a great day all!

Tonight we are having burgers on the grill and the sides to be determined later.

I have to start cleaning this pigsite before I go to work. See ya later gators.

Hey guys we're off to Toy Story Mania, but I'm doing a little drink report over on the Unplugged board. If you want to look. There's some pics.

COB-Circle of Booze, from the planning thread for the podcast cruise in May.

I'm heading over.......

Kathy, Thanks for linking the other thread! :thumbsup2

You're welcome. I had lots of time on my hands yesterday, it was storming here and I wasn't cooking so I worked on it for a while. Still got a good bit to go.

WFD - Shrimp boil!!!:thumbsup2

Hi All! Wow, boy staying away from this thread is risky....I am way behind. Darn those chores anyway!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Laura- Caili would love our yard, We have a brazen little bunny who is eating all of my flower tops. She seems to like the impatiens, which are the only flowers that seem to be doing anything at all. She ate half of the cucumber plants the day after I set them.

Glynis- your sister has managed to take simplicity and elegance to a new level. The cakes are stunning.

I'm glad to hear that you are feeling well latelyu. A trip to Mom's is the best medicine!

Sheryl- I know the hair thing. I finally found a hairdresser who can cut and color my hair so I spend the time. Honestly, I just take my book and she makes me tea and I lay low :thumbsup2 I guess it is pathetic that 3 hours at a salon is like a night out for me :rotfl:

Kathy- you are doing a wonderful job with the threads. Thank you so much! Now if you could just organize my little mess on the computer..........

Dinner has been a mish mash the past two nights. Thursday Buddy and I ate late so I made him low fat hot dogs with sauteed peppers and onions. Corn on the cob and cucumber salad on the side.

Last night Marisa grilled pork chops, 1/2 marinated in Yoshida Sauce and the other 1/2 marinated in Blueberry/ pomegranate dressing. They were good. We had leftover corn and WW couscous on the side.

I am not cooking tonight. All of the kids are going to see a movie., I think Dark Knight so they can eat out, Buddy wants to take Kady to Six Flags, but I think we are having thunderstorms later on. He has a backup plan of Kit Kittredge.

I don't know what I am going to do, I am going for a small party this afternoon for my Aunt's 95th birthday and then coming home. I have a nasty rash like thing that blossomed on my face, the Dr thinks it is poison ivy or something. It hurts like the dickens and is itchy and looks like a train wreck so I may just stay home tonight. My BIL says it is okay to go into the nursing home but I will have him check it when I get there.

Have a safe and good weekend everyone, I know I missed a lot, I read everything. I am sorry.

Here is our dinner from last night, baked orichette in a gouda-asiago sauce, and tomato bruschetta:

Laura is coming here in a few minutes and we are going to Boston to visit the aquarium and ride the swan boats. We'll probably get dinner somewhere in the city.

Glynis, You're sister's cakes are gorgeous! She could make a fortune down here! She seems to have some new, fresh design ideas too. (compared to what I've seen here, anyway) I would think she really could have a very successful business!

Nancy, You are not pathetic at all! I used to feel like it was a treat getting my hair done too. But with my neck giving me trouble, and a student that was as slow as molasses to do my color, it just hasn't been any fun lately. Then having to go a different place for my cut, and the guy who's been cutting my hair is very "Uptown". I mean that in every since of the word, the salon is uptown & he acts rather "poo-poo-shi-shi" for my taste, which makes me a little uncomfortable & not relaxing. But it's the best haircut I've had in a long time! :confused3

Nancy, I hope your rash clears up quickly, so you can at least enjoy your peace & quiet this evening!

Lori, I'm off to read your booze thread!

Becky & Laura, Have a fun girls day out!
