Anybody do Zumba regularly and lose weight from it?

I just started Zumba two weeks ago and I am totally hooked!! It's the first time I have ever gone through an entire class without looking at the clock. It is just so fun.

I haven't weighed myself yet. I don't want to impede my progress in case it's a let down. BUT... I just fit into a pair of jeans that I haven't been able to wear in over a year!!! I'm so happy!!:cool1:

Any other Zumba addicts out there?

I love Zumba!! I exercise pretty regularly anyway, so it hasn't made me lose weight. But what I love about it, compared to jogging or step class, is Zumba really works your arms too.

I've been doing zumba for about a year now and I've lost 15 pounds. I was not overweight to begin with, so that is a significant loss for me. I wish I could say I enjoyed it, but I just don't like exercise at all. However, the results are worth it so I make myself do it. I've heard the classes are a lot more fun, but I don't have time to go the gym every day. Also, it is so much more convenient to do it at home, so I'll be more likely to stick with it.

I can't say I specifically lost weight from it, but it was certainly a motivation to get up in the morning and get to the gym. It did play a big role in my decision to eat healthier and be more active. Unfortunately getting a new job broke my healthy habits :sad2:
Stick with it!

I'm in my last 2 weeks of Slim in 6 and looking for the next program to try. I would love to try Zumba. Can anyone recommend a home Zumba DVD?

I've been wanting to join a Zumba class for a while now and keep putting it off. Guess I'm a little scared by it. Are the steps hard to pick up? It looks like you have to be really coordinated, and I am NOT, lol.

I have been doing Zumba now for about 1-1/2 years and it helps me maintain my weight while having fun doing it! Love it!!

I got the entire DVD collection for ZUMBA Exhilarate which is great. But my favorite out of the entire set is the "RUSH" DVD. It is a 20 minute workout and the songs are fun and catchy too. You can purchase only that DVD on Ebay for around $12. For a 20 minute workout it can really make you sweat. I add arm weights to make it a little bit more challenging too! My kids love doing it with me too! Have fun!! :goodvibes

It's not too bad. I'm not too coordinated and made it thought the first classes without too much trouble. There were two or three combos I couldn't catch on but as long as you keep moving, you're good. A lot of the steps remind me of those old school low impact classes that I used to take in the 90s.

While on vacation in OBX this summer, we were at the (fantastic) pool at the "Y" and they had Aqua Zumba class which we attended. It was SOOO fun. :thumbsup2 I sure wish they had that up here. :(

As for regular Zumba, it's always something I've wanted to do. I just haven't started. (dumb me)

.

Zumba can be very different from instructor to instructor. My main problem with Zumba is they do not require instructors to have anything but a few hour course to teach...I prefer to take classes from trained professionals. they also do not do high tracks, interval training, etc. That being said, I took Zumba for 4 years before our instructor changed the name of the class because she wasn't happy with Zumba corporate. I think group fitness classes are awesome and can be totally life changing. I have lost 60lbs in the 4 years I have been taking them, I do mostly attribute that to diet and not exercise, though. The most change I have seen from exercise was from strength training classes though.

Well, now I'm depressed. I weighed myself. I haven't lost an ounce. In fact, I think I gained a pound.

I know muscle weighs more than fat. But still!! My clothes are fitting so much better, but the scale is really a disappointment. Oh well, I'm not giving up after 2 weeks. Gotta keep moving forward with my Zumba.

Like others mentioned -I don't think I have ever lost significant weight from exercise alone. I personally think it is about 80 percent diet for weight loss.

However there are so many good things that come from exercise.
Cancer prevention, improvement of cognitive function in seniors, increased energy, decreased depression, improved bone density, fall prevention - the list of reasons to exercise goes on and on.

I occasionally take a Zumba class. I have two left feet and have never been made to feel anything but welcome. There is always someone in there just as bad at it as I am. People are way too self-absorbed to care what you are doing in class. As long as you are not up on the front row in a gold lame bikini -they aren't going to pay any attention to you.

Do not get discouraged - the same thing happened to me. I noticed after about a month or so that my thighs were noticeably thinner, but the scale did not budge a bit. It took several months before I actually started to lose weight, but once it started the pounds just seemed to melt away. I don't really understand it because if you can see a visual difference you'd think the scale would reflect that. Maybe it is due to the fact that muscle is replacing fat at the beginning and then after a while, the muscle stops building up but the fat continues to burn off? That's the only explanation I can come up with. :)

You're right. I was just so happy when my clothes started feeling loose. What a let down.

I will bet in another week or two you'll see your weight down.:thumbsup2
Jeans don't lie!!
Keep it up.
Checking it out on Ebay soon.
You're inspiring me and my daughter to final give it a try!

I do it at school and at the gym in Texas. Different instructors, different results. When I'm in Texas, the instructor was awesome at getting every one to move faster and more energy. The class at school is a little bit slower. We'll do just a couple of faster songs towards the end. The benefit to taking the class at school is she starts off with teaching the moves at the beginning of the semester. Once you learn some of the basics, it's easy to pick it up with any other instructor.

Sadly, the instructor in Texas moved too far away and the drive to the gym was too far away. Her replacement is just too immature to be leading a group of adults. Both times I walked out before the end of the class.

I haven't seen any difference in my size, but I feel a hundred times better just going there.
