Day 4 part 5 - Perfect Spot for MMY and How Late Do We Stay For EMH?
August 14th, 2011
Most people watch the parade, then Wishes, but we had a different plan. I have a friend who worked at Magic Kingdom all summer (college program) and she told me about this great tip she used on several occasions. After Wishes the hub really emptied out, but we stayed put. First we found a bench somewhere in the middle, but we were facing away from the castle. However, it didn't take too long before even more people left and we were able to score a seat on the bench right behind the partner statue. We now had front and center seats for Magic, Memories and You!
View from our seat:
We didn't want to lose our seat, so Ron stayed put while I went to take a photopass picture.
Then it was my time to save our seats while Ron went in search of a snack. We had been smelling the Disney popcorn for days, it was time to give in to temptation and get a taste of it! It actually took him much longer than it should have because he looked everywhere for a cart, not realizing there was one near us. Oops.
After a short wait "Magic, Memories, and You!" started. Though we had caught a glimpse of it earlier, it was our first
real time watching it. In one word, AWESOME!!! All the different effects are spectacular, and the rocket just WOW! It is such an emotional show as well. Even my friend who worked at MK said she saw it every single occasion she could, sometimes twice a night. It's a must-see. We even saw parts of the Wolf Family videos (if you haven't seen them yet, do a search on the Dis or
Youtube. They're great!). I didn't take any pictures this time because I wanted to truly enjoy it, but I promise we came back to watch it again.
We had another bit of a wait, then Main Street Electrical Parade started. Because it was the second parade the hub was still relatively empty and we did not even have to get up from our seat. I attached my camera and gorilla pod to the fence behind me and was able to get some pretty good pictures.
I was a big fan of Spectromagic and was looking forward to seeing this classic, but I was kinda disappointed. It could be because we were sitting far away from the curb and out of reach from the "energy" of the parade and crowd. But mostly, I just think the floats are kinda underwhelming. And the music, so annoying! It's like the same few notes repeated over and over and over again. Spectro had much better music!
After the parade ended evening Extra Magic Hour had already started and it was time for more rides! Will we last until 2am?
First, another castle picture, because you can never have too many, right?
Then Ron had to make a pit stop at the restroom, so I took some pictures. We were in Fantasyland, but very close to Liberty Square.
We couldn't use our two FPs left anymore, as FPs lines were closed during EMH. Now, what attraction had we not done that is fit to be done late at night? The Haunted Mansion, of course!
Well, it seems that everyone else had the same idea because you should have seem the mass of people converging over there. Wait time was about 20 minutes, our longest wait of the day. We got in line, and obviously chose the scenic route to see all those changes they made to the queue. For some weird reason nobody was taking that way anyway!
The line was moving kinda fast and apparently this is the only photo of the queue that I took.
I did take several shots of the mansion itself. They're a bit blurry and dark, but it adds to the spookiness.
Haunted Mansion is such a fun and detailed attractions. So many things to look at, we will need to come back. I really love the new hitchhiking ghosts, and the way they played with our heads. Fun!
Though we couldn't use our FPs for it anymore, I was hoping Jungle Cruise would still be open. Unfortunately, it wasn't. Boo. This will be at the top of my list for our second day there!
Another attraction we hadn't done yet that is a don't miss was Pirates of the Caribbean, so there we go. We walked almost all the way on, hitting a line only at the very end. The CM working there said "Front row for the newlyweds". Sweet!
As we exited our pirate life I noticed that Aladdin's Carpet had no wait at all. Why not?!
I never really figured out what the thing in the back controls. I think it's the tilt, but it's hardly noticeable. Too bad, I would have sat with Ron had I known.
It was getting pretty late and we were starting to feel sleepy. Why not a tour on the wildest ride of the west to wake us up? The wait was 10 minutes max for Big Thunder Mountain, and the wind in our face did help energize us a little. No Splash Mountain for us, didn't want to get wet that late.
I wanted to do more rides, so we walked through Fantasyland. Unfortunately, wait times were still way too high for our taste and we decided to leave. We did something I rarely ever get to do, walk through the castle.
You can see the time here, to prove we were really in the park that late.
Can you believe that there were still photopass people at 1 in the morning? And we don't even look too incredibly tired! Not sure which one is more unbelievable. Haha
I took a few final photos while Ron went in search of something to eat. He didn't find anything as all the CS were closed, the only thing left was ice cream.
We made our way to the bus stop and were about 8th in line. I guess we decided to leave at the right time because soon people started pouring in behind us. It took a while before a bus showed up (15-20 minutes), but then 2 buses showed up at once. Both got full pretty quickly. We were happy to be sitting and we finally pulled out of the MK around 1:30am.
Even though we were both tired, we both had trouble sleeping that night. Thank god it was not an early morning the next day!!!
