Zoloft

I am currently taking Zoloft... I started out the same way you are... the only side effects I had in the beginning was the clinching of my teeth for a couple of days... My Dr had told me about that so when it happened, I was prepared... Everything has been great since!

I've been taking 50 mg of Zoloft a day for almost 2 years. No sides effects or drugged feelings. :goodvibes

Lisa - Do you mind if I ask how many milligrams he prescribed you?
He gave me 50 mg tablets. He hasn't given me a prescription yet but gave me a month's worth. If it works then he will give me the prescription next month.

My doctor started me on Zoloft today for depression. Anything I need to look out for with this medication. He told me to take 1/2 tab for this week and then up it to a whole tab. After that he will revisit it in a month and see how it goes.

You may not feel anything for a few weeks--or it could work right away. Give it time. It was good stuff and worked wonders for me :).

I do know that when you are ready to come off of it--you do need to be weaned.

When I was ready to come off of it--i kept forgetting to take the darn things--and my midwife....well....urged me to not quit cold turkey. I felt on top of the world---but with all that bad news about it---I listened....but only partly. Nothing bad happened.

I do not recall what my dosage was--but I for some reason think it might have been 50 or 100. I was on it for about 6-8 months (again, don't recall exactly).

Zoloft has worked miracles for a close loved one. I remember it taking about 3 weeks to see a change in their outlook on things. Please follow up with your doctor on a regular basis, and if you go off follow their instructions closely. It is not habit forming, but you must slowly wean off of it. Hugs.

I couldn't tolerate zoloft at all. It made me really tired and I think I had a mini- seizure. Oops, maybe I shouldn't have told you that! I just didn't like it, so I got a different one. :sunny:

As was mentioned antidepressants are powerful drugs that alter the levels of neurochemical transmitters in the brain. Any drug that works on the brain is more likely to have serious side effects, and these are no exception. Luckily, there are a variety of them on the market, all of which have different side effect profiles, so it is sometimes a matter of trial-and-error to find the one that is just right for an individual. The thing is, the beneficial effects tend to increase with time, while the side effects decrease with time, so that the first couple of weeks can be frustrating - lots of side effects, few beneficial effects. It is important to stick with them.

Oh, and yes, you can be allergic to them...you can be allergic to ANY drug. It certainly isn't all that common with antidepressants, but it can happen.
