Zipping up the Flame Suit

On Monday night, it was just me and my two boys, ages 5 and 2. We had to wait in a 45 minute line just to get on a bus back to Pop Century from MK. It was PACKED! Everything was ok until we got to the 3rd row of the que. I figured it was time to get the baby out of the stroller even though he was sound asleep. So I get him out and he starts screaming. The stroller flies backwards. My 5yr old is trying to pick up my backpack. Baby's still screaming. Mass chaos!! Luckily some very nice people in line help me get situated. Finally we get to the bus and it's standing room only. I let the people behind me go because there's no way I can stand on a bus with a sleeping 2yr old in my arms, a stroller, a diaper back pack, and my 5yr old. The next bus comes and a very nice man carries my stroller on the bus for me and I sit in the first 2 seats. Me with ds on lap, older ds in seat next to me with the back pack and my stroller proped next to me. The bus gets filled up quickly. Towards the end, a woman gets on with a sleeping baby. No one offered her a seat. I felt sooo bad. I kept trying to figure out a way for my 5yr old to get up and stand next to me so she'd have a seat. But there was no way for me to hold on to him, and the sleeping baby, and the stroller. Then, 5 minutes after we take off, the 5yr old was sound asleep as well. I am really hoping that people weren't looking at me and my 5yr old, thinking we were rude because I didn't give up his seat. There was just no way....

Disneywithmyboyz - I would never be upset with someone for not making their young child give up his/her seat. I agree with what the earlier poster said about your child paying/having just as much right to that seat as anyone else.

Just playing devil's advocate here, but if we want to be assured of having a seat on a bus or other form of transportation, and we make sure to be first in line to do so whether that means leaving early or staying late enough to make it happen.... should we be penalized for that because someone at the end of the line "needs" a seat more than we do for whatever reason? (they have kids, they're older, etc)

I'll gladly hold your 3yo hand. Or better yet just pop him in my lap since I am in a wheelchair. Sorry but stroller are supposed to be folded and I am surprised that a CM did not remind her of this when she got to the monorail. I know when our kids were younger we were constanlty reminded by CM that strollers were to be folded on all Disney transportation.

I thought the perk of staying at a monorail resort with little stroller-age kids was because its the only WDW transportation that lets you keep the stroller open! Before we booked our hotel, we thought seriously about this perk after reading that tip on these boards.

My DH and I were seated and saw the same thing happen. At which point, my DH stands and lets a woman with a child have his seat. Some people are so rude to take up numerous seats for a stroller. What are they thinking?

Maybe they're thinking, "I'll get this stroller up off the floor so that more people can get on." Or, maybe they're thinking, "If someone needs the seat, they'll ask." Or, maybe they're thinking, "I've been crammed into rides and attractions and lines and shows with people for ten hours -- I want this space to myself."

Or, maybe they just wanted to sit down and didn't think at all. I refuse to believe that everyone who takes up extra space does it to purposefully be rude. Some people are just tired and perhaps unaware that they're supposed to be checking out everyone entering the bus / monorail to be certain that no one else needs a seat more than they do.

We had one bus driver who was so intent on asking trivia questions during a downpour (with a sardine-can packed bus) he nearly rearended the bus in front of him ... he went off the road to avoid crashing. We all yelled for him to "Just drive!" but he kept on with the trivia. Then, the rain got really heavy and he went off the road a second time on the expressway (or whatever its called down there)...still asking trivia questions, us yelling "Just drive"!!! Thank GOODNESS I insist on waiting for another bus, so each of my 4 children have a seat. Those 2 near-accidents sent standing adults all over the place. My kids barely stayed on their seats. If they had been standing, they could not have held on through that. After that, we were doubly sure to wait for another bus when it got to standing room only. There are only 2 of us adults, and holding 4 light, weaker children and a stroller, we are outnumbered. The poster who said that their kids are paying customers too and deserve a seat, I will upgrade that comment to "They are paying customers too, and NEED to be in seats, which are more stable than standing, in case the bus has an accident or near-accident." No flames from me!!

My family of 5 got on a SRO bus and my 4yo dd was being jostled around when a nice women caught her. She then offered to share her seat with my 4yo. She even asked me if it was ok to put he arm around my DD so she would not fall out of the seat because she was on the edge.
Another time my 4yo had her own seat and I told her to sit on my lap because another little girl around 4 was standing. I think small children should be seated when ever possible for saftey reasons.
Also I would give up my own seat before having my 10yo dd do so, again for saftey reasons.

We are renting a car in WDW more for the convenience factor than anything else, but I've got to tell you that I'll feel better having my daugher secured in a car seat.

He, he... just kidding. However I am SO done with inconsiderate people. It so bugs me that someone else doesn't take the half second to be considerate and think of someone else after a tired day at the parks.

Every state has all kinds of crazy laws about what kind of carseat your child needs specific to her age AND weight, then they expect us to send our kids to school on busses that DON'T EVEN HAVE SEAT BELTS! We are renting a car in WDW more for the convenience factor than anything else, but I've got to tell you that I'll feel better having my daugher secured in a car seat.

I completely agree. Even if the busses don't have seatbelts I don't think they should let people stand on them. Just with regular driving and I'm an adult it gets very tiring holding on and swaying back and forth and dealing with all of the quick stops. If there are no more seats I wait until the next bus comes along.

I am used to packed buses in Mexico, so I can hold on. But I don't think my DD7 could if we should stop quickly. I will stand. I have no problem standing. I am glad I can after having leg problems last year due to a thyroid condition. But.. I want my daughter to sit. My boys are old enough to hold on tight, so I usually ask them to give up their seat. I want them to be gentlemen.
