What are Zebra Domes? Realize it's some kind of dessert - but can anyone describe it and what you like about it? Does it have the same cult following as Dole Whips, Strawberry Shortcake and Kona Kones? Can you get it anywhere except at AKL?

I'm not good at explaining what they taste like (I'll leave that up to someone else) but here is what they look like:

I'm pretty certain that you can only get it at AKL. Those were purchased at the Mara (sp?)

They have a small piece of sponge cake on the bottom topped with a mousse ( "coffee-ish" flavor is how I would describe it). There are stripes of chocolate ganache on top. As far as I know, you can find them at Boma and Mara in the animal kingdom lodge. That picture is yummy...wish I had some now!

My mother says they're to die for. Never had one myself but can't wait. They can only be found at AKL at Boma and Mara. We're staying at AKL for 1 night in Oct and again for 2 nights in Dec. I really want to try these.

I don't even like coffee flavor, but I found these to be delicious. It is tough to explain the taste, but they are really soft and sweet. Almost too sweet, 5 come in the packs from Mara, and my wife and I couldn't eat more than 2 each at a time.

We had these at Boma last week and honestly I don't see what the hype is all about. I'm a desert lover and all the things that go into a zebra dome are things I like, but overall it came off as just a smush of stuff without any dominant taste or texture.

ETA - this was not my first encounter with a zebra dome. I've had them on numerous other visits and still have the same reaction.

I wasn't impressed much with them the first time I had them, either. I think that I expected way too much after reading all of the hype about them on this message board. I had them while eating at Boma and just thought eh? :confused3 This is it? I much preferred the bread pudding over the zebra domes that night.

Fast forward to my last trip when I stopped off at the Mara for lunch. I decided to give the zebra domes one more try and I enjoyed them much better the second time around. I think that it's possible to be let-down from all of the hype and I believe that's what happened to me for my first try of them at Boma's.

I don't really care for them....but here is the recipe I have in my files.
