Did I miss an ingredient? I love guacamole but mine doesn't taste that great.
It has avacado, tomatoes, onion, garlic, fresh lime juice and salt/pepper.I left it all in chunks and did not mush anything.
Any suggestions to help out the flavor?
Thanks.
Debbie

Isn't it supposed to have jalapenos in it?

Yep, peppers are important!

you could strain hot salsa and add it. Adding it straight makes it too watery.

If you send it to me, I'll be happy to taste it and let you know what's missing :rolleyes1

You could try a couple dashes of hot sauce too. You could also make a garlic paste with some salt. That would really bring out the flavor of the garlic and kick it up a notch.

But don't confuse heat with flavor! Experiment with your flavorings, to bring more depth to the dish. Sam Choy and I were just talking about this the other day - if you just BAM it with chilis, then you have a bottom, base taste - your avocado and tomato - a top taste, your hot chilis, and not much in the middle. Don't forget a pinch of salt - it's amazing how it can wake it up. Also, you might want to try a different kind of tomato, or perhaps several, yellow tomatoes for a mellow juiciness, and romas or grape/cherry tomatoes for a cheery "snap".

I usually take the easy route and put about 1 tablespoon of my favorite salsa per avacado, add a squeeze of lemon juice, and salt and pepper.

Are you using Hass avacados? The small dark green ones? We have big, light green avacados here in Florida, and those are just tastless however you try to dress them up. :sad2:

Oh.I didn't know it had a pepper in it.Mmm.Ok.I guess I'll just pick one up at the store and add it in.I love spicy.
Thanks!!
Debbie

You would hate my guacamole...:lmao:

I put in lots of fresh squeezed lime juice
onion, just a dab
minced tomatoes
dash of salt

Tastes fine.

Quick.... put the pit in with the guac before you leave it, or it will be all brown and yucky when you return.

On "Ultimate Kitchens" some chef told the secret additive she uses to keep it "fresh" for a day. I should have wrote it down!

So putting the pit in the guac. keeps it from turning..huh?

Wow.Thank you all for jumping in to help! I do have some tabasco and I added a little more salt/pepper.
Yes we do have Hass Avacados.Yum!
I'll go try those tips right now!

A chopped jalepeno pepper and cilentro - that's what gives it that extra zest!
I wish you could send me some, I love guacamole!!!!!

Might be the avacado.

As a former guacamole-from-scratch maker at Chi-Chi's - here's a few things you need to add:

Diced green chilies
Worcestershire sauce
Tabasco sauce

Don't go overboard with the Tabasco, but definitely - put in those green chilies. :thumbsup2

I agree. The avocados you use should be very soft. You don't necessarily want SQUISHY (they make a decent tasting guac, but the color is sort of unappetizing) - but definitely soft. If you can't slice the avocado in half easily with a good sharp knife - it won't make good guac.

And without a doubt - use Rose's Lime Juice - there really is a difference. I've tried others and the Rose's just works with avocados better.
