Yuck to modern music

YES! I have liked them since their album came out back in August 2008 in the UK. I have seen and met them a couple of times, and they are the nicest and sweetest guys. It's so nice to be able to go to a concert and it sounds even better than the CD. I whole heartedly agree about them! (as well as most of your other recommendations!)

You have to see them live! I saw them back in August at Webster Hall and then this past December at Terminal 5. They are coming back to the States this week!

I was in the car with my Aunt the other day and she calls them "the band that got you VIP" (but that's a whole different story). They came on the radio and I got really excited for them. Also! I was in Roosevelt Field last weekend and they were playing the video for Breakeven. Again, I got really excited.

When they came here in December, I was legit the first person on line. I FROZE. You need to see them live, they are amazing.

I heard they were going to be in the states this week! I don't think they are coming to NY though, I did check on their site. I really hope they make it big - they have such a refreshing sound compared to everything else out there right now.

My favorites are Shinedown, Theory of a Deadman and Distant Lights.

I love Theory of a Deadman and I like Shinedown a lot. But Shinedown, IMO more recently has become sort of Nickelback-like and gone away from their more rock type stuff. Very catchy but I don't know, not quite as good as their first 2 albums. Saw them live about 4 years ago...amazing!

I AM an old fart. I haven't liked much of the music since the bands became groups of guitars instead of the old orchestra instruments.

By the way, what is Auto-Tune?

Here is a great example of autotune:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=irk3_p15RJY

first minute in a half is intro. three minutes in is the before and after of autotune. Seriously can't say it enough, this is an eye opening movie.

I thought the downfall of radio was Clear Channel though. There was a lot of backlash a few years ago for what they were doing. I haven't kept up on it in a while.

This is why I love sirius radio. The only time I listen to regular radio is when I am trying to get weather report or local talk radio. Other than that its sirius or my CD's or Ipod.

Wow that's crazy! And I hate to say it, but the most recent "autotuned" singer that comes to mind is Taylor Swift. Anyone ever heard her live on TV? Yowsa!

I love her cd's but I did hear her at The Grammy's :scared1:

I saw Taylor live when I she opened for Keith Urban and liked her better than I do on her CD's. I guess I just like entertainers a little more "real". I don't need them to be perfect.

I'm not a Taylor fan I was there to see Keith  but she wasn't bad and certainly not worthy of a :scared1:

I can find plenty of good music out there to listen to. I have oldies and new stuff, country, rap, musicals, instrumentals, folk, stuff from pretty much every country you can name, opera. I give everything a chance because I just never know what will strike my fancy. Sometimes it's just one single song from a singer or group but I absolutely adore that one song and I don't really care if I hate everything else they put out there. I'm just really glad they did that one thing that I love.

Some of what is held in such high esteem like U2, Doors, Beatles etc, I never liked and never will. Right now I seem to be listening to a lot of Imogen Heap. Come Here Boy is my favorite of the moment.

I know what you mean. Its funny that you said Shinedown reminds you of Nickelback, it was Chad from Nickelback that gave Theory their first start!
I love Shinedown, just saw them a few weeks ago in Atlantic city. Brents voice is amazing live. Alot of my friends say that some of their new songs are too commercial, but i love their new album Sound of Madness.
"What a Shame" "Breaking Inside" "If you only knew" and "Sound of Madness are all terrific songs. They will be heading back this way in April and playing with Nickelback.

I'm a fan- and I have defended her on many threads...... but her Grammy performance was HORRIBLE. :scared1::scared1: It deserved double :scared1:

Taylor Swift fan ..
I have loved Muse since before even Twilight. I saw them in concert with My Chemical Romance :lovestruc

Paramore I love, along with Adelitas Way and Shinedown

Sorry, I didn't know that being a bad singer was considered "real" if anything, it makes her faker that they edit her voice so much. Plus the whole "WHO ME? I WON? NO WAY!" personality is fake as well.

I like all kinds of music from Tiny Tim to Cannibal Corps to Frankie Yankovic. I just love music and have an opinion about all music. I was thinking of the bands like Vampire Weekend, Cage the Elephant, etc... This is what i came up with. Some are harder to find but great bands.

Walking Concert (GREAT BAND!!!)
All girl summer fun band
Coconut Records
Don Caballero
The High Numbers (old but not a lot of people know about them)
The international noise Conspiracy
Komeda
Ra Ra Riot
Sweep the Leg Johnny

Okay, this is why I love my XM Radio. Granted, I rarely stray from Jam On and Classic Vinyl, but I'm sure there's other channels with good music!

Dawson, love your shout-out to Warren Haynes. I saw the Allman Bros. last October for the first time ever (which is totally weird because I'm from the South) and they BLEW ME AWAY. Derek Trucks is amazing...absolutely amazing. I saw them on the tour with one of my absolute favorite bands, Widespread Panic, and they did a ton of songs together.

There's good music being made out there...you just have to know where to look for it. This is a good time to plug another favorite and they just happen to be boys from my neck of the woods and have a new album out - The Drive By Truckers. If you like good old rock and roll music and you're not listening to the Truckers, you are missing out. Also, check out Jason Isbell - Jason used to be in the Truckers before he branched out with his own band. He just happened to show up at a party I was at the other night and jammed with some friends of mine. Pretty stinking cool.

I like music that inspires me to move. Lots of times I will catch a good beat on the radio and then the lyrics start and that's when I change the channel!!

Is it me, or is every song about sex? Not just a subtle hint in the song...full on hard core raunch fest!!!
It's all "I wanna put it here or can ya take that"!!!! Seriously??? I mean seriously????

My kids and I will be riding down the street jamming out and then the lyrics start!:headache:

I'm 15, and I'm stuck in the 60s and 70s when it comes to music. My iPod consists of:

The Beatles (my very favorite... even before Beatles Rock Band)
The Who
The Rolling Stones
The Kinks
Wings
Led Zeppelin
The Monkees
Queen
Simon and Garfunkel
Bruce Springsteen
Aerosmith
Billy Joel
Donovan Leitch
Herman's Hermits
Van Halen

I guess I'm just an old soul. :cutie:

These are my favorites too--excepte I'm 40 years older than you:)

For the others over 50 here--there are quite a few new artists out there that aren't radically different from the stuff we grew up with. Just about every musician on the planet was influenced by The Beatles. The older bands will always be favorites, but it's nice to here fresh, new music that has a hint of the classics. The thing is, you won't hear this stuff on most regular commercial radio. You'll need to look for some alternate sources as suggested here. I just hate to see my fellow boomers completely give up on new music.:)

P.S. to m!ssemmxO--I have a poster of your avatar. It came from the Beatles fan club in 1968
