After my initial post and the responses I received, I decided to defer to those who have far more experience then I (hey- that's why I started reading this board) and change the vacation!

Instead of going April 5-12, we are now planning on January 26th-Feb 2nd. It seems like there are a lot of plusses:

less crowded (BIG plus)
lower room rates
more chance of discount codes
We get to go sooner!

The only minus seems to be the chance of cold weather, especially because we wanted to take advantage of the pool, and maybe a waterpark. IF IT HAS A HIGH OF 50 DEGREES THAT WEEK, I'M GOING TO START SHOOTING FLAMES!!! :darth: :rotfl:

Seriously, I think its a good move. Also, my son turns 7 on Jan 29th, so we can celebrate his birthday in Disney, which is kind of neat.

Thanks again for all the advice everyone gave. I think this time frame will work out better.

btw- I had said that my son has the coolest hidden mickey birthmark on his arm and I would post it. Unfortunately, I am not allowed to upload images (maybe because I am still too new?) so I added it as my avatar!!!

I think your son will enjoy spending this b-day at disney! Have you decided where to dine for his B-day? My kids like chef Mickey's a lot. make sure you book those ADR's now!!!! Also I think you can go to guest service and get him a b-day pin.

happy planning!!!:wizard:

We'll be there that week too. I'm not counting on getting in the water but it would be nice. Our weather right now is exactly what it's supposed to be in Orlando that week and each day I keep gauging how it feels and reminding myself that I'll be coming from -20 temps and that 72 will feel balmy.

We have been in the World in December and also January, and the weather was great during the day and a little chilly sometimes at night. That however, did not keep our DGD and DH from swimming! The water was heated and the only time they were cold was when they got out and ran back to get their towels and sweatshirts!!!!:rotfl:

We went at that exact time last year. Just missed snow by a day, but the weather overall was fine. Chilly on the first few days (long pants, t-shirts and jackets), but on our last two days, we wore shorts and short sleeve tees to the parks, and it was definitely nice enough to go swimming, which we did. I think if you want swimming/waterparks to be a focal point of your vacation, this is the wrong time to go. If the parks or something else is the focal point, and you'd like to take a dip in the resort pool sometime during your vacation, I think odds are you'll be fine at this time of year. We're going back in late January 08 and I'm definitely planning on hitting the pool at least once. *crossing my fingers*

My favorite thing about the trip? With the exception of Ariel in her grotto, we didn't wait for any attraction for longer than 15 minutes, and we got to do/see everything we wanted to VERY quickly.

when you go city hall at the MK to get his birthday pin. Show them his birth mark.

who knows you or he might get something. ;)

one time in dec it was 40 degree - that say the coldest and I mean the coldest was probably the same temperature in March - but in March the winds were blowing. So everyone was freezing - except this very nice man. I finally asked where he was from and while he wasn't cold. He say he left that morning from Alaska where it was 30 degree below zero.

so how cold it gets completely depends upon what you are comparing it too.

January is our favorite time to go to WDW. We've been there three times in January and our weather has been quite delightful. Usually in the 70's during the day. It cools down in the evening. We just need a light jacket. We think it's a lovely time to be at WDW.

We were at Disney last week and I will take January over August any day. However, I did enjoy the free food :goodvibes

Excellent decision! That week is probably one of the least crowded of the year! Now you get to start planning!

We go every year that time and love it. The weather isn't that bad. Sometimes I get a little colder than most but we are coming from the desert. LOL Enjoy

Sorry guys! I edited my post. There was a picture of a completely nude woman on this post but the mods took care of it ( and no I am not psychotic:lmao: )!

We went last year at that time and plan on going around that time from now on, the only downside was having to wear a sweatshirt over all of my new Disney shirts. Although I did get to buy two new Disney sweat shirts.
