Youth Dining Card Question

I am planning a trip to WDW with a large group, and I have some questions about the Youth Dining Cards. I am thinking this is a better option than the meal coupons because 1) I know everyone can eat for less than what the coupons cost, 2) they can only be used for CS locations, and 3) the CS locations are very limited. So with the Youth Dining Cards...

1) Can they be used at sit-down restaurants?

2) Is there a list of restaurants where they can be used?

3) Can they be replaced if lost (if you write down the number on the back)?

4) Can adult chaperones purchase and use the dining card as well?

Thanks in advance for any info you can provide!

My son had the QS coupons for his band trip and was given 2 extras and almost every QS at the resorts and parks (including the water parks and DTD) it included entree, dessert and soft drink.
His is listed as part of a YES program.

I can't think of a CS that isn't listed, on the back of the ones he has left.

That's interesting because the 2013 brochure that a Disney event coordinator sent me shows only about 5 or 6 restaurants at Epcot. The Japanese restaurant, the Chinese restaurant, the Mexican restaurant I know are not on the list, and there are few listed at DTD.

I have done two band trips, the first as just a chaperone, the second I also did most of the planning. The first we got two vouchers per kid second one $20 meal card per day.

On the first trip, I only saw the vouchers once we got there. The list of places to go was very limited. Pretty sure no Columbia Harbor house and only the two head liners at Epcot. This was a 8-12 grade group so some little girls that I knew were not going to get full meals and at the time I did the math and you got your money's worth on very few meal combos, some you lost money.

Second trip I knew about the vouchers and saw the Meal Cards. Like I said each kid and chaperone got $20 per day. Some parents said their kid would only eat ice cream and soft pretzels (and she was ok with that :goodvibes).

1. Quite sure some of the chaperons used them at TS. I know Our band director was to go to Biergarten since he plays in those kinds of bands. They also went to 50's PTC. I think my son used it to buy an overpriced candy bar at the ToT gift shop.

2. Pretty sure all of them at least ones you can use a regular Disney Gift card.

3. We were told no hence the reason we gave them one per day.

4. All they asked us is how many we wanted and in what denominations. There is no reason to restrict them since there is no "deal" in getting them. But they are a much better deal than the vouchers. I know very few kids would get the salad at Pizza Planet. Some wouldn't get the dessert anywhere.

On my first band trip in 06 it was very limited. Only the two main CS in Epcot, Electric Umbrella and Liberty Inn no WS or Sunshine Seasons. The 3 or 4 in the MK, Cosmic Rays, Pecos Bill, The Terrace Noodle shop (?) when it served noodles and rice dishes and I think Pinocchio but definitely no Columbia (this because someone in our group always goes there on trips and knew they would waste a voucher). Maybe 2 or 3 in DHS but not sure since we only did one meal and we knew we were going to Pizza Planet. We didn't go to AK so I didn't really check there. I had to check this all on the night before since my one son only eats certain things.

In answering a question last year I did find the current list and it was greatly expanded. I didn't scrutinize it but I didn't see any Park CS not on the list. I'm thinking that the CS you listed are not Disney owned.

Thank you for the information! I will be speaking to my Disney contact on Monday, but this helps me get the information ready to present to everyone. I definitely think the dining card is the way to go. I've eaten at a lot of CS restaurants at Disney, and I don't think I've ever spent $15.98 which is what the meal voucher costs. There's so much more freedom with the dining card if they can use them at TS and use them for a snack later instead of a dessert at lunch. I'm glad to know adults can use them, too. That's what I was really worried about because we are trying to get a set price for the trip for everyone. It wouldn't work if the youth had one price to pay and the adults had another.

That makes sense that the ones not listed are not Disney owned. The list sounds to be longer, but there are still several restaurants I'd like to eat at that are not listed. Add that to the cost of the voucher, and I think the dining card is the best option. Thanks again!

Just thought of something. If you can't use the meal voucher at a non-Disney owned restaurant, you probably can't use the dining card. But can't you use Disney gift cards at places like Teppan Edo and Yak and Yeti? Those aren't Disney-owned. Anyone know?
