So I have this friend that lives really far away from me. She comes home from Disney and within 24 hours she asks me to run Disney's Princess Half Marathon with her. I agreed. :scared1:

Wait a minute?!? I'm just a pretend runner. I can't run a half marathon!!! Do you know how long a half marathon is? 13.1 miles!!!! That's like really far. I mean look at this map!
PrincessHalfMarathonCourseMap2011.jpg

That goes all over Disney property. I would DRIVE that (normally getting lost once or twice, but that's besides the point), not RUN it. But I have already said yes, and convinced my DH this is a good idea (well he will warm up to it more). So I guess we are going to really do it.

Stick around and watch us progress through our training and trip planning. Hopefully with a little bit of :yay:, a whole lot of :tiptoe:, some :cheer2:, and probably some :sad1:, we will make it to the finish line in 230 days.

Oh did I mention that they want me to get up and run at 5am my body's local time. That's 3 HOURS before I think about getting up normally. :sad2:

I'm also a pretend runner. But we can do it.

It is not all over Disney property, it does not go through Animal kingdom and Hollywood studios:rotfl: Besides running through Magic Kingdom, do I have to say anything else

So as I said in the first post I just got back from a trip to WDW and universal. We had said before the trip that we were going to take a WDW break for a bit. Only problem with that was we had DVC points that had to be used. See we were going to go on the Disney Wonder for Christmas, so we had booked rooms for after the cruise. Then after repricing the cruise and the flights, decided to cancel the cruise. So the question became what to do with the points? We could try for Grand California, or maybe Hilton Head. Or we could just go back to WDW.

So we purchased a TIW card, upgraded the girl park tickets to annual pass. We decided to go in February when the girls will be off from school. Now we had to decide where to stay. Do we stay at AKV again? Or try a different DVC? Decisions, Decisions…..

Then I’m reading the allears newsletter. The Disney Princess half marathon is going to be the day we leave. One of my secret wishes has been to run in Disney. This would be perfect. I look to see if Jenn is on yahoo to talk me down (or maybe join me). Nope she is not around. I mention it to DH. I decide I’m going to do this. When am I going to get this chance again? I have almost 8 month to train. I have been run/walking since April but I had taken a break during June when life got crazy.
As you can see by Jenn’s post above she is joining me on this journey.
Here is a picture of my family, Jenn and her DH. Jenn we need a nickname for your DH.

Ok, so I thought you said one of your dreams was to always run Disney (i.e. CEO or comparable). I'm like, hey...me too! :rotfl2:

You guys are going to rock that marathon. I can't wait to hear all about your planning and training. Good luck!!! :goodvibes

HA!! At least you're a pretend runner. I'm a mind runner -- in my mind, I'm an awesome runner. In reality, I only run when there is food involved or I'm in danger.

See in my mind, I am a couch potato. My mind hasn't jumped on board with the idea of being a runner yet. I spend most of my runs lying to my mind that we will stop at a certain time, just to change plans as I go past that, setting a new time to stop of course. This usually works until my body starts to agree with my mind. :headache:

Thanks! I'm very excited. :cool1:

Jenn your training is going great. I hope I can keep up with you.

So I'm totally serious about this running, so I started training. Figured I have time so I can start slow.
Started Wednesday in the close to hundred degree humid weather. I did 2.03 miles in 38 minutes. I'm using the runkeeper app for my iphone to track my distance and time. I'm going to upgrade it to the pro version soon as a reward for doing two full weeks of training. :cool1:
Thursday was my strength training day. I did an upper body sculpting routine.
Friday was my next running day. I did 2.23 miles in 35 minutes.

Today I had to take the day off way to many thing going on so no time to workout. Tomorrow is my long run day. I'm trying to decide if I want to 3 or 4 miles. I'm going to go to a local park that has a nice running /bike train. I think DH is going to come with me to bike while I run/walk.

As you are just getting back into the swing of things, (darn that Disney trip throwing everything off :rotfl: ) I vote you go for 3.1 miles. That is on schedule of week 1 for Galloway. I always make sure I add that .1 on so I can say I did a 5K in training. Don't worry about keeping up with me. We will go the slower pace come February whether that is mine or yours. :cheer2:

As I said in an earlier post we had DVC points that had to be used by May 2011. We had borrowed points then canceled the trip. So the big decision was where to stay. Our points are at Animal Kingdom Villia(AKV). We have stayed there in both Kadini and Jambo house. Our first trip "home" we stayed at Saratoga Springs Resort in both a studio and one bedroom. We have stayed in Old Key west on FIL's points with FIL. We have also stayed at Bay lake towers.
Here is the view out of our Lake view studio
P1070137.jpg

So we still need to try out the Villias at Wilderness Lodge, Beach club villias, and Boardwalk Villas. As a non owner at those resorts we can start booking at 7 months. So right now the only thing we can book ins AKV.

While talking to DH on at the end of our last trip, we decide not to book AKV. Instead we are going to wait and see what we can get. We were trying to decide which resort we should try and get.
Then I decided to do the Disney Princess Half marathon.:rotfl::cheer2: I look at the list of host hotels. If you stay at one of the host hotels, you don't have to supply your own transportation to the race or the expo before hand to pick up the race bib. The only hotel that had DVC is AKL. So DH called and booked our room.
That's right, we are staying at AKV in Jambo house. We could pick between Kadani and Jambo house. But I figured that the bus transportation will be easier from Jambo. Plus last time we stayed at Jambo we had one of the 5 concierge studios. I didn't think we could get another one now since it was 8 months out. Also we could stay the whole week on our borrowed points in a regular studio. If we did the concierge it would be for less time.

Now I have to wait for Southwests flight to come out. Anyone know what that is supposed to happen.

I will be back later to update how my run went. I'm waiting for DH to get up. Cloe woke me up at 7am crying to go out.
P1110860.jpg

My girls are at MIL's house. So DH is going to go with to bike. Now I just have to wait for him to get up.

So I last left off Sunday morning at 8 waiting for DH to wake up. I htink he got up around 9:30. Maybe a little earlier. We ate breakfast then we were off. Left the house at 10am. Wait where is the water bottles we filled up, back into the house I went. During this time DH is putting the bike rack on the back of the car for his bike ride. He also got a bike tire pump that screws into the frame of this bike so He had to attach it We are about to get into the car to go and I realize my iphone is on the top of the garage fridge. He pulls out while I'm getting my iphone. I think we pulled out of the driveway at 10:25. Only 25 minutes from when we left the house. :rotfl2:

We get to the park, I tell DH i'm thinking of doing 4 miles. Figure I will do 2 miles then turn around. But I tell DH to turn around in a half hour. Only problem is he doesn't have his watch. As we're getting started, DH doesn't like how his tire feels, so I leave him to start my run while he fixes his tire. I later find out that not only did he have to fix his tire, he had to fix his seat and the pouch under the seat that DH has his wallet and phone in.
I alternated running and walking. I didn't do a set timing, I tried to listen to my body, except for when it told me not to run any more. Then I overran it.
DH passed me once, then about 27 minutes in DH passed me going the other direction. So I turned around.
mi Pace (min/mi) Elevation (ft)

1 14:23 13
2 15:26 16
3 14:10 19
4 17:33 -7
My average pace was 15:19. I did 3.75 miles in 57 minutes.

I love that RunKeeper app! Of course, it rarely gets used but when it does it's super helpful. Love that "lake" view you had at BLT -- nice! I've wanted to stay there, but we rent points and theres never availability when we check. Boo!

I think Southwest next fare release date is August 17th.

You did great partner! I took the weekend off from running (like normal). I get back on the treadmill in a few hours. I think I am just going to do 5K today then hit the weights or something.

Why is it the phone always rings right before you are trying to get out the door? Trying to get the door seemed to be near impossible today. Packing a snack for the kids, making sure DD had her gymnastics bag (she hadn't grabbed it), making sure she had socks so she could play on the play structure (she didn't even though her 3 brothers all managed to get them when I asked). Had to remember to fill my water bottle, which I am notorious for forgetting and having to run back in for. So we finally end up going backwards out of the driveway about 15 minutes later than I wanted to be. I made it all the way to the edge of the neighborhood and realize I didn't know where my headphones were. As we all know, these are as important as running shoes. I stop and think for a moment and before heading home to search, I thought to look in my purse (I use a different bag for the gym). Sure enough they were in there and we were on our way again.

I got the kids happily playing at Child Watch and hit the treadmill. I thought I would do a nice easy, light run. Yeah, that didn't happen. I did a 3 minute warm up and then completed 5 min run/1 min walk intervals. I kept pushing myself faster for those 5 minute run intervals. At one point I got the treadmill up to 6 MPH. Okay, so I lasted a whopping 1 minute at that speed (it was the every end of my run), but I did stay on the treadmill. My average run speed was between 5.3-5.7 MPH. I finished the 5K time in just over 38 minutes, which included the 3 minute warm up speed. That averaged out to be around a 12:30 per mile average. I'm not going to win any speed awards at that pace, but I won't come in dead last either. Unfortunately I had to make myself fairly uncomfortable to reach that time, and there is no way in heck I could maintain it for 13.1 miles. So on Wednesday, I am seriously going to make sure I get to the Y in enough time that I can complete my 3.5 without having to push myself so fast.

I have decided to use the training method of Hal Higdon for my training. I hope to run a half marathon at the end of November, so although Princess is a really long way aways, end of November is not. I will probably hang out towards the middle of his training schedule for a few extra weeks until I can get back outside for my runs. People start looking at you funny when you are "hogging" the treadmill at the Y for more than an hour.

Week 2 of my training is not going as well as week one.
Monday was my strenght training day. I tried out a new excersise workout video, it was only okay. Netflix got rid of all of the instant workout that I liked.
Unfortunatly that was the end of staying on track of my training this week. I wound up with a stomach bug. So no workout tuesday.
Today (Wednesay) I was feeling a little better in the morning, but it was raining and supposed to pour all day. I decided to use the treadmill. One problem with the treadmill, I hate it. I really realy hate it. I have no clue how Jenn can run a 5K on the treadmill. I hate the treadmill. I can't run on it. I just have a mental block with the treadmill. I had to force myself to stay on it.
2e6032a9.jpg

I did wind up doing 1.79 miles in a half hour. I might have been able to push for more miles, but I figured i would only do a half hour.

Remember the rain I mentioned? When it never came. So I decided to take Cloe on a run/walk. She was not so keen on the run, but was willing to walk. We wound up doing 1.59 miles in 32 mintues.
Not sure if I overdid it or what, but the stomach bug is not gone. So I have no clue what workout I will do tomorrow if any. I'm going to try for a long run over the weekend. Not sure which day it will fit in better.

Sorry your tummy is still bothering you. You did great for being sick still. I would have been :surfweb: all day.

As it was though, I got to go for my Wednesday run yesterday. So far I am right on schedule. I ran a nice 3.55 miles. The 5K time was at a 12:42 mile. A little slower than last time, but that's okay. I was really trying to take it a bit easier on myself. I would normally do a long run on Fridays when my oldest has gymnastics for 3 hours in the morning. This week though, she has a doctor's appointment for her broken finger. I don't know if I will be able to get my long run in on Friday afternoon, or on Saturday.

We are refinishing the house with new flooring and painting the walls as we go. We are priming to get 2 bedrooms done from tonight through Sunday, and I am pretty sure my DH would not be amused at me needing to go run. Hopefully I will be able to squeeze it in there somewhere.

I'm already thinking about what ADRs we want to make.
The girls request sci-fi
P1060739.jpg

In fact they wanted to know why we didn't go there last disney trip. Main reason we skipped it was FIL would not like it.

Our last 4 trips we have ended with a breakfast at Chef Mickeys. I don't think we can do that this trip :(. Right now we are checking out of our room the day of the half marathon, but i'm thinking of dropping the first night and switching it for Sunday night. I'm thinking we will take an early morning flight home. Assuming Southwest keeps the same flights for February that means we will be taking a 7:30 am flight home on Monday morning. Dropping the kids at school on the way home from the airport assuming they are not too tired. So how does that effect our Chef Mickey's tradition? I wonder what the latest you can make a breakfast ADR there? And if it will be too much to do the day of the half marathon? Then if we do will Jenn and her DH want to join us?
0823004.jpg

Plus we like to try something new. DH has a Google spreadsheet of all the Disney, DDD, Dolphin and Swan restaurants that we have not been to. The list is down to 35 restaurants. I wonder if the Spirit of Aloha show is going on in February.
Then again if we rent a car, I love to eat at some of the chain restaurants that we don't have locally like Don Paublos or Chevy's. Or even an afternoon shake at Steak and Shake.

I figure it is too early to start to talk about what to wear in Disney, instead I will talk out loud about what to wear while training.
I need a great sports bra to run in. Notice I didn't say a good one. It has to be a great one. I have one great one. It is a saucony Motion Sensor sports bra. Has a 3 bra clasp in the back unlike the 2 in the picture. Works great, except my problem is what to wear over it. Maybe if I lose 15 pounds I could run in just the sports bra ( Note to self buy the black one not the white one), but not now. Do I use one my my Nike workout shirts with the built in bra? I could but the double bra annoys me when I only need the great sports bra, now if I'm in the good under amour sports bra then I can layer.
I found this at sports autority
P1120790.jpg

Look at the cute matching shorts.
P1120791.jpg

But notice the short inseam. They might be driving me crazy when I run.
So I would love to see your favorite running outfits.

So besides the outfit, I have to find a great way to hold my iphone while I run. I listen to music as well as track my run with runkeeper.

Should I get an armpocket?
57.jpg

There is 3 different size armbands
The XTREME 30 is our largest model with 30 cubic inches of storage. Typically, you can carry larger electronic devices like the iPhone or Blackberry, along with a set of keys, small wallet, and 7 gel packs.

The SPORT 20 is our medium size model with 20 inches of storage. This equates to holding a Blackberry, or other mid-sized smart phone along with your MP-3 player, ID/credit cards, car key and 5 gel packs.
I like the sport 20 better, but not sure how well the iphone will fit into it. I also don't think any local stores carry it so I can see it in person.

There is also the SPIbelt.
Spibeltparent1-74.jpg

I might be able to check that one out locally.

Oh! A virtual shopping trip! :woohoo: This sounds fun!

I need one of these.
320-3.gif

And I need at least one if not two pairs of these in black.

v4_4ColTemplate

I also want one of these.
