a dishwasher.

mil was visiting thanksgiving weekend and whle the dishwasher was noisily running through it's cylcles (it works fine, just very noisy) sez-"that thing is too loud, i can't hear myself think-how about for christmas i give you a new quiet dishwasher like i've got?". we're like-"that's very generous but ours works just fine", she's "it works fine, but mine is quieter and has the clips on the top rack to keep the smaller items from tipping over and filling with dirty water-please let me get this for you". well we could'nt disappoint her  so she and dh went and picked out a model which gets installed tomorrow. we plan to have a "silent nite" for the first time in 7 years :goodvibes

I think that is a great gift. I have a silent type dishwasher in my new home where as my older house (same model house) had a noisy dishwasher. I LOVE the dishwasher upgrade. I think in time you will wonder how you lived without it.

I think its a great gift. We have a noisy one now, but it would be nice for a quiet one. But the one we've got works great, and we're not gonna upgrade for awhile.

i'm just looking forward to not having to rewash all the juice glasses and stuff that flips upside down (in fact i've never used the heat dry cycle on the current one cuz it just bakes the stuff into the flipped items).

OHHHHH! I wanna new dishwasher for Christmas!! Only I want one that looks like Ewan McGregor!

:rolleyes1 Can I have your old one? Please, Please I don't have one.

You always THINK your dishwasher works okay until you see what a brand new one does.

We have a Bosch dishwasher we got last January and are really pleased with it.

Lucky you - I want a new dishwasher too! Mine also works fine (and I'm happy to have one, because my old house didn't) but is very noisy.

That's a great gift!

My FIL and StepMIL offered to pay for half of a wood stove insert for our Christmas gift. While we would like to get a wood stove insert eventually, we don't have the extra $$ right now to pay for even half of one. Had to say, "Thanks, but no thanks." I'd rather get nothing than be out $2000 to pay for half of our own gift.

if you lived closer you could come pick it up tomorrow! no kidding, i called several people to see if someone with an older model wanted ours-no takers. i also tried habitat for humanity (who is always advertising that they want appliances in good working order-and the old one is an energy efficient model), they said they are "too busy" to take donations :confused3

We have a very old dishwasher...it's avocado green, so what does that tellyou??? Anyhow, it is a Kitchenaid and it is quite noisy(picture a train pulling into oyur kitchen) and I am sure not energy saving (but with only 2 of us, I don't run it every day either). One of these days we are going to get a new stove and dishwasher. Probably after we finish renovating the downstairs bathroom.

Hey, Disney Doll, I have an avocado green :scared1: refrigerator, I think it's a Kenmore. I'd love to get a new refrigerator with the freezer on the bottom and adjustable shelves and bins that actually work and...*sigh*. I just hope that when the thing decides to go that we aren't away on vacation or something.
Hmmm...maybe I'll go out tomorrow and pick out the model I want with all the features and everything. That way I'll be prepared when this 30(40?)-something years-old dinosaur decides to die :badpc: , heheheh.

agnes!

when we were engaged we lived in a victorian house that had been converted into apartments (town history had it that in the 20's the then owner did the conversion to faciliate a brothel). as it passed from owner to owner they would do painting but nothing with the appliances. the fridge in our unit, best we could tell was from the 50's. the thing had a door that weighed a ton and was covered with huge chrome accents. the thing would shudder and cause dishes to shake in thier cabinets. one night we had a power surge and it finaly died. i felt so sorry for the guy from sears who came to delvier the new fridge-he had to call back to the store for 2 other guys to come out and help him haul the thing out of the apartment (and down a long narrow flight of stairs). we knew the thing was an energy sucker but did'nt realize the full scope of it until our pg&e bill reduced by 50%!

Fist off you can post the old dishwasher on Freecycle or craigslist...someone will take it.

Secondly, we got a Bosch last year and its wonderful. I love it!

Well, agnes, when we moved into our house, we had all 3 major appliances in avocado green...stove, dishwasher, and fridge.

We had a fridge from when we lived in our apartment, so the white fridge came up into te kitchen and the avocado green one went into the basement as an extra. It died fairly soon after.

We still have the green stove and dishwasher.

In their defense, based on the color they have to be from the mid-70's era(maybe early 80's) so they are at least 25 years old and still work OK...although a couple of burners on he stove are "pooping out" right now. The dishwasher though, as noisy as it is, does a great job on the dishes. And I am not one of those people who washes dishes before I put them into the dishwasher either.

Disney Doll, our appliances were all brown; I don't remember the "name" for the color. I am old enough to remember when Avocado and Harvest Gold were the Brushed Steel/Chrome of their era. Believe it or not, a time will come when all of the "subzero wannabes" you see in new kitchens will be dated. :rotfl:

When I remodeled 10 years ago, I stuck with classic white. BUT, I wish I had paid more for a quieter dishwasher.

Edited to add...Bronze! It just came to me, that was the "name" of the color. :rotfl:

Hey, I just saw a fridge in Best Buy that had a TV built into the front! It was a side by side..one side had the water/ice thing and the other had the TV...I was floored! Who needs a TV in the door of the fridge????
