Your Teenager and Chores

Like pulling teeth sometimes. Well, it's not really that bad. They know if they do what they are supposed to do, they will be rewarded and they like the rewards.

I don't know, but I got into it with my 7 1/2 year old earlier because she thought there was too much in the dishwasher for her to unload. Without missing a beat, I reminded her that it was too much for me to take her to 6 Flags, to see Finding Nemo etc. I never heard another word and she finished unloading the dishwasher and folded the towels for me. Sometimes, I think they just need a little reminder of how much we as parents do for them, no matter what age.

There, off my soapbox now. (I feel better;) ):D

My DS(14) has three chores (unload & load dishwasher, take out the garbage and put his dirty clothes in the hamper). He needs to be reminded daily ! I'll ask him why he hasn't done his chores and he replies " I forgot". We pay him for watching his brother & sister while I garden and for mowing the yard. He never forgets to ask for his money  !

I am fighting with my 12DS as I type to run the sweeper. We have one afternoon a week of what I call "massive housecleaning". Everyone has their jobs to do and we all have to work together until you get your jobs done. I have tried everything from paying them to clean to charging them when they don't clean, job charts ,you name it I've tried it. So far after 15 years this really works the best because everyone works at the sametime, and if you are slacking everyone knows it. Everyone is done now except DS and he is sweeping as I type.

Well, I wish I could say I had some wonderful answer........but.......my two are getting worse.

They used to enjoy doing their bit around the place, but lately it's become 10 times worse. DS13 will only work if he gets paid on the spot & if what we offer is not enough, then nothing gets done.:(

We used to have a day (weekend) when everyone got stuck into doing what they have to do & that used to work just great, but now that homework & assignments are a part of the daily routine & require more & more time, the chores take a back seat:(

I know what you mean, homework and special projects have taken over our lives too. I can't believe my dd who is in the 1st grade has 1/2 hour to 45 mins of homework everynight. My middle ds who is in the 6 grade has had 3 extra reports plus a science project due in the last 3 weeks plus regular homework. We have had to pass on family things just to get homework and housework done(and my house isn't that clean). My ds who is in college never had this much homework when he was in school. I will be glad when school is out because I am tired of all the homework....

Oh yeah that homework & all those assignments sure do weigh the kids down.

My two have had numerous assignments to do lately, plus their normal daily homework. Seems like school rules around here:(

However, our school year is not quite half way through yet, still got 6 months to go:(
