Your suggestions for better food at DW

I keep reading complaints about the food options at DW and have made a few myself.

How about a thread with reasonable options for the CS places?

Please remember that there are limitations such as foods that are easily prepared, can be held for a period of time, cost effective as well as being able to be eaten at a nearby seat or even possibly while walking around the parks.

Extra points. of no value whatsoever like some frequent air miles, given for creativity and something different.

I will start out with my requests. Yours may vary.

Meat pies/or pasties

More of the popular food choices from the TS places that can be bought at a CS, Cobb Salad, Butternut Squash Soup, Pretzel bread etc.

I am betting you all can come up with loads of more ideas and who knows someone from Disney might read and heed.

For CS I would be happy to wait a bit longer if it meant I got HOT food and didn't have to take it back because by the time I got to my table it was so cold it was inedible (especially fries and cheeseburgers) and had to be remade. I have had to do this countless times and it always makes me mad.

I think a wider variety in the kids meals (especially in World Showcase). Smaller portions of adult meals should be available for children to try food from the countries. They wouldn't have to change anything just dish up smaller portions for a child meal.

I would also like to see more "seasonal" options. More soups and hearty meat or casserole dishes in Fall and Winter and lighter salads and sandwiches especially with fresh seasonal ingredients in Spring and Summer.

We would love to see Indian food somewhere- as CS or TS - can't see this happening without opening a new 'country' in Epcot - but maybe in DTD.

pigby, I also think we need more ethnic foods and satay (is that right) might be a good thing. It is the food on a stick?? Only problem might be people throwing the sharp sticks down but maybe they can come up with a less sharp alternative . It is a pretty cheap food to make and could be kept for awhile after making and not take much space to sell it in.

koolaidmoms, seasonal foods are an excellent idea if we do not get into too many seasons because food ordering could be very difficult. Soup in a sippie cup comes to mind as that is something that could me made in a central kitchen and shipped out to the different locations and kept hot

Definitely need better options for children. I wonder if they did not dumb down the menus cause too many folks, like myself, discovered that if they were not big eaters they could get a child's meal for much less money and get more, drink included. Maybe smaller portions of the adult meals would work?

Food being too cold to eat is something that should not happen. If it happens because you have to walk a distance to find a place to sit down that might be the problem but if you are getting it cold at the start that should be fixed. Folks need to complain, nicely, when such happens and then they will pay attention. Too many are just too nice to say much of anything and then you have folks who carry it too far and destroy their credibility in doing so.

Might we have actual food proposed rather than general suggestions? I see so many complaints but maybe some actual products/foods might be more useful?

Food is a major part of my vacations and I do not want to eat the same old stuff that I have in my real life. It used to be very good but has fallen off so much lately. Disney is capable of much better.

I actually have no problem with the CS restaurants, though I don't care for the options at the All Stars. It's the TS restaurants (not all) that seem overpriced and lacking in variety.

I would be happy with an improvement on the food they have! It's just plain horrible for the most part. What kind of meat do they use for those cs burgers anyway?? It is by far the worst quality meat I have ever seen. I've gotten better burgers from a coffee truck. I didn't know you could even buy meat that was such a bad quality. I had one the other day at Donaldasaraus that I had to force myself to eat because I paid $9 for it. And it had bacon and cheese on it. I had to load it up with everything I could find on the fixing bar just to get it down. It was about 3" high with all the fixings and it was still horrible. A 99 cent Mcdonalds burger blew it away. That meat is crap and they have to change it!!

I would just like it if they'd go back to serving the real desserts they used to have. The actual slice of cake or pie instead of the pre-package "cups" they now offer!

They need to get rid of those nasty wheat buns they're using. I don't have anything against whole grains, but the things they're currently serving burgers and cheesesteaks on are horrible and ruin the sandwich.

Better normal pizza would be a good thing. They don't need to open up a string of Via Napoli's--just serve regular pizza that doesn't have too much sauce.

JerseyJanice, I do not mind the new buns myself but since I do low carb everywhere except for Disney I might not be the best judge. It might be good to have two choices for buns with the sandwiches though. Might not be bad to have two versions of pizzas either as there are such varied tastes.

BadgerBruce, boy do I agree with you on the prepackaged desserts. It is a bad sign when I do not want to see chocolate cake. With each park and many of the resorts having a bakery of some sort they could easily ship some of the choices to the other restaurants for a bit of variety.

crzy4dsny, Disney prices have always been high but at least it was quality food and that helped some. They save a dime on items and then charge an extra dollar but I think that it is causing many to bring their own food, eat off site or avoid some of the worst places if they can. It is sort of like going to the movie theater where they grossly overcharge you and then get mad if they find you sneaking in something in your purse. They have to accept part of the blame IMO.

I am just now getting around to making plans for where we are going to eat on our next trip, swiftly coming up, and I am finding a few new items that look interesting but also finding some items that were popular gone.

Different side options for the kid's meals. Seriously? Does EVERY kid meal have to come with baby carrots, grapes or applesauce? Even changing them out for a cookie or fries got old. After a week of kid's meals, they were sick of the same choices. Now I know what dogs and cats must feel like. "Here's your same old every day dog food Fido!"

I have a sneaking suspicion, anicholson75, that they changed the children's options because many of us older and dieting people found out that we could order the children's meals for far less money and it was just enough food and they used to be pretty darned good. Not anymore and it is not right to treat the kids that way. Boo hiss!

There are many children who prefer to eat the same boring options over and over again but then there are those who do not. Maybe a Junior styled meal might be in order to satisfy both the old and the young?

I hope they get the food situation fixed soon as I am headed that way in a couple of weeks. On the bright side, it they have not I will not be as tempted to eat too much Whatever, I will be at Disney!

I love to order an Ham and Cheese Croissant from the Boulangerie Patisserie in WS. Just over $3 and good for a quick meal. Definately have it toasted so the cheese is all melty!

There is a little QS place just as you enter WS in Epcot (if you're going counter clockwise) called The Refreshment Port where you can get a Beef or Cheese Empanada. They were pretty tasty and easy to munch on while we were walking around.

Note--I have only been to Disney once, and since I spent the week high on Pixie Dust, the things I suggest may already be there, I just didn't notice.

(also, if you think the food is bad at Disney, try Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Blech.)

I believe that part of the problem is that the prices are so high and the quality so low nowadays.

I remember when the cheeseburgers were $6-7 but they were really good quality and I did not seem to mind the food so much.

Anyway, thanks for the suggestions and maybe Disney will upgrade the food or lower the costs. Lower the costs? Not likely. But one can always wish upon a star.

Will report back when I return from our upcoming trip. Have lots to do before we leave so I am really looking forward to three weeks of someone else making the beds, cooking the food, and driving me from place to place.

Since I do not eat hot dogs I cannot comment on that but everyone loves pizza, and while it is sort of like meatloaf in that everyone has a different idea of good is I do not think many could find anything good in the DW pizza. This comes from a woman who is on a low carb diet so it must really be bad.

I am trying to think positively as I leave soon and will look forward to food that I did not have to cook, even if it is less than the best but sure wish it were.

I would like to see salad bars. I could see how crowds might be a problem with this; however, I trust that Disney could figure out a creative solution (that I can't) to make it work.

I would like CS pasta options...a simple spaghetti with meatballs or chicken alfredo choice.

I would also like soups to make an appearance. Most soups get better the longer they simmer...a veggie soup, chicken noodle and maybe a rotating special soup. For example, butternut squash on Mondays, Potato soup on Tuesdays, etc.

I agree that the CS dessert options could be improved. I dislike wheat buns and am actually supposed to avoid whole wheat (I'm on a renal diet which is really weird, so I don't expect Disney to cater to me). However, I know of a lot of people who don't like wheat buns. I don't think it would be that hard to have an option of bun.

I would also like to say that I don't think this applies to Epcot. Epcot, because of the WS seems to have a pretty good variety of CS options. So I wouldn't be upset if they left it alone and just upgraded some of the other parks.

I actually really enjoy most of the food at WDW, but my FAVORITE thing that isn't there anymore is the chicken salad at tusker house when they used to be CS.....I think if it was easy to have for CS, they should be able to find a way to add it to the buffet....I mean, it was one of my favs!
